That's different now. That just a charming localised pronunciation habit in certain western pockets, and Marty Morrissey was even tickled enough by it to get in on the act too, especially back in the day of big Kevin 'Welsh'.

Any hope of Peter Cooke coming back in? Gearoid1998ffowaed (Galway) - Posts: 138 - 04/02/2025 14:26:46 2589447 Link 0 |
Ya I think the same, Heaney would be a great shout. I wouldn't move Conroy as it's m working where he is. Comer isn't great at the long kicks.

Conroy was an intercounty standard goalkeeper at underage so has experience there and if he was showing any signs of slowing down around midfield at age 35/36 it would've made complete sense to try him there PressureKick (UK) - Posts: 254 - 04/02/2025 16:28:43 2589470 Link 0 |
Having this exact discussion over the weekend. The discussion: Considering all the work that modern GKs put into pinging kickouts as well as GK specific training I'm not sure would it be reasonable to ask someone who hasn't played in goals for year however good they were 10+ years ago to go back there Vs Someone is going to play an outfield played in goals at some point! It may as well be someone with a GK background. A good outfield player like PC should be able to ping kickouts! The_DOC (Galway) - Posts: 744 - 04/02/2025 16:41:11 2589474 Link 0 |
With the new rules that you can't pass back to goalie in own half. jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1345 - 04/02/2025 17:27:48 2589482 Link 0 |
His marker was a forward.

Doesn't look likely at this stage. Surprised no journalist has asked PJ about him yet. Some were saying he wasn't even asked back this year but who knows?

He would make the difference needed to win when things get tighter , he was the most accurate scorer in clubs from outside the 40m. That's a lot of 2 pointers we could knock up on the scoreboard. Gearoid1998ffowaed (Galway) - Posts: 138 - 04/02/2025 20:22:14 2589511 Link 0 |
I know Comer is being managed and I am more than happy with that and with our status secured more or less after 2 games gives PJ & Co option to rest and try new lads. Is Tomo injured? Im surprised Egan has not been part of 26 unless injured? I must say I think we have build up a serious squad and team my biggest concern remains Gleeson. I dont envisage PJ taking foot off gas as in if a league final is on the cards he will go all for it. I know its early Feb & Mayo were short a few but I feel we are a much beter team than them both in terms of football & physicality. Eire89 (Galway) - Posts: 313 - 05/02/2025 09:23:23 2589545 Link 0 |
Conroy playing exceptional for his age - I am just thinking of the hard surface in Croke Park (hopefully) but maybe he might continue to surprise. It might give Comer a lease of life - he hasn't played well in a long time but Heaney would be my preference as I know he has a good boot off the ground and is a good attacker and finisher.

He had an exceptional connacht final last year. Comer will be very dangerous with the new rules. Management are smart to not risk him let him rehab as much as possible

We need more than just a line of big men across the middle for our kick outs. I was disappointed with this on Sunday and I was disappointed with Gleesons kicking including his one from play. His % from the 45s is low also. With his soccer experience his kicking from the deck should be his strength. smallfrank (Galway) - Posts: 454 - 05/02/2025 16:05:34 2589623 Link 0 |
Alot of talk about outfield players going in goals. Conor Flaherty plays outfield for his club and will be given a chance to play outfield in the league. He could well be the solution if we want a roving keeper. centrefield99 (Galway) - Posts: 140 - 06/02/2025 03:03:55 2589706 Link 0 |

We all have the same amount of time it's how we use it. could bring football back to the glory days Didn't full back blast kick outs down the field in 60s 70s?? jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1345 - 06/02/2025 15:16:23 2589768 Link 0 |
I share some of you concerns . there are a number of reasons why I wouldn't get carried away with last weekend. 1. Ref gave us more than fair play 2. Kick out strategy - We only have a plan A. Despite the stats I thought our midfield were dominant. But what happens if they are not. 3, Mayo cut us open far too often for my liking. Racked up a good score and should have been more 4. No real goal threats from us - not enough pace in inside line 5. We cant exploit our keeper coming forward like other teams 6. Its only early February On a separate point, some people have pointed to how weak Mayo were , but I don't think they are a lot better than that. Its amazing how biased supporters can put a spin on things . I saw on the Mayo blog a statement that Mayo were missing 7 from their last championship game and Galway missing only 2. I didn't think that was correct so i did a bit of research. 8 starters on the Mayo team v Derry 2024 started Sunday. 1 more came on as sub. 10 starters on the Galway v Armagh AI started Sunday. 2 more came on as subs Yes Mayo were relatively weaker versus their first choice , but not as dramatically so as the rhetoric from our neighbours would suggest. anotheralias (Galway) - Posts: 969 - 06/02/2025 17:31:43 2589788 Link 0 |
