Replying To southleitrim_mafia:  "Apparently the both clubs received half million euro profit. Each. I do think it's madness that any club requires this much money. But fair play to them on a great fundraiser.

Apparently Gortletteragh raised €120k profit with their quid games fundraiser. It will be interesting to see if the cb could match this. For some reason I highly doubt that. Unfortunately."
How many tickets was sold to make that profit?. I'm guessing the profit is after taking out the cost of the house and advertising done on the draw.

Congratulations to the two clubs if that is the outcome

It is not madness at all as they both have big capital projects.

Unless clubs have good facilities and coaching they will not attract young players. Both soccer and rugby are now enticing alternatives for these youngsters.

They would need to have sold circa 14 thousand tickets for that level of profit. I find that hard to believe. Co Boards from small counties will never get the same buy in as clubs want to fundraise just for themselves

I'm just of the opinion that a lot of money goes to waste on these projects. How many clubs now have astro turf pitches, state of the art gyms etc. I'd be behind the GAA building maybe another 2 or 3 centre of excellence type projects in bigger towns in the county.

These facilities could be shared amongst the clubs in the area. Instead we have clubs raising and spending massive amounts of money on their own projects. I don't have a problem with any of the individual clubs more so the mindset of the GAA as a whole.

Whatever about Carrick I don't think rugby will win the hearts and minds of young folk in Mohill or Gortletteragh.

Plenty of lads from all over Leitrim and Roscommon playing with Carrick rugby. They're not just from the Carrick area.

May be so but I doubt you'll see a rugby club in either parish I mentioned...ever

correct, young lads from Drumreilly, Aughawillan and Aughnasheelin all involved in Carrick rugby, so it is a realistic alternative,

That would be 7 thousand tickets for each club. Not beyond the bounds of possibility when you consider draws that I know about locally that give away c10k in prizes would sell between 1-2k. You only have to look at how many tickets are sold on the likes of Oooosh etc for certain draws. I'd well believe they sold 10k+.

Probably not but those parishes need them to play GAA. Isn't that the whole point.

There obviously isn't the population or tradition of rugby to have more than one team in the county, it's great to have the avenues of other sports as not everyone will be a Gaelic footballer and a lot of talented youngsters are lost to sport one they leave school as they only had GAA growing up and lost the grá or weren't willing/able to meet the ridiculous commitment levels

It is, but the point also is if you have a good football pitch with reasonable dressing rooms isn't that is all that is needed. Lob in a community centre with a gym in situ and sure you're flying it. Expecting players to go round the region fundraising isn't a great use of people's spare time. There's no need for half the facilities clubs are looking for.

People from other parishes and even other counties shouldn't be expected to fund clubs that already have the best resources in the county imo, but if they're willing to do it good on them. I wouldn't be contributing to seeing a rival club head out of sight while my own fades.

Oh for sure, let them at it.

Playing in a district soccer league is probably more enjoyable than the demands of gaa anyway one might imagine
