Replying To WhyTheLongFace:  "The Colm O'Rourke fans must be the greatest weirdos I have ever met , remember the Colm O ' Rourke fans don't support Meath , the players only Colm O'Rourke , no disrespect to Colm O' Rourke who is a legend a gentleman and I can't praise him enough as a person."
Bit harsh, don't think we have met, however,my wife would more or less agree with you. Could never see the logic in me heading off on a long drive throughout the season, but I suppose it takes all sort's. Rest assured anyone going to watch Meath are supporter's, all are welcome, weirdos included. COR time has passed, time go move on.

Replying To LowerHogan:  "Eoghan Frayne played great this year with very little to work with he could easily keep that momentum to Div 1 level, Jordan Morris & Shane Walsh aren't a million miles off, if they can stay fit and with good coaching to keep improving them and they can progress to that level aswell. Jack O'Connor is the best runner with the ball we have, he can easily get us 30-40yrds up the pitch on counter attacks and when in full flight is very hard to stop but again needs to coaching to keep him progressing and maintain consistency. We're not too far off promotion level in Div 2 with the players we have we just need that structure and clear plan, I see 4-5 very winnable games in the league and the other 2 comes down to the day."
Eoghan Frayne is a fabulous footballer but I'm not sure if he has that half yard of space against best teams. It could come though as he gets older.

Morris is very talented but too one footed and inconsistent to be a Div 1 forward. Also I'm not sure a modern percentages coach has room for someone so mercurial given that he often shoots when he should pass or recycle.

Great hopes for Shane Walsh at one point but alas…

Agree with you on O'Connor, he has huge potential and is the one you mention who I think could become a high level forward.

Fair play Seadog you gave me a good chuckle with that answer:)

i think if we finish 3rd/4th it would be acceptable in div 2. its still very tricky games in it. getting out of the group in sam maguire would be a bonus terrritiry for this team, i think promotion could hinder them it could be a year too soon.
but there is no outstanding team in the division. I dont see monaghon going back up, id have roscommon and louth to go up 1st and 2nd, hopefully meath and cork in close in the shake up.

1 Roscommon
2 Louth
3 Cork
4 Meath
5 Cavan
6 Monaghon
7 Down
8 Westmeath

Jack O'connor is going travelling so will not be available for next year I've heard.

I don't think we will finish that high in all honesty , win 3 or 4 games next year is good enough .

Top 4 will be Roscommon , Monaghan , Cork , Cavan and Louth fighting it out for 4th spot.

Westmeath are decent and so is Down.

Over the past two League seasons - with first Dublin and Derry and then Armagh and Donegal - the promoted teams have been dead certs. All reached the last 4 of the AI later in the year and two went on to win the Sam.

That's not the case this year. No outstanding team. Each of the 8 teams would likely be delighted if they reached the AI quarter-finals next year. And that would be a stretch for most. So every team - rightly or wrongly - will easily be able to convince themselves promotion is a realistic aim. And every team with look at Kildare last year and know relegation is a possibility.

It could still see a Roscommon or Cork or Louth racing away from the field, but two early wins would put get confidence up and put us in the mix. And that's without even factoring in how crazy it could get with the experimental rules.

If Meath ended up 5th or 6th yet again, but were clearly trying to embed a coherent strategy, then I wouldn't be too worried. But I also wouldn't rule out promotion and I'm far less worried about relegation than before the management change. Think it's going to be a very exciting Division 2 after a few dull years. Possibly with multiple teams going for promotion on the final day.

Why would you expect Cavan to be fighting for a higher position than us?

Why wouldn't they ? I am sure they have ambitions also and be fighting for a higher position than us !

They finished 3rd last year so I would expect Cavan want to stay around that ball park !

So yeah :)

Been very quiet on here personally in recent months. But have been reading from afar and can't help but be bemused by some of what's being said.

Colm O'Rourke was rightly releaved of his position/ allowed to step down gracefully. There was no progress in year two and we did go backwards. And all of that isn't on Colm, a large chunk yes, but all of it.. not a chance. These players have stood behind a survey.

There's people on here saying we've some division one calibre players.. we don't have one and we barely have a high end division two player never mind several of them that are needed to get us into division one. People, me included, have blamed Andy and Colm but almost ignored those on the pitch.. believing the hype of unfilled potential from underage.. until these players stand up and are counted when it matters we're going nowhere.. Andy got us to division one with a different group of players who were a harder bunch of individuals Trying to say we're good enough for promotion is a fallacy based on everything we've seen since 2022.

Some have tried to say with modern coaching etc we'd be a different animal, I just don't see it.. and I genuinely hope to be proven wrong.

Robbie Brennan is the best man for this job right now, look at his track record. Tell me a better person available who'd honestly take the job? Malachi O'Rourke not a chance he'd take us, Rochford, not a good manager, but a dec t coach, Eamonn Fitzmaurice, pie in the sky thinking. Look at the standard of coaches and selectors Robbie has assembled too, this is the best we've had for arguably 15-20 years. And I'm glad he's gone outside the county too, this county is too prone to political influences from certain clubs and people. To move forward Meath needs to move beyond that small minded thinking. Fresh eyes, unincumbered by links to anyone .

2025 will be a struggle, there's no quick wins. Ultimately the player pool won't change hugely. They've now been backed into a corner, been given a top class set up who'll play modern football and it's now up to them to show up and play to a decent standard. As I said under Colm, Robbie's term has got to be about gradual and continuous improvements. Saying division one and Leinster and beyond is not right. A coherent pattern and style of play is needed. A consistent team that's willing to work hard (sorely lacking for years) for 70 minutes is a must. A core of 15-20 players who are elevating their own standards each year is essential.

There's plenty more I could say but hope I've expressed a few decent points.

Also I've heard the same re Jack o'connor, he's off abroad for 2025 so won't be available.

Having watched the Kells Dunboyne game recently I wonder could Seamus Lavin be tempted back into the fold.

Completely agree Brian and a good honest insightful post.

I would be happy winning a few games and stay up in division 2 next year . But I am sure Robbie Brennan and is backroom team and the players will have there own ambitions which is always good and gives something to aim for.

Yes they finished 3rd but only 1 pt ahead of us, 2 above relegation and 5 off promotion. We finished level on pts with Cork and Louth also. I don't understand this acceptance of us being allowed to think that these teams should be better than us. Our league form wasn't good enough this year so why would we accept same or worse next year?
Remember Cavan were actually in Tailteann Cup in 2023, a competition we won. Performed as badly as Meath if not worse in All Ireland series too this year. Even lost to Dublin by a larger margin than Meath believe or not! It seems acceptable for some people that we can make no progression since last and fall further behind bang average teams when it certainly wasn't acceptable by same people the past two years.

Well there's the culture in the county in a nutshell. The Dublin players win things before they travel or they take time off to actually achieve things like becoming doctors and surgeons.

What a ridiculous post. And quite insulting to the meath players. There are plenty of them who have achieved good successful careers in their day jobs.

I disagree. It shows the mentality of players in the county. Do you see the Dublin, Kerry players etc going "travelling" for a year? No. And don't give me the broadening horizons nonsense. These kind of lads will be playing Gaelic football in Australia or the US, pretending they are having some extraordinary cultural experience.

David Clifford and his ilk are thinking about getting right to compete next year … the Meath lads are downloading instagram. Cian Ward nailed them 100%.

One player from Dunboyne should be brought in big midfielder can't think his name u20 player has the ingredients.after that I'd say no.

Nonsence, this is not a professional sport and demanding the same standard's will lead to more lad's refuseing to play with county and rightly so.
