My only fear is that if he does decide to move up, he won't be replaced by someone as capable. Time for a few younger souls to step up and particularly from the larger clubs in the county. True. 1995 was the year that got away. I've never been as disappointed before or since that first round loss to Galway. That team had improved a fair bit since the previous year. Donal Casey is also a long term injury but should be back at some point in 2025 The reality is in a weaker county every manager knows this could be the case it is par for the course. Whats more is that Wrynn who has been an immense servant to Leitrim football was naturally going to become a squad player, Barry McNulty looks like he can replace Pearce Dolan at Midfield and the likes of Ben Guckian, Darren Cox etc. are coming to the fore and can come in for Plunkett. Radek Oberwan and Jack Foley etc. will be well able to fill in for Gilheaney. Hopefully Cillian McGloin will be back and Jack Heslin may also be back if he can recover from a tough injury. We easily have some of the best forward options in Division Four (even more so if the new rules are introduced) but there is no doubt we are short at the back. For this reason I wouldn't rule the likes of Poacher out - he is a brilliant coach and theres no doubt he would put a emphasise on defending which we will need and Ryan Jones also knows the lay of the land with Leitrim Football - Theres also rumours that his brother may transfer to Leitrim Gales/Leitrim. I think Dec Bonnar along with a top class coaching team is the way to go. Whoever it is needs to keep Barry McWeeney involved and be able to commit for the next 3 years minimum. And wasn't he involved with Carlow when they got promoted to Div 3? I don't ever think we should be looking too far away from home as any manager will have to put more hours into Leitrim than most other counties (given a tightly resourced backroom team etc). But the job should have been put up for application though. Then we could see who else was available and see really how interested Graham was. There were other quality managers available at the time such as Mike Solan, Mikey Harte, James Horan etc. Now none of these may have even applied but we should've had all options on the table before rowing in behind Mickey Graham. What was your thoughts on MG jumping ship to Galway so soon after taking the job? You were calling for Moran to be sacked all year and that Mikey Graham was our man. I don't think we know the full facts of MG jumping ship but the optics do not look great unfortunately from his and Galway standpoint. Reading above a lot of capable candidates in the mix now to take over in Leitrim, so that is a positive at least. Hopefully ye get something wrapped up very soon and start planning for Div3. ahsure. I think the fact that he was in charge and lift has massively reduced the pool of capable applicants. Any quality manager wouldn't want to go near us now.
