But is it? Carrick have one pitch (I don't know if the one on park lane is still in use... it was always flooded from my memory). Mohill as well as far as I know. Mohill only built a proper building in recent years which I'd expect didn't come cheap with money still owed possibly (happy to be corrected on that). Carrick's facilities arent great for a club of their size lets be honest. I'm 100% sure both clubs would love a another pitch given the playing population. No one is forcing anyone to buy tickets to any draw. Fair play to both clubs, investing in their community and the future of the clubs. More clubs should take note. And truth be told, Carrick Rugby will get better facilities in the near future so GAA clubs in the region have to keep ahead with investment or be left behind.

Not sure what rugby games you are watching if you think most as 6'5" and weighing around 25st

I reckon it's safe to say that a lot of the people that bought tickets couldn't give two hoots about either club or whether it would help them progress. I say fair play to both clubs for having the initiative and taking the risk that it would work out. The location of the winner suggests that they had a very successful marketing campaign. Obviously people had a choice whether to buy a ticket or not. Outside of wealthy benefactors or grants clubs are dependent on fundraising and I'm sure clubs would assume that people would be broadminded and intelligent enough to set aside petty rivalries to buy a ticket. If the winner was passionate enough about their own club they could always make a sizeable donation to them. Bitterness and begrudgery aren't going to solve the problems of clubs. I'd say every club in the county is investing in their future with facilities, hopefully none of them overstretch on it and stay within their means for what is absolutely needed.

I don't think you'll need to worry about it... complaining for complaining sake.

Not complaining, discussing. Which one does on a forum. I just don't want clubs going to the wall because they want to keep up with the Jones's boxtyburgerbuns (Leitrim) - Posts: 94 - 16/01/2025 15:08:56 2586098 Link 0 |

Ah you're not really 'discussing'... more moaning / complaining... we'll agree to disagree... Anyhow no GAA club ever goes to the 'wall'... Croke Park always end up taking over the debt if things get sticky.... and before you go 'Well what about Parnells?" The Parnells club is still active... the Limited company they used to run the club and that held the lease to the grounds / premises is gone. Wait until you see, a new lease will be agreed & Parnells will be back playing on the pitches they gave back to the Marist order. You're proving my point there using them as an example not to be used as an example.

I'm not ... you really don't understand what happened at Parnells. You can't 'vest' a Ltd company in the GAA.

No need to be getting so het up about this or indeed to be talking down to wan. Good governance of clubs is vital for the future of the gaa and its continued health, surely that isn't hard to understand. boxtyburgerbuns (Leitrim) - Posts: 94 - 17/01/2025 11:28:35 2586180 Link 0 |
Indeed... anyhow I'd also love to hear a bit of news as well as this game is a must win if we've any hope of staying in Div 3.
