Replying To minor93:  "Top teams so far in each grade
Senior, An Tochar followed by Rathnew?

If Tinahely play like they did in the second half against Tochair, any of the teams left in will struggle to hold them. Rathnew will need to bring their A game to beat them. . After the first half their backs were to the wall and they came out of the blocks in the second half playing like they haven't played all season.

I'll make a prediction but there are some teams I haven't seen.

Based upon what I hear and what I have seen of Tinahely over the last number of years; they are inconsistent - on their good day, they are good but they seem to play some games and their performance is distinctly average. I saw Rathnew against Dunlavin and I though their forward play was distinctly average but they won all their games except yesterday which they didn't need to win. I'll tip Rathnew as they are hard to beat in knock-out and they don't beat themselves.

Again, AGB flatter to deceive a lot of the time. I've been impressed by them based upon what I've seen this year. Baltinglass are very dependent on John McGrath. Overall I think AGB are better balance so I'll tip AGB.

I haven't either Kiltegan nor Eire Og. Kiltegan are racking up impressive scorelines, for example 1-18 against Baltinglass is a good number of scores. Eire Og won the league recently and have potential. I'll tip Kiltegan due to their scoring power and experience.

An Tóchar have been impressive, not just this year but in recent years. They are gaining experience all the time plus a number of their good young players have played at intercounty level. Dunlavin have had a good season despite a poor performance against AGB. I just don't think Dunlavin have enough firepower up front to get the scores required. I'll tip An Tóchar.

Intermediate Qfs
Ballymanus v Hollywood
Coolkenno v Annacurra
Avondale v Balinacor
Carnew v Newtown.

Who do we think looks likely to pregress - betting man id go Hollywood, Coolkenno, Avondale and Carnew?

Anyone able to catch much of the intermediate matches - any player bar brosnan looking sharp? Also good to see Conor Byrne back for Avondale.

Minor championships are heating up any thoughts on the favourites for the A and B championships, Arklow look strong in the A and Kilcoole and Rathnew look to be ahead of the pack in the B.

I've seen most of the teams in the A and some in the B. In the A Arklow are the standout team but in the B, keep an eye on St Pats.

My thoughts at the start was the 4 best teams in it were Avondale, annacurra , carnew and Hollywood. All 4 can make semi final. Avondale are stand out at the moment but in knock out football anything can happen. Dark horses Hollywood

I think AGB will walk this. B shouldn't get a mention, it's a battle for 9th in reality or teams hiding there to get a cup at end of year. If yer good enough step up to A.

My thoughts exactly. I find it hard to fathom how Rathnew and Pats are in the B - or why a strong club like Tinahely feel it necessary to be in a group team. Surely you are better to give your weaker players a chance to improve ? Several of the teams in the A are playing with up to half their team eligible again in 25 - and are performing well.

I think Agb will beat Baltinglass especially when you see the teams that Baltinglass beat and where they ended up on the table.. Maybe Agb cold turn out to be the dark horses of the championship . Maybe they are beginning to peak at the right time Some would argue that they peaked too early In previous years and lacked maturity. However every passing year without success makes it more difficult. I still think they will have too many scoring options while Baltinglass still rely too heavily on McGrath.
An Tochar will have too much firepower for Dunla vin but yet they looked very ordinary against Tinahely. Dunlavin know they will have to relentessly attack and harry them but it will probably prove too much against the pacey Roundwood players over a full hour.
The two other games are difficult to call. EireOg looked impressive against Rathnew and refused to buckle even when the Village applied the pressure. The result must give them confidence and they have a fair sprinking of stand out players ..If they can contain Seanie Rory and Paudge they will win. I can see this en ding as a draw and if it does Kiltegans maturity to sneak it in extra time.
Tinahely will have play for 60 minutes like they di in the second half against an Tochar. That is hard to see as their form has been too inconsistent for such a performance plus they will not get the open space that an Tochar gave them. They tend to play through the lines and that will suit Rathnew as they are very good at closing down space. I can see Tinahely losing a player to a red card as they become frustrated with Rathnews tight and physical marking. If they are to have a real chance they will need to be very disciplined and not get distracted from the game. Rathnew to bring all their experience and winning mentality to forge a win in a low scoring game. These are just my thoughts.

Personally i feel the same towards AGB.. beating the likes Of Bray, Dunlavin and Barndarrig who were all least favorites to do anything this year. While Baltinglass have beat the last two county champs and last years semi finalist. Looking forward to see how this fares out. Dunlavin have had a few good wins this year too. Can see Kiltegan having too much around middle for eire og.. Rathnew tinahely being last years semi is interesting and hard to call. Ill go Tinahely being the shock.

Rathnew v Tinahely

History would say you'd be a fool to bet against Rathnew when it comes to knock out stage. They find another 10-15% from somewhere when it gets to this time of year. Tinahely really up & down , played unbelievable first half against Rathnew last year and then never came out for the second half. Will have to find that form again and maintain it for the full hour.

Verdict- Rathnew by 2/3

AGB v Baltinglass

Arklow are the great enigma of Wicklow football at the moment, Could come out, win at a canter and look like world beaters or could be beaten by 10 points , you really don't know what way it could go until you see what version of them turns up. You would think that it needs to happen soon for Arklow though, and if it does it could be a significant milestone for Wicklow football with one of the non-traditional, big towns finally making the breakthrough.

Baltinglass have the history & pedigree here but are a shadow of their former selves. McGrath could get them across the line though.

Verdict - Baltinglass (maybe AET)

Kiltegan v Éire Óg

Greystones are much like Arklow, have the potential to do great things when they are on it, but hard to know what you'll get from one day to the next.

Kiltegan racking up big scores last few games and seem to be getting the "rising tide lifts all boats" effect with their hurlers going well too

Verdict - Kiltegan by 2/3

An Tóchar v Dunlavin

Dunlavin will work hard and make it difficult but you'd have to think An Tocher will eventually find a way around this and will have too much firepower

Verdict - An Tochar by 5/6

Tinahely v Rathnew. Nothing between these two teams . They know each other inside out. Very hard to predict. Tinahely on penalties.

Baltinglass v AGB. All depends which AGB turns up. A narrow Baltinglass win or AGB to win by 5 plus. I'll go AGB by 5 plus.

Eire Og v Kiltegan. Eire Og might be too cute for Kiltegan tactically . However Kiltegan will fancy their chances although Eire Og will set up defensively as they always do. If Seanie is quiet then it's Eire Ogs day.

An Tochar v Dunlavin. I think this will be a lot closer than people think. Don't be surprised if it goes to extra time. If it does then it's anyone's game. An Tochar by 2/3.

Anywhere, outside of the Wicklow People later in the week, that you'd find either a football or hurling championship table?
