Playing the last 22mins with 14 men didnt help.

We had 10 different scorers which is a nice spread.

Hopefully Chris is ok for the next day.

As Niall said after the game - we have a lot of work to do.....

And with games against Deise & Offaly to come - that is a definite."
Don't discount the Carlow challenge coming your way on 8th March."
Dublin never take other teams for granted.

Will be treating Carlow with utmost respect as with Westmeath yesterday.

Ó Ceallacháin is very shrewd. Getting balance right so far but will inevitably hit bad day one assumes before dull team is back and panel reduced.

Shaping well so far and to win comfortably a man down and some bad shooting is reasonable day out.

Apologies. Definitely not."]It's fine. We are used to being left out of forecasts.
And I have huge time for Dublin Hurling, and would love to.see them break through to the top 5.
We are a county with the same population as Clontarf, and hurling pick is almost 100% confined to south of county. So although we may never win Leinster , our hurling team continues to fight way above its weight. Sligo.have more senior hurling clubs than we have.
Really looking forward to game in Parnell Park
But we have Laois and Antrim before then so
there will be no counting of chickens.
Also.probably the most entertaining game I saw this year was the Dublin senior hurling final.
Great stuff

Great stuff"]There is not a hell of a lot between most of the teams in our division.

Deise will come strong I suspect..... but the others are not a million miles off each other.

TBH - Dublin are in the correct division for our development.

The highs, when Davy was in charge of our Hurlers, are a distant memory unfortunately.
But hope springs eternal with Niall in charge now.

With the way our football team is heading, the new regime with the hurlers might be our only solace....

Being in second division is perfect lets be honest.

Dublin have looked well in the challenge and the two league games I've seen but even against Westies - and am not being condescending - the short game while mostly effective and efficient was broken down for a while when Westmeath got more stuck in after sending off.

That's more like the real time conditions that will be there in championship and lets face it, Cats and Limerick and Clare et al are not in habit of standing back admiring the opposition's intricate passing movements.

Scoring stats were also down compared to v Tipp in Fethard and Antrim. We will need 90% efficiency in frees and goal chances to be taken when created.

But with lots of probably first picks to come back I am reasonably happy and optimistic.

Backs by the way are excellent. That's a few games now with no goals conceded and the only problem he will have is who to drop. Conor Donhoe's move to centre half forwards might work but if not he is another choice in backs.

Conor McHugh declaring for hurlers is good news. another contender for the full back position. Was brilliant there for NF in campaign. Way better hurler who has found his niche. Had forgotten he'd been in forwards on minor hurling team that drew with Tipp before getting beaten in replayed 2012 All Ireland final. Costello, Kilkenny, McHugh ..... I could cry!!

Dont forget we lost the best years of Keaney and even Dermo was a great hurler...
Shane Ryan was another
The list goes on......

I think EOD will go back to the Hurlers next year tbh.

There's zero doubt about it

Hurling was impacted by several good hurlers committing almost their entire career with the footballers over the years.

It's a football first county, but at senior club hurling level, Dublin clubs have achieved great things on a national level over the last decade.

But then there's the example, Con played a huge part in Cualas back to back AI wins, he was described in the media as one of the most gifted hurlers in the country at that time, but when the summer came along, he was back winning AI titles for the footballers.

I watched the Sigerson Cup Final last night between DCU v UDC.

Great to see so many Dublin players involved.
8 in DCU and 9 in UCD match day squads.

The 2 Skerries lads in midfield for DCU, Greg Mc & Ethan Dunne (1-02) did very well.
Expect both to be involved with Dublin as the season progresses into Championship.

Theo for UCD played well also.

Wishing DCU the very best in the Fitzgibbon Cup Final at the weekend v UL, who are looking to, and are favourites to win it for the 3rd time in 4 years.

You have to fear for Dubs below in Tralee Saturday. Could be a tanking with Clifford back and dubs in transition. Jack O'Connor targeted this game at start of year. Had lads doing heavy training week of Donegal game.

We never like to lose to Kerry under any circumstances but saying that everyone knows where we are at now expectation wise so again its another chance for some lesser knowns to get experience under the belt of playing in big games like this. If we are on the wrong end of a sizeable result then so be it, this league now is about picking up enough points at home to stay up and anything after that is a bonus I would say. The injury list isn't looking too great but I know a couple of lads who have been out for a good while are back and rearing to go so still hopeful we can put in a decent shift.

Yep, good post!

Try to stay as competitive as they can, hopefully win as many home games.. and give game time to the lads that will become the mainstays over the next few years

We fans had our time of domination to enjoy, like many of us tried our very best to tell the whinge porn begrudgers, the time would come when Dublin weren't so good.

But.. they were too ignorant and self serving to listen to sense.

Dublin still a fine side, but the high point is over now, when you think back, the calibre of players deserved to win as much as they did, setting and owning records never seen before in the history of the game.

2023 capped it all off. With legendary status obtained by the #9 lads.

For me, it just goes to show how truly great they were, now that the whinge merchants have gone very quiet and their outlandish fear mongering nonsense has been exposed for whst it was, a load of ill conceived waffle.

Dubs were just a truly great side, and now with those truly great players calling it a day, the years of dominace is well and truly over.

Very well said Jimbo.

A lot of them clowns looking very foolish now..

Split Dublin in 4... take Dublin out of Leinster etc etc etc.... don't get me started on that nonsense....

Fear mongering begrudgers is a very good way to put it.

All us Dubs said it wouldnt last - we knew it was a generational thing.

The ignorance of others, as we predicted, would be shown for what it was.

It was amazing while it lasted - still brings a smile to me thinking about all those wonderful days on the Hill.

Mark my words - it wont be long before we are caught in Leinster also..
You heard it here first.

On the game this weekend - I am expecting the kerry lads to beat us and beat us well tbh.
They will want to lay down a marker. So be it.

They had their chance to stop the 5 in a Row and failed.
Had their chance to finish our aging team in 2023 and failed.

Let them have a league victory this weekend... lol ;o)

As you say, the transition of a new Dublin team will be interesting.
But one thing is for sure - I will still be on the Hill no matter what.

Munster SFC will be an absolute cake walk this season.

Cork should be miles better.

Yep let them enjoy a home league win if that's what it turns out to be. All Dubs will sleep well in the knowledge that they had a chance to stop the 5IAR and failed...gloriously!

I never ever thought we would be at risk of relinquishing our Leinster crown as much due to our own greatness but also the fact Kildare and Meath were constantly underachieving. I think there's probably a window there this year and maybe next year to catch us. You'd imagine this new crop will grow into things and start to win them regularly though. Ger Brennan will certainly be targeting it as an achievable objective this year though I'm sure.

I still think we will have a quality 15 on the field when needed but the biggest loss for us is the fear factor about Dublin is totally gone. Anyone coming to Croke Park in a crunch game now will fancy taking us which years ago they were nearly beaten before taking to the field. The All Blacks had it for donkeys years in rugby too. Hard to regenerate that overnight so time for us to just enjoy watching the new lads and savour the last while we have the likes of Kilkenny for.

As they say in Wedding Crashers... "Hell of a ride" we had since 2011.

Yep for sure - we wont see the likes of CK or King Con again imo.
Enjoy those 2 legends while we still can.

Would love to see CK as captain, lifting a trophy for us before he decides to call it a day, tbh.
He deserves that.
