Replying To Sligonian:  "Interesting, it sounds like you were at the match. The bully boys will be scratching their heads as to how I can be in 2 places at once 6000km apart.

Its a fair point on the subs coming in earlier. One of the biggest surprises was Mark Walsh not being introduced. Although he hasn't really been used all year but they usually get him in this time of year.

If we are honest and ruthless with ourselves we do need some 3 or 4 upgrades throughout the team to win a Connacht title. It will be interesting to see if any chances will be given to underage players. I didn't see Cummins as a big loss that others do because imo he was never a good tracker defensively with his pace but he is loss going forward. Not sure those cancel each other out. Carrabine was the big loss.

It wasn't really pitches or conditions that held us back early season, it was our ability to defend extra man and score ratio was way below our norms. We won't have the rule changes next year and our forwards should be stronger with L Marren and hopefully Carrabine coming back. Players need to a step forward in the off season. Hopefully the lessons are learned all round.

I really liked the look of Oisin Flynn the Castleconnor lad yesterday. Hopefully management give him more minutes. I still feel Management are too conservative with introducing new talent. Daire O Boyle not making the squad, not sure why. No gametime all year. Many of the u20 lads not in the squad.

Murphy who was outstanding yesterday, not just in his scores but his leadership, is not getting younger, he is 33 or 34. He has only 2 or 3 years left to win a Connacht medal you'd imagine."
Your back talking to yourself again. Any one that was watching the game on T.V could see the crowd was small and it's not hard to get the official attendance. Your a sad case.

You have 105 posts to your name - is there any of them on Sligo GAA related activity? Are you just on here to criticise contributors who have an opinion on Sligo GAA.

Good question. I have loads of posts about gaa in Sligo. Everyone is free to post but I take exception to any poster using multiple accounts to try and discredit the manager and players. If you didn't know any different and you starting reading posts on this forum you would think that a lot of posters and supporters are extremely unhappy with our manager which is completely untrue. He constantly get fixated on individuals. Keaney,Currid, he even mentioned that Reilly was poorly treated last year when he opted out of the panel. Reilly had been injured and struggled to get back to fitness and went off himself, got his form back and is back playing again. No agenda whatsoever. At the moment he's turned his attention to Cummins who he described as no major loss last weekend and the week previous said he was the managers favourite and he would be playing if he only had one leg . He doesn't attend games so it's all pure waffle from him. So rather than think I am critical of this multiple account holder, could you view my contribution as standing up for the team and manager that take the field. There are some excellent posters on this forum including yourself, they all have one account only !!!!

Best wishes to the U.20 team this evening. It's a beautiful day for a game so hopefully we will get a good game of football with a win for us. I think Galway will beat the Rossies in the other game. I see that our Co chairman has stood down. It's a huge workload for any individual.

Leitrim 2-22 Sligo 5-17 U-20 match, it was a wildly entertaining and quite extroadinary match.

The first attack Sligo ran at Leitrim and had a great goal chance cleared off the line then Leitrim blitzed us to go 2-8 to 0-6 ahead after 20mins. Tbh we were hanging on at times as Leitrims forwards were well on top and weren't getting enough possession at midfield. What happened next, from the 22min to 25 min we scored 2-3 without reply to go a point up and finished off the half 2-12 to 2-9 ahead. 2nd half was a million miles an hour again and we did pull away 9pts clear but Leitrim never gave up and pulled it back to 4pts. I was never comfortable but our lads were ruthless when needed. You would be concerned on the defensive side for both teams but we showed great character to comeback and stay ahead.

What I loved about today was others stepped up and we kept the belief, Sheridan at midfield was very good at times, as were conor flynn, Lynch, O Mahony, Callaghan all the players on the wings were strong. Niland showed his class in moments and always gets the big score at important times. Eli showed well when came on and Tommy Ross looked in a different league to everyone. Leitrim could not handle his pace through the middle, once he broke that first line of defence it was goal on even 50 yards out. Young Lyons no4 had a great game too and I wish him a speedy recovery in what looked a bad enough injury.

With Galway drawing with Roscommon it means we are guaranteed a semi final against Roscommon at least. If we beat Mayo we go straight through to final. Congrats to the Players and Management. Absolute pleasure to watch.

Slight correct, Roscommon u20 have to beat or draw with Leitrim to make the semi final and eliminate Galway.

Was talking to some Leitrim people this week and they rate this U20 team highly with many of them are starting for senior team which is not something they are not happy about but that's a different story. Beating them was no gimmy,

That game was a mixture between an U.10 blitz and a cumann na mbunscoil game . It was crazy stuff but in the end we have qualified for the semi final at a minimum. After the first game I didn't think we had a prayer of reaching the knock out stages so I was definitely wrong. Then our good neighbours the Rossies put Galway out of the equation. Galway winning the All Ireland with this group of players and now won't qualify for the knock out stages is a stark reminder of how difficult it is to bring players through the different age groups. If this happened in Sligo we would all be saying this would never happen in a strong Gaa county. Well done to the team and mgt

On the U20s I saw many good things even in the loss to Roscommon but totally different team now. We have 2 chances to make the Connacht final. I know some people will criticise the score conceded, like some of feedback back home was how can you hold Galway to 2-8 and Leitrim had that scored by 20 mins, its a fair enough point. Leitrim forwards are very good, Jack Kelly is an outstanding prospect for them as is Honeyman. And I honestly think Sligo went into to win it without much tactics in a shootout and trusted our guys. Its good to be able to win both ways imo.

On to the Minors today against Mayo in Castlebar. If we can bring in the intensity of the last 15mins the last day we will be very competitive and the team named reflects how we finished so fair play to management. Hopefully the lads that came on can back it up. I can see us winning our last 2 games. All the best.

For anyone who didn't see this. Interesting groups in the Sligo Club Championship. The senior looks very similar to last year.

Coolera will be Favorites again.

Intermediate

Calry, Geevagh, Farnans, Enniscrone, St Pats

I have to take back my optimism for the minors, one of the worst halves of football I have ever seen. Mayo 3-9 Sligo 0-5 at HT. Mayo are not impressive which tells you all you need to know. Feeney, Lang and Donoughue carrying the fight, fair play to them. Very disappointing after such a strong finish the last day. Nowhere near the same work ethic or intensity being shown today.

Having a pop at U17s is not a good look.

Are you surprised at that comment. Mark Park is now closed until mid 2026. I wonder where will our county final be played, Connacht club games and next years league games

Got any official link to that? Our county hurlers are down to play Sligo in Markievicz Park this Saturday.

I believe it will be after the intercounty season finishes. What a waste of money the previous development turned out to be. Nobody seems to be batting an eyelid.

Sorry, the hurling is going ahead as is the U.20 on Wednesday. When these few games are played it's going to be shut down. Maybe if the contractor is busy and can't get here for a few weeks you might see a Tailteann game but highly unlikely

I assume it will be a different person overseeing the job this time?

There will be a specialist consultant overseeing the new pitch so should get it right this time as everyone reports to them.

When has there ever been accountability in Sligo GAA so I wouldn't expect anything different to batting an eyelid. Where are the clubs in response to this. How much money was wasted. The Sligo CB should release a statement on the revised plan and how long it will take. What money will be used to redo the pitch? I think as someone who pays into ClubSligo we deserve some idea of how its funded and the plan.

In my opinion and as much as I love our record in Markievicz it should be closed already as I worry about a serious injury caused by the surface.

I know the u20s are guaranteed a semi final but last few years that been a neutral venue but the final if we get to it maybe at home and they could be waiting on this.

Does anyone know what actually happened? Who was in charge? I don't think I have ever heard this happening in a club pitch or has anyone else? So many stories going around on what happened but in fairness, its embarrassing as a county.
Was the park not closed before when the county final was played in Enniscrone?
I have said for a number of years, Marc Park it should be sold and we build a new ground. Terrace and fences are ok but the rest is so outdated. Stand is poor that not many people sit in it for games, unless heavy rain.
If not at the very least, we need to get someone on the park committee that knows what they are doing.
