Group A
Dunshauglin v Don/Ash - Think Costello, Grey and Kinsella will be the diff here. Ashbourne will set up with 13 behind the ball and it will be interesting to see if this young Dunshaughlin can break them down. Dunshaughlin by 4
Ballunabrackey v Summerhill - Time to see what the Bracks learned from the league final. Summerhill by 3

Group B
Gaeil Colmcille v Wolfe Tones - Tones are the most defensive team by far, Kells are probably the oldest. Low scoring match. Draw
Curraha v Dunboyne - If Curraha can hold Lenihan I give them a chance because the rest of Dunboynes forwards are poor. Curraha by 2

Group C
St Colmcilles v Senchalstown - Neither are a real contender but both would be confident of making it out of the group. Interesting to see how Cian Commons goes. Yellow Furze men by 1
Na Fianna v Simonstown - Relegation to division 2 for Simonstown and that will be followed up with an opening round defeat. Na Fianna by 6

Group D
Rathkenny v Trim - Rathkenny aren't as poor as people think, they have a nice youthful side with the Curtis's and O Hare's mixed with the experience of Keoghan, Meade and Mackin. Trim have had a lot of hurling to contend with so far and might struggle against a fresher Rathkenny side. Ratheknny by 2
Ratoath v Skryne - Skyrne survived by the skin of their teeth last year and I think they will do well to make it out of this group. For Ratoath it's a case of getting game time into lots of players who need it especially Kelly as he has had no championship experience yet. Ratoath by 9

Interesting to see how teams shape up for R1. I don't think we've seen anyone with a full deck in the league.

Dunshauglin v Don/Ash- Game of the round. Two teams who expect to be in the later stages. Loser of this will have it all to do and may be looking at a relagation battle. Ashbourne by 1.

Ballinabracky v Summerhill- Summerhill 6+

Group B
Gaeil Colmcille v Wolfe Tones- Another tight call, Tones by 2.

Curraha v Dunboyne- Dunboyne to win but not have it easy. Dunboyne by 2

Group C
St Colmcilles v Senchalstown- Tight game. Two teams on the way up. Draw. Wouldn't be surprised to see both of these teams get to a quater final.

Na Fianna v Simonstown- Group C the hardest to call another tight game. Na fianna by 1

Group D
Rathkenny v Trim- Can see Rathkenny being competitive first game back up but unfortunately Div 3 is no place to prepare for Senior football and can see Trim pulling away in the second half. Trim by 5

Ratoath v Sykrne- Skryne seem to be moving well and Ratoath yet to play their hand with Hurling taking focus over the last month. A surprise is on the cards here. Skryne by 1.

24 point turn around from Trim and Skryne last year?

Is Jack Flynn back for Na Fianna at all?

Will be interesting to see how the bracks do in the opener against Summerhill. Obviously Summerhill are fave's and rightly so, but I thought the Bracks might have posed a bit of a challenge until I saw how the league went. Anyone know if the Bracks were missing many for that game as county was well finished so to me it billed as a copy of the championship opener

I'd say Ratoath might have something to say about it if he was playing for Na Fianna this weekend.

Dunboyne really left a mark on Curraha, solid in defence but their forwards will have better backs to deal with against Kells and Tones.

A good east meath derby, Seneschalstown were in it up until half time but Cilles class showed through.

If Dunboyne and Cilles can bring that form into the rest of championship they will definitely cause Summerhill and Ratoath problems.

The good teams always seem to find a way. Not quite sure how Summerhill won that but they did. Damien Carroll really excellent for Ballinabrackey.

Yeah, League and championship two different competitions.

This was always going to be a tight affair , bit of experience and better forwards won the day in the end which was a great tactical battle.

Both teams will improve from today, next round is a cup final for Bracks and Ashbourne, whoever loses is out. Could be an interesting finish to this group yet.

Big win for Skyrne against Ratoath, little surprised but not shocked.

Team nobody talking about is Dunboyne who will have a big say.

Very open championship.

Cant see Cilles troubling them to be honest, Dunboyne yes.

An interesting round 1.

On the two games I saw, Dunboyne looked the most impressive. Lavin has to go back in with Meath next year and 11 for Dunboyne as well was impressive, can't think of his name now. From a Curraha perspective, they were poor all over, Jack O Connor was probably their stand out player.

Cilles have all the talent but the question now is can they go and back it up and knock out one of the top teams, something they haven't done. Seneschalstown were poor all round and are lacking that bit of spark.

Question for the Ratoath posters, is this the end of a great Ratoath team? McGill, Cian and Bobby O Brien, McMahon are all in their 30's now and back boned it for so long, Brian Power is gone and the two Wallaces aren't far behind either. I know the likes of Liam Kelly, Daithi McGowan and Jack Flynn are all still young but they don't seem to be able to replace the quality in what they had.

11 for dunboyne was Jack Kinlough. I agree he will definitely be involved with meath. He's won an all ireland minor and leinster under 20 with meath. I don't think Dunboyne are real contenders. Against the better teams they are far too reliant on Lenihan for scores. Until I see this change I don't believe in them. Summerhill are the clear favourites. I'd have Dunshaughlin ahead of Ratoath after today.

Ratoath on a pedestal.
Not sure why everyone has them to win. Can't see them doing well this year.
Past years they have won on luck.

Not 100% on Dunshaughlin just yet, they have great forwards in Kinsella, Mitchell and Costello plus Gray at midfield but not sure do they have the man markers for Summerhills 3 danger men.

Dunboyne are the opposites, great backs but too reliant on Lenihan.

If Ratoath get it right they have the backs and forwards to compete with Summerhill.

Ratoath still are blessed with amazing talent coming through but in danger of blowing it. The second team has great young talent but something very wrong with senior management. It looked like someone was in the pub picking the next fellows in the door. Good players overlooked and senior game time given to older lads out of condition. One lad came on obviously with no movement

Neither side made use of the strong wind advantage. Skryne dominated the play and Ratoath only really came to life close to the end. Very rusty start for Ratoath, promising start for Skryne, considering last year. Lots of good young lads on display in blue. Ratoath's standout player was also their youngest, Eoin Drysdale. Wouldn't be panicking yet, a good team improves with each game and Ratoath have plenty of good enough players to make another challenge this year.
