Is anyone going to the Connacht V Leinster game at the weekend ?

Seen a clip of PJ with newstalk in relation to Cian o Neill going to Kerry looks like he was not too pleased how it was handled. I got impression they had chatted and it was not confirmed that O Neill was leaving Galway next thing he had signed with Kerry. Good riddance to him no doubt he is a good coach but if thats his carry on not letting PJ know after spending 3 years with him side by side least he could do his tell him his decision. Be interesting to see who PJ gets.

Saw that interview too. PJ looked bitter about it all.

Seems like O'Neill told PJ last year that this year would probably be his last with Galway but it wasn't confirmed. Then after the AI final they both said that they would speak about it after a break. Next thing O'Neill had taken the Kerry gig without first informing PJ that he was leaving Galway.

Replying To Marooned:  "Patrick Egan will be a big player for both Corofin and Galway in the years ahead. Still very young and has a bit of filling out to do but he's definitely the real deal. With Paul Conroy approaching the end in a Galway jersey at least it's important that some young midfielders start putting their hands up. Like Egan and Shay McGlinchey."
Leave McGlinchey alone. He is still only 19 and needs time. About 3-4 years. From this years 20'S Matthew Thompson , , Dara Walshe, and Daithi Kilcommons should be in Joyces sites. Thompson had a good year with Salthill, Walshe did well for Killannin and Kilcommons had a bad year with Injury and was badly missed by Annaghdown (and Galway under 20's) but also a serious player. Costello, Coen, and McGlinchey will be there in 2/3 years time. Gone are the days that a 19/20/21 year old will make senior county teams. Let them as Ferguson said about Robbie Keane " learn his trade first" like let them play with their club and establish their place on those team instead of sitting on the bench in the county set-up.

Walsh wasn't a regular starter for u20s and had limited impact when introduced.

We have an abundance of midfielders and he has some way to go yet.

Thompson started championship well and has potential would like see him involved.

The new rules if they come in could change type of players we look at

Who is the team of the championship so far.

Found this very heard to pick. 4 Corofin, 4 Moycullen, 2 Tuam, 1 Killanin, 1 Salthill, 1 St James, 1 Annaghdown, 1 Oughterard.

1. Bernie Power (Corofin)
2. Liam Silke(Corofin)
3. Sean Kelly (Moycullen)
4. Rory O Connor (Tuam)
5. Dylan McHugh(Corofin)
6. Diarmuid Kilcommins (Annaghdown)
7. Johnny Maloney (Moycullen)
8. John Maher (Salthill)
9. Paul Conroy (St James)
10. Peter Cooke (Moycullen)
11. Johnny Heaney (Killanin)
12 Matt Tierney (Oughterard)
13 Eoin Gallagher (Moycullen)
14 Jack McCabe (Corofin)
15 Brian Mannion (Tuam)

There are 3-4 lads picked that if they dont turn up their team will definitely get bet (Tierney, Heaney, Kilcommins, Conroy, Mannion). The remaining are what they are. You could pick a team of Corofin on their own after last weekend.

Would you do any better? Galway have played in wo All Ireland finals in three years. They stayed up in Division One this year under extremely difficult circumstances. Rob Finnerty going off injured in the final was a huge factor. It's very easy to be an expert on an anonymous internet website.

Might tell you more about Ferguson's evaluation on Keane that, than it does about his opinion on what age kids need to debut at. Yamal and Messi debuted for Barca at 16. Haaland scored a hat trick in 23mins on his senior Dortmund debut, aged 19. Just 3 examples, but if they're going to he good, really good, they'll be well able to impact at 19 or 20. Look at all the '94 '95 minors that transformed the Galway senior team in '98 as under21s.

Are you nuts leaving David Wynee out? He's been the best player consistently out of all the club teams.

Zero interest in going might watch it on TV is nothing else planned. The media will talk up the game and how great the new rules are regardless in reality we won't know about the rules into competitive inter county action is up and running again the fact it's to be review after one year tell me HQ aren't too confident they'll fit in.

Agree never mind bein in 15 David Wynne is up there with player of the year. Between himself Cooke & McCabe in my opinion. In relation to youngsters who caught the eye and who PJ should have in not saying starting but to develop etc its McElinchey Tuam & Thompson S/K. Egan already in and hoping he gets game time from the start obviously will depend if corofin have club commitments. Also feel PJ should do verything in his power to accomadate Cooke

Dont think its black and white as to how such a once powerful club like Griffin's slipped away. Lots of factors To my knowledge they had a wider base than just the inner city. I'm fairly sure that they pulled from Salthill area also. They were the caretakers of Pearse Stadium at one point ( might even have been their home ground, not sure) . Fr Griffin himself was from Rahoon. The great work done by the newly formed Salthill club in the 1970s definitely led to a situation whereby Griffin's were squeezed out of that catchment but they probably could have still pulled from that growing population ( Salthill Knocknacarra has the population to support 2 clubs) if they concentrated more at under age and less at pulling adult players from other clubs outside the city. But yes the evolving demographics of the inner city was also a factor as you have alluded to. I would say that Liam Mellowes were in the same boat but it didn't seem to impact them as much.
Just as an aside , what is Fr Griffin's catchment now? Is it just the old Eire Og catchment or does it include inner city, parts of Westside, Woodquay, Bohermore.. I always though that St Michaels extended in there and if thats the case was there ever a clear definition of what was Fr Griffin's catchment?

Id actually well agree with Wynee as player of the year. McCabe is solid, but he's still young and will get it again. Watching back last weekends match, David Wynee won so many balls, anytime there was a scramble he had it got and half way up the pitch before Tuam knew what was going on. Cooke is class, he needs to be on the Galway team next year, but he's not half as consistent as Wynee. He played one great game, and half a game last week that didn't wow. If he gets half an opportunity to score from 45, he will, but he missed a very easy goal the last day right front of the net, and he doesn't have the same agency as Wynne. Wynee lets the ball come to him, Wynee is out there fighting every ball.
