Replying To Blackspot09:  "I agree. How do we even know he cares about Meath football..."
He played minor for Meath, has spoken before about a lifetime of attending games. As I noted on the original post it wasn't too be taken too seriously, just thinking about a left field voice that could help a larger coaching team.

Replying To MeathAbroad:  "All this management talk got me thinking about who would be a good appointment for either a new coaching ticket or (more likely at this stage) one final attempt by COR to get things right. This is a non-exhaustive list and some would fit in as backroom figures, others as head coaches/managers in their own right. Interested to hear thoughts on these or other suggestions. And yes, some of the names are ridiculous but sure that's part of the craic when nothing is decided.

Malachy O'Rourke must be licking his lips at the prospect of experimental rules next year. For one of the game's few true tactical minds 2025 must represent a one-off opportunity to get a massive edge through tactical innovation

Conleith Gilligan, on the shortlist for the Derry gig. Came on board with Armagh as a coach and was a coach when Kilcoo won club championship in 2022

Barry Dillon managed UU to the Sigerson Cup win last year, their first win in 16 years

Jason Sherlock was involved with Westmeath as 'performance coach' for past two seasons. Of the AI series also-rans they at least put up a challenge to the big guns.

Oisin McConville and Andy Moran both possible gets (between the Armagh job being locked down by Geezer and Moran quitting Leitrim) and both well respected and knowledgeable about the modern game

Brian Farrell, who I've mentioned before, but I just like the combination of being from Meath, but coaching in Dublin!

Mick Bohan, did great things with Dublin ladies and worked as skills coach with Dublin men and with Colm Collins for Clare.

Declan Darcy, apparently the man most Dublin players want to succeed Dessie and heavily involved throughout all their success. His work with Leinster gives him a fresh perspective too. Brian Cullen another man with experience with Leinster recently.

Shane Horgan, feck it. Thinking outside the box. Someone who cares about Meath football and might bring a fresh perspective as a small part of a coaching team."
Mick Bohan already worked in Meath too

Yes, Mick Bohan was with St. Pats Stamullen when they were in the senior championship to the best of my knowledge.

So looks like COR likely to stay if he pulls together a decent coaching ticket?

That's the way thing's stand at the moment. Player's have sought a change going forward. Hopefully COR can introduce a more experienced coaching ticket before the 27th. Other counties are in a similar place to us with decision's around final setup yet to be finalised.

If this is the case then we have learned nothing, This has all happened on COR watch and he should not get a free pass.

Hard to see it happening after the chopping & changing in the past two years, I'd be happy to be proven wrong by some good and proven coaches come in but just can't see it, really coming to crunch time now on the doorstep of September and still no clarity on the situation.

According to the Smaller Fish podcast, what has held up COR reappointment is that the county board went to the players and their review of the management was so scathing that they had to delay and that a lot of the players won't be back if COR is reappointed.

I can't see it either unfortunately. We had good, proven, winning coaches in year one and look how that turned out. It all has a feel of Andy McEntee's last year. It's a shame the county board can't learn from mistakes.

Look I am going to be honest here , I can't for the life of me understand what O'Rourke trying to do.

If he does put together a new backroom team it could be a very underwhelming backroom team.

If I pick a backroom team, and if they are not good enough it's my fault not theirs because I picked them it was my call , but it seems everyone else is to blame but not Colm O'Rourke for the last two years.

So he picks a new backroom team , new selectors , new coach etc etc , so who decides if they are adequate or not ? I think the players should.

Right or wrong this seems to be the plan, players wanted change ( hence the two lads stepping down) some would have you believe players will not play under COR, not so. Would be ok with him remaining as manager for the sake of continunity, however need's a beefed up coaching ticket. May have left it too late but as I said many counties still to finalise their management group. Don't be surprised if this drag's on a bit longer than the 27th.

The new beefed up coaching ticket needs to get the correct amount of input and influence.

This is vital but not something I would expect to happen under this manager.

2 coaches walking away after year 1 and 2 coaches walking away after year 2 would imply their is some issue there.

Not sure where the idea that COR will not listen to coach and is running a one man show? No idea why previous lad's left but this time around it was player driven. How many changes did Armagh go through over last nine years before success? Hopefull all will be revealed soon, however I doubt it and door will remain open for more rumours.

The dogs on the street know that the first two coaches were given little or no input and were wasting their time being involved.

The Kieran Mcgeeney Armagh thing is the big new idea that suits the current narrative , the thing about Kieran is that he started his managerial career with Kildare back in 2007 until 2013 , he has over 17 years of top level management county football in the bank ! Colm O'Rourke is 67 years of age as we speak , if we apply the same logic Colm O'Rourke would be 84 years of age before he lands a all Ireland for Meath.

I could buy into that idea with a younger manger, but that said wouldn't we have been better of keeping Andy McEntee a younger manger if this was the correct new approach ?

For me the juice is not worth the squeeze!

Agreed. Things are far from great but continuity with O'Rourke at the helm is not a bad thing if a good modern coaching setup is put in place. I'm sure Colm will have learnt a huge amount albeit the hard way even as we know results have been poor. There's no doubt players wanted change but that change doesn't necessarily mean O'Rourke out. What we know now is that there most certainly will be change so let's hope its for the better.

He's had 2 years to get his setup right. He failed. Why should he get a third chance? Not a single positive can be taken from this season gone by. Get someone else in.

No, Andy's time was up. Of course we can make up a never ending list of whataboutry to suit our own views.
For every K Mc there is a list of failures. True also of Jim Mc and his instant impact we have a Jack O C failure with Kildare. Mickey Hart ( 70) is seen by some as a great bit of foresight by Offaly, yet Derry could not unload him quick enough. Very easy to find fault with view's that do not suit our own. Even COR biggest fan's are not suggesting he stays for the next ten year's.

Far too late in the year to be making a major decision like this. The available time left to introduce change is now a main consideration, and it shouldn't have been
