Yes teaching in Jarlaths but not living in Tuam, as far as I know I might be wrong but if im right, he passes a few clubs on the way to Tuam from where he lives, but I suppose the opportunity to play senior is more appealing, but in my opinion no where as bad as Moycullen or Salthill when it comes to transfer's

No idea where he lives, but I do know if you transfer to a Galway club from outside the county you don't have to be living in the catchment area of that club. You just need to be living in the county. galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1327 - 20/08/2025 14:36:08 2632849 Link 0 |
Agreed re Salthill and Moycullen and havent a clue where he lives tbh. Is it a Junior or Intermediate club?

I believe Grugan lives in a hurling area. So, to be fair, he's entitled to pick what club he plays for. Tuam is where he has links with so it makes sense for him to play for them. gaillimhboy (Galway) - Posts: 385 - 20/08/2025 19:11:00 2632875 Link 0 |
Please explain? Is Salthill or Moycullen not a suitable place to live and play sport. Anomalies have always existed in Galway, how many of 56 or 3 in row teams were not native to the area of the teams they played for and lived and worked in an other location? I feel it's not because they could possibly become successful, because the teams of the sixties seventies, eighties who had non domiciled non natives were quite successful. Tuam Stars , Dunmore McHales, St Grellans and Corofin. All of these clubs were are very successful while fielding "outside players". these players usually had relations or had a partner from the area or even worked for an organisation that had an operation in the area or even stayed there at some period. Some people seem to to think that only some clubs are allowed have success so for this reason 'facts' are constructed to suit the desired narrative.

100%, complete non issue, the lad lives in an hurling club area. Makes complete sense he would play for Tuam when he is working there

Agree with both. People migrate and need to change clubs and have to be accommodated. It's an unfortunate consequence that this serves to widen the gap between the strong and weak clubs as most migration is in to centres of population where there is already an embarrassment of riches in terms of population but it is what it is. But even rural clubs accept imported talent so it's not just an urban phenomenon. In the past 2 of the more notable ones were matt Duggan from Longford to annaghdown, Eddie o Sullivan ( of rugby fame) played in a county final for mountbellew in the 1980s.

Enda Geraghty another that Mountbellew poached from 'over the border'.

It doesn't matter anyway Tuam won't be winning anything. Dunmore had no quality backs to mark Mannion or Grugan. The tops team will keep Grugan quiet with little hassle. Mannion will take more minding. I have watched enough to say it's between Salthill and Moycullen for FF. I'm edging towards Moycullen. If I was giving advise on the transfer market, I'd tell Dunmore to go and buy some two top man marking backs and maybe one midfielder. They'd win a championship then cause they have everything else. Does anyone know when the market officially opens up? lol Green&Gold2013 (Galway) - Posts: 45 - 21/08/2025 13:45:55 2632984 Link 0 |
I'd have to agree with you re moycullen even tho they did struggle to beat Killannin until they went down to 14 but still have a good few to come back, id still be very wary of Corofin Garry Delaney is shrewd enough and won't be happy with the last outing, I believe Moycullen front runners and Corofin not far behind them

Any truth to the rumour that PJ is bringing in Donaghy? gaillimhboy (Galway) - Posts: 385 - 21/08/2025 18:13:10 2633036 Link 0 |
In many way Moycullen SK Corofin are happy to plod along and keep ticking over and get top spot their season starts from QF on. Moycullen plenty to come back Cooke etc same with SK & Corofin will take learnings from the draw v Milltown but again will wrap up top spot handy. I do feel Bernard Power is a huge loss for them and obviously Sice is too but given his age it was expected. Surprised Power gone as could easily be their no 1 for another few years. Also mad that Tony Gill seems to be with the intermediates was on Galway panely only 2 years ago not sure if he is coming back from injury possibly

I hope it happens. 'Star' is one of the most sought after coaches in the country now, after transforming Armagh's attacking play and more over his 5 years there. He was with Galway hurlers back around 2019, so no stranger to working here. I really hope we'll see him. I've said this umpteen times on this forum that the missing piece in our setup is a brilliant forwards coach, (and a born winner and massive motivator with it). We have a roster of talent upfront that most counties would die for, and our current mentors just can't seem to unlock it. Fix that and see what happens! Donaghy is exactly the guy needed to do it.

Salthill have 6 county players, all homegrown by the way. No other club comes close. Something to be admired, perhaps? StopTheLights (Galway) - Posts: 446 - 23/08/2025 13:12:21 2633209 Link 0 |
There is a lot of talk that Pj is not going to be the manager next year!! Anyone else hear this rumour?? Fox.1n.7he.b0x (Galway) - Posts: 166 - 25/08/2025 11:35:21 2633485 Link 0 |
If he is not going to be the manager he would need to go now.

How is it is the case when they haven't got a county final in years? I would strongly argue Maigh Cuillin and Corofin both should have six county players . Salthill Knocknarara are overrated.

Is tomo not from Clarinbridge. Was Rob allay with Salthill even when father was out playing for carraroe?

Please explain your understanding of "Homegrown".Look at the pick and population they have not delivered and last co title was 2012 which is simplyu not good enough for a club their size and with all their underage success were they can field up to 6 teams in age groups they if anything should be ashamed of their return.
