Players in the 90's didnt need to be able to hit long range scores because they didn't have to kick over a blanket defence. The forwards stayed in their position inside and played as attackers. Teams nowadays are taking goalkeepers up to kick long range kicks from the ground.

Which St Eunans team will turn up for the final I wonder. Will it be the team that turned on the style against Naomh Conaill in the earlier group game and in the 1st half of the quarter final against the same opposition. Or will it be the team that stuttered for long periods against poor teams like Downings and Ardara and only scraped by against Gweedore. The ball seems to be firmly in their court, if they come out of the blocks hard it will be a long day for Dungloe. If they try and control it they will probably still win but in a more edgy nervy contest. Naomh Conaill blew Gweedore away in last years final because they knew they could. St Eunans might come into this with a mindset of really taking the game on in an attacking sense, but that doesn't mean they will blow Dungloe away if they take that approach. They won't know if they can till they're in the middle of it. St Eunans have terrific quality but Dungloe are very difficult to build any rhythm against. The biggest asset Dungloe have is that they are evolving all the time and realising they can find new levels of performance with every win. Young team but very physical and stubborn opponent. The bench for Eunans is superior which could swing it.

Yep. A spectacular PR own goal. No wild chat about our county final. Hard seeing anything but a Eunans win. Will Dungloe make it a tight game? I heard Danny O'Donnell on the podcast suggesting they should go out and have a cut at it. But if they push up on Eunans, Patton could kill them with his kickouts and they'd be accused of being naive. But if they stick 14 men behind the ball they'll be accused of puke tactics. I must admit that when I read about this first I was a little disappointed. I think it's probably a little bit of an insult to the parents and partners of the players if they weren't invited. But in reality, how many supporters would be at these functions? There'd probably be a couple of County Board delegates per club, probably paid for by the Club Members. But you would have to wonder what was the thinking behind this? Was it a County Executive decision, or a management decision. Dungloe will play there normal game. No way will they leave themselves exposed. Fair play to them brilliant to see a club who haven't been in a final for 60 years there.. looking forward to it , weather not looking good so you never know.

Yeah the psychology of it is interesting. Say it is a bad day weather wise & the game turns into a low scoring affair, teams level with about 5 minutes to go. Suddenly Eunans thinking, jeez we're favourites here, we simply can't lose another final, nerves kick in. Whereas Dungloe can just think, right let's give them hell in the last few minutes & try to win this thing noone gave us a hope of winning. Some clubs had players winning medals for the first time in a long time. I think it was a mistake. I also think it wouldn't have happened this way without Jim's approval, which begs the question, what could they possible get out of it? Of course some supporters would attend I've been to a few . And what about players family should they not be there and of course our sponsors. . Bad decision simple as.
