The players should know tonight who is playing against kerry next saturday ..play against a B team and put a play in place on how they are going to play , I do not like the way davy names one team 3 days before a match . gives the players the real team a day before the match as this might upset players who are dropped . i also think its an ideal game to try out 4 or 5 players who did, nt play against galway . i know the players have put in a huge commitment and wish them good luck for the rest of the season. diehardrossie (Roscommon) - Posts: 6 - 13/05/2025 13:11:09 2609198 Link 0 |
As there is a two week gap between the Kerry, Meath and Cork matches I think that you have to put your best team out, go full blast and see how they get on. The management team have lots of scientific stats to go on from matches and can also see how the players are going in training. Likely that 20 players will get a run-out next Saturday as the temperature is expected to hit 75/24 with limited wind. I think that the fitness & standard of several county teams has gone up a bit this year. We are really up against it this weekend (Kerry 1/12) but no doubt a few die-hards will make the long journey to support the team and hopefully have a good weekend as well. I would hope (and expect) that the team performance improves substantially from the Galway game. I would settle for that. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 736 - 13/05/2025 14:10:52 2609228 Link 0 |
Providing they are fit I think Doyle, Ruane and Hand should start this time. Any injury news? Conditions are going to be very warm so it'll be taxing on the teams. After watching the games since we've lost to Galway, we are not near dynamic enough between the half back and half forward lines compared with other teams and it's not just Division 1 teams, its Louth, Meath and Monaghan as well. I really hope there's a kick from this team.

I would agree with that. Kerry scoring plenty of goals under these new rules so Roscommon need to be careful that it isn't all over by half time. If we were able to get our act together it's actually a good time to play them. They've cruised through a Munster final again and there is no jeopardy in losing your first game. Monaghan were poor last year so didn't really test them but Mayo caught them out the year before. You need to harry them and don't let them settle on the ball.

They had Monaghan beaten before half time and a big reason for that was lessons learnt from their round 1 game the previous year when very sluggish and got caught on the hop by Mayo. Strong possibility Cork,Meath and Roscommon will finish on 2 points and 2nd,3rd and 4th decided on scoring difference so important Roscommon keep the margin of defeat down as low as possible this Saturday. "there is no jeopardy in losing your first game" Kerry along with other All-Ireland contenders will be aiming to top their group and avoid the three games in consecutive weeks which you'll have if were to finish 2nd or 3rd in the group and reach the last 8. Not looking forward to this game Saturday but in a way we have nothing to lose. Nobody is expecting much from us and Kerry have been caught on the hop before in Round 1 games. I think our midfielders and wing forwards need to be so disciplined in keeping our shape (as much as we can) against this Kerry side. If Davy goes in with the idea we can go score for score with Kerry, it could be a very long afternoon. It could be a game made for wing forwards with pace like Conor Hand who break hard when we turn over the ball (similar to the way Donegal and Armagh play) . I think everyone is feeling the same about Saturday. I haven't heard a word from the Roscommon camp since the Galway game. I just hope our lads put in a big performance with massive intensity in defense and attack. I'm also hoping the last 5 weeks have given enda Smith a bit of breathing space to get back to his best because if he's not id question starting him Saturday. I think he's carrying a knock most of the year. Hopefully Daire cregg is back and can play to the high abilities we all know he has. On our defense it's hard to know what we will do. Stack should be back to his best now hopefully and I'd have him on David Clifford while id try Conor hand on paudie which could be a gamble but he will run with him all day and give paudie plenty to think about the other end. Im hoping for a big performance Saturday but I'm fearing the worst.

What would ya make of Neary on Paudi? Seemed to one of the few Ros lads that consistently gets contact on players in games, he's a physical lad and has a bit of an engine. Would be a big ask for either player given their limited experience but we have limited options. I like the idea of Hand making him work the other end of the field. Whether he's on Paudi or not l think Conor Hand needs to start. Hopefully Daire is fit and can get back into form. I really hope for the team and Enda that he can get his form back. If that means trying something different, even introducing him off the bench or something just so he can get the spark back. I think expecting the worst and hoping for the best sums up Ros supporters at the moment. I'd be delighted with a good performance regardless of result. There's been savage ciúnas from the camp alright. Let's hope it's down to hard work preparing for the AI race and that it will pay dividends! Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2302 - 15/05/2025 11:54:15 2609793 Link 0 |
As there is a fair chance that Kerry will press our kickouts I would not be one bit surprised to see Eddie Nolan, Keith Doyle and Shane Cunnane to all start holding back Untan Harney to come on as an impact sub. As midfield is now basically 50/50 (50%) our midfielders have punched too many balls recently which brings the odds down to 25% unless it is a very accurate punch/tap. Hopefully the team have been working hard on trying to win more possession at midfield and to win breaking ball. Kerry are excellent also at using fast 30/40 meter kick passes into space and I would like to see us doing the same into Ben, Daire, Diarmuid etc. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 736 - 15/05/2025 15:08:24 2609844 Link 0 |
Ya I think Neary is a great shout to. Like you said he's a no nonsense defender and would be a gamble to but I think he would be up to the task. Not to many heading down Saturday.

I think the three men you mention all need to start and to have Dylan Ruane in around there as well. Could Ronan Daly be a good man as well to go after the dirty ball?

Is the team for Saturday being named tonight. endgame (Roscommon) - Posts: 2408 - 15/05/2025 20:40:36 2609905 Link 0 |
Much changed from the Galway match last month. Some injuries and other have fallen out of favour. Hopefully we can be as competitive as possible on Saturday. Best of luck to Roscommon and safe travelling to those who make the long trip. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4044 - 15/05/2025 21:42:02 2609910 Link 1 |
Best of luck to the lads on Saturday. I see the team is named. I'd imagine there'll be changes to the starting 15. Seems strange to have James Fitzpatrick and Declan Kenny in the squad when I don't remember either player getting on the squad never mind game time during the league. I wonder is Diarmuid injured too? Be great to be able to bring Diarmuid, Neary and a few others on if we are still in the game with 20 -25 mins to go but it'd be a risky gamble to not start them, especially Diarmuid. Well I am shocked they made that many changes. Do we know who's injured? Interesting 15 if they stick with that selection. You would think if he doesn't have a knock Diarmuid would start. Maybe John Mc would be a good man to pick up David Clifford and let Stack have a crack at Paudi, might give Stack a chance to get forward as well. No harm for a bit of a shake up.

Just seen the Kerry panel, no Paudi Clifford not sure why. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 99 - 15/05/2025 22:44:30 2609922 Link 0 |
Roscommon were so bad against Galway on Easter Sunday that there had to be major changes. It smacks though of a Manager who doesn't know his best 15 and is searching around for the right formula. Kerry will beat everyone in the group alright. Apart from that, a young Meath team is improving and Ros v Meath in The Hyde will be the pivotal fixture to decide if we can go directly in to a quarter final. We hammered Cork by the Lee in the League and should beat them again but it'll be a lot closer.
