I would disagree. Really looking forward to it. We all know the format so no winner until the league final. Play fringe players and I fancy Derry strongly. Play a full team and I would give the Dubs the nod. Also for a team like, Leitrim, for example- they will take a big crowd to Croke Park and a league final appearance will be huge for that county. For Derry it's a chance to win silverware and in the Division three final another good game that may have an effect on qualifying for Sam. I like the league finals and can't wait for next week. Last year was just an anomaly realdub. The 2 best teams in the country were just hiding out in the long grass of div 2. They've been found out now repeating their pairing in Div 1 final this year. ;-) has that ever happened before?

A good question, I doubt it!

Yeh it's true for the less successful counties but I still think a league is a league.

Big win for the Dubs today. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3962 - 24/03/2024 20:33:53 2533308 Link 0 |

Derry won't be anything at near full throttle next week. Harte knows they are a mile off Dublin and last thing he needs is,a hammering of a full strength team going into Ulster. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3073 - 24/03/2024 20:58:55 2533327 Link 0 |
Odds cut from 5/2 to 15/8. Not a fan of ante post generally but 16 weeks is not that long to wait for sure thing. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3073 - 24/03/2024 21:26:39 2533340 Link 0 |
Dublin and Kerry are joint favourites with a few bookies. Kerry 9/4 with others. Kerry will improve massively imo. They will be delighted to go in with not a lot of hype this year on the team. 11/2 Derry Anything can happen between now and then. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3962 - 24/03/2024 21:50:03 2533349 Link 0 |
I think Dessie will continue to give the new or younger lads, a run out in the league final. He defo won't be showing his full bag of tricks either. Most teams keeping their cards close to their chest so far. But compared to last season, the Dubs are in a better position than 12 months ago, both in terms of league position and squad depth. But it is only March, so a long way to go yet, and lots to improve on. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3962 - 24/03/2024 21:58:08 2533355 Link 0 |
No bookie has Kerry as joint favourites now. PP cut Dublin to 13/8 as some of us topped up the 15/8 mentioned above. . 11/8 with Boyles. Dublin 1/2 to beat Derry on Sunday is also a great bet. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3073 - 25/03/2024 14:01:18 2533575 Link 0 |
Dublin now 7/4 favourites in PP.Then Kerry at 9/4 and Derry at 11/2. CiarraiMick (Dublin) - Posts: 3842 - 25/03/2024 20:02:52 2533723 Link 0 |

Be interesting to see what teams are named. Dublin have no constraints as won't have another serious encounter until group stage. Derry be in the think of it soon, but will win Ulster relatively comfortably I think. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3073 - 30/03/2024 08:14:20 2534563 Link 0 |
Derry deserved their win today imo. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3962 - 31/03/2024 21:13:29 2534877 Link 0 |
Yes Derry were excellent. I'm not too despondent I have to say, might be exactly what we needed heading into the championship. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8672 - 31/03/2024 21:33:43 2534883 Link 1 |
Just heard Dessie's post match interview. Nail on the head. Lots of work to do and improvements required. Lethargic for long spells pretty much was my view of it also. Meath or Longford next up in a couple of weeks. This match will certainly stand to us imo. Some of the newbies in their 1st national final. Some did very well, while some of the regulars not so well. All in all, lots to assess and tweak. This result will ensure our feet are firmly on the ground in 2 weeks time. Defo won't be getting ahead of ourselves, which a win today could have caused. Think Meath will account for Longford with a bit to spare, but all eyes on that next. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3962 - 31/03/2024 21:53:37 2534892 Link 1 |
Exactly and as Dessie said:- "Obviously we're disappointed with the result & how we played for periods of that game. We knew we'd get a big examination today- and ultimately we now know where we're truly at..." A lot of people got ahead of themselves before this game. Similar to the England v Ireland rugby game in many aspects. I think this defeat could hopefully be a blessing in disguise. Time will tell and 2 weeks time will hopefully see a big improvement….
