Definitely agree on the conditioning and depth. And look at the return Galway have had from All Ireland u20/u21 winning sides, a huge chunk of their panel have won at that grade.

An interesting thing as well on mentality. I heard Jimmy McGuinness say before that a lot of the winning mentality comes from the team knowing they are the fittest and have the most effective tactics. If you think you don't have it in the legs as players that will affect your belief in being able to win games which makes sense. Can Roscommon reach that level in terms of conditioning? Very interesting listening to his interview with Tomas O Se on his podcast.

He is a legend and a gentleman. Hope ye can do the business for the west now. It can only be good for Connacht football if ye win and it's a shame Mayo never got one in recent times. Look at the benefit it gives Ulster in driving on rival counties to out do their neighbours. I think if Mayo had won one of those All Irelands it would have brought on Galway sooner. It's been one of the downfall of Connacht of the Connacht teams.

McGuinness after the game said Donegal was out of gas for the final quarter, tired minds and bodies takes the wrong options, makes more errors and take on the shot selection and normally easy scores (Gallen free late on for example) are suddenly missed.

Dessie Farrell also said simliar about them fading late on against Galway that's even more remarkable when you consider it was Dublin rested and Galway playing their 3rd match in 14 days days but Galway was greatly helped by getting huge impact off the bench and while Shane Walsh played injured he still produced 0-7.

Armagh on Saturday ran the legs off Kerry, they fell over the line to bring it to extra time but it was clear the fitter team with better bench options was Armagh.

With the league finals over the focus now shifts to the business end of the season - Championship!

Do we see anyone get near Brigids this year? They look ominous going by their league form. 3 of the next 4 in the odds are in the same group - Pearses, Boyle and Clann. I have a sneaky feeling about Clann this year and think they may be the ones to put it up to their neighbours the most.

Won't go into any detail on here but too much internal nonsense with Clann to expect them to mount a challenge.

Zero value on Brigids with those odds. Good value on Pearses who lets not forget won a few county titles and a Connacht title recently and Boyle lost the last two finals by 1 point and should be there or thereabouts again.

Eire OG and Strokestown look like two main contenders for the intermediate title. In Junior Aidans need to bounce straight back or could find themselves stuck at the level for a while much like Barrys have done.

Any issues were at board level and shouldn't effect the players too much.

I wouldn't underestimate Clan but going off the league, they were hit and miss. Lennon and Gavin to come back in is big for them but hard to see past Brigits.

Pearses and Boyle will look to be in the mix. Roscommon Gaels and Oran flattered to deceive the last few years - could be the year they really kick on and challenge but are still a good bit off Brigits.

St. Faithleachs and Glaveys on their day are good sides and can be hard beaten. It would be nice to see some upsets in the Championship - Brigits have a straight forward group but could come up against a Boyle/Clan/Oran in a quarter final that might give them a decent game.

Any issues were at board level and shouldn't effect the players too much."]We'll see. As with the a lot of teams club or county you need all pulling in the same direction. One omen for Clann however is the last time St Brigids won in the Div one title and they beat Roscommon Gaels in the final the County championship was won by Clann beating Pearses in the final, stranger things has happened.

On another note this weekend was to be official start of the club championship with North Roscommon playing Mid-South Roscommon this Sunday afternoon in Enfield. It's off now due to South Roscommon made up of five clubs unable to field a team. North Roscommon will now go on to play one of the 3rd placed teams in the knock out stages of the senior championship.

Martin Breheny in today's Independent ranks Roscommon 9th best team in the country. We got to a quarter final but as he says, Roscommon won only 3 out of 13 League and championship games. A poor season by any measure. Best of luck to Galway in the All Ireland Final. When the game was there to be won on Sunday against a game Donegal team, Galway stood up and did the business. They have a great chance now of winning Connacht's first senior All Ireland in 23 years. Wouldn't begrudge Armagh either if it's their day but Galway's experience from losing the Final two years ago might just get them across the line

Martin Breheny great for his lists though he normally waits for the season to end before publishing them. What puts Tyrone 8th I'd wonder as they only avoided league relegation because they were lucky not to play a full strength Roscommon,Mayo. In the championship needed extra time to beat Cavan and made their exit before the last 8 at home to Roscommon. Louth reaching the last 8 should be a lot higher on his list also.

Most wouldn't begrudge Armagh and it would be something else for them to win it when you consider their supporters haven't seen their county win Ulster title since 2008 and now one win away from winning the All Ireland

Breheny loves his lists.
He'll have 5 months of it after the County season ends. No danger he'd visit Counties and report on Club scenes or give weekly updates/summaries on the Club Championships.
My list...
1 AI winner
2 AI loser
3 Kerry
4 Donegal
5 Dublin
6 Derry
7 Ros
8 Rhubarbs
9 Tyrone
10 Monaghan
11 Louth
Doesn't matter after that.

How are we ahead of Mayo when they beat us three times this year, once in the League and twice in the championship.

We were Quarter Finalists, they exited last 12.
What happened in preliminaries/warm ups doesn't count.

Mind you it still isn't nice losing to them in anything.

It was great to be back in a QF but it doesn't sit well with me that we won about 3 games out of 13 all year and lost four championship games. There is very little form or momentum in that. I know we got a stage further than Mayo but can we really say we are ranked above them given that record plus our 3 defeats to them

Can't argue with being ranked 9th in the country. It's probably around where I would put us this year. With everyone available and fit we can push on. Few players heading to Australia this week for trials but not heard daire Cregg mentioned or any update on him. Hopefully Galway get over the line. This all Ireland was definitely there for anyone to take.
