There are good teams in the prelims. Difficult to look past an oranmore who finally have their act together. Beating Michael's who got to semi final in div 1 league this year. Still would expect it to be one of those two.

Best in the business at what?? He wouldn't help Galway take the next step. Any players emerging in the Galway county championship that could help give them a bit of strenght in depth? They will neec that to compete next year. JimB1991 (Donegal) - Posts: 8 - 26/09/2024 22:48:22 2572029 Link 0 |

Be careful systematic. I suggested a while back that it was between this two, and I got some very derogatory replies... "havent a clue about intermediate football" , " never kicked a ball in my life"

Fairly comfortable win for Salthill. Poor first half but Dunmore couldn't get going in the second half. Both sides missed goal chances. Fairly handy for Salthill to bring on Evan Murphy at half time who made a big difference with three great points. Rob Finnerty back on the field as well for the last 15 mins or so. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 789 - 28/09/2024 18:05:27 2572219 Link 0 |
Supposedly Gary Delaney has stepped down from Dunmore this evening.

Looking at the line ups for the latter end of Senior and Intermediate Championships you would wonder how some clubs will manage to keep going. Black+Blue (Galway) - Posts: 132 - 29/09/2024 15:10:04 2572353 Link 0 |
Peter Cooke had a serious performance yesterday. Gearoid1998ffowaed (Galway) - Posts: 131 - 29/09/2024 15:19:00 2572355 Link 0 |
Cooke with a tour de force as expected Corofin tuam moycullen salthill progress. Corofin V Salthill & Moycullen v Tuam. Feels like it has to now for salthill Corofin looked very ordinary against kilanin granted always felt like had another fear if necessary. I feel moycullen are the best of the 4 teams left but Tuam have nothing to lose but moycullen will have too much for them. Will finnerty be fit enough ti start against Corofin I doubt it

Dunmore always one of my favourite teams along with Tuam. In fairness, they have made great advances in the last few years. Dunmore community school have also done well in recent years. So, there should be plenty of young lads stepping up in the next few years. Imo, it would be great for Galway football in general, to see Tuam break their duck this autumn.. it's been too long. Killanin should have huge regrets over that. Their own mistakes killed them. If Corofin have another gear (and I think they do) they didn't have to go to it. Moycullen vs Salthill final I think but every team left rightfully will really fancy their chances Rob finnerty and Peter Cooke are huge returnees Dessie fully fit will cause problems galwayfball (Galway) - Posts: 1704 - 29/09/2024 18:46:49 2572386 Link 1 |
Dunmore, Oughterard and Killanin all drew the short straw(s) in the quarters and as a result missed out on a semi final place because it was taken for granted that the big three were a shoo in and the fourth place could go to anyone of 4 or 5 teams lucky enough to avoid them.More of the second level teams need to up their game a couple of notches to have a real chance and make the championship more competitive, hoping to catch one of them on an off day isn't enough to make progress. backtooldwall (Galway) - Posts: 133 - 29/09/2024 19:00:49 2572392 Link 0 |

Athenry, Ballinasloe and Headford should never in a million years be amalgamating with anyone. The no 1 job of coaching officers should be to make sure the bigger towns are in the top divisions regardless of area. Agree that amalgamation the way for smaller populations. I'm from a small club myself and recently visited Naomh Mearnog in Dublin which was an eye opener. Coaching officers and working in the schools seems to be the key and getting the parents involved in any way at all. smallfrank (Galway) - Posts: 440 - 30/09/2024 09:57:33 2572471 Link 0 |
I think the best 4 teams are left in the semis and credit to those involved because the groups and structure must be working for that to happen. Lots of people commenting earlier in the year about other clubs arriving but to be brutally honest, they are as far away as ever. I think most people would like to see a Moycullen Corofin final and that would be intriguing with the likes of Johnson, Cathal Clancy etc, 2 young(ish) guys who are improving their reputations year after year. But…there's often a spanner in the word. Semis will be good but possibly cagey

Shane Walsh developed in Kilkerrin Clonberne. David Clifford came from a junior club. If the talent and commitment is there, it will happen.

St Michaels to win intermediate they should have plenty enough for Gabriels best draw they could have got in quarters. Will Oanmore be their biggest danger? Football in the wesht is at a very low ebb. Michael Breathanchs & Spiddal exiting at last 12 stage. Carraroe down in junior only lettermoe flying the flag for connemara. Carraroe should bounce straight back up although headford will feel they will have a say. Any players PJ should be looking at to get involved with Galway. Obvious answer is Cooke he should do everything in his power to get him in a maroon jersey in 2025. Eire89 (Galway) - Posts: 299 - 30/09/2024 11:43:57 2572498 Link 1 |
