League fixtures announced, 4 away games is always a bit tougher, Derry & Kildare away will be particularly tough. But no reason why we shouldn't be 2/2 after to games. We're going to have to beat Dublin or Kildare to have any chance of promotion
Round 1 Cork v Meath Pairc Ui Chaoimh
Round 2 Meath v Clare in Pairc Tailteann
Round 3 Derry v Meath in Celtic Park
Round 4 Meath v Louth Pairc Tailteann
Round 5 Limerick v Meath in Gaelic Grounds
Round 6 Meath v Dublin in Pairc Tailteann
Round 7 Kildare v Meath in Newbridge

Round 7 Kildare v Meath in Newbridge" It is always hard to know where any team is at for the league campaign. Division 2 is always a tough one and I think with the new format for the All Ireland it is going to get even more so! Instinctively I am calling it as follows;
Round 1 Cork v Meath Pairc Ui Chaoimh - I always feel Cork are like the sleeping giant in football terms. The club structure appears to be good and with Barrs beating Nemo it will be interesting to see how they go in Munster. That said, Meath always appear to play well against Cork and our lads might just prefer playing there! I think we could win this one!
Round 2 Meath v Clare in Pairc Tailteann - Clare beat us in the All Ireland this year in a hugely disappointing result! But I really feel we are a better team and think we could win this one!!
Round 3 Derry v Meath in Celtic Park - This will be really tough - Derry had a great year last year and I think they will carry that through this year! This is one that might get away on us!
Round 4 Meath v Louth Pairc Tailteann - I actually think we will win this one - Harte is doing a decent job with Louth but I would expect us to have a little more than them!
Round 5 Limerick v Meath in Gaelic Grounds - Like us, Limerick have a new manager! I think they will be looking to retain D2 status and depending on where they are by the time this game comes around this game could be a banana skin! that said I'd fancy us to win it!!
Round 6 Meath v Dublin in Pairc Tailteann - Which Dublin will be playing in the League! I expect the Dubs to be going all out for promotion but I think the veneer of invincibility is well and truly broken! A good chance to get one over on the Blues!
Round 7 Kildare v Meath in Newbridge - Kildare v Meath is always a tough one! Hopefully this game will involve two teams looking for promotion! I think (getting carried away with myself here!!) we will be coming into this with 5 wins and a loss - and set us up for a real run at Leinster and the All Ireland!!

Optimism and hope is one thing but we also need to be realistic as well, we have a new manager, one or two possible departures and I would imagine a new system and game plan to get used to so while the aim is obviously to be for promotion, the expectation I think should be seeing a 3rd or 4th place finish as reasonable as well.
I agree that we seem to have had the better of Cork in recent years, the fact it is away will give Cork extra motivation but I still think we could get the win here. Round 2 Meath v Clare in Pairc Tailteann - Clare beat us in the All Ireland this year in a hugely disappointing result! But I really feel we are a better team and think we could win this one!! A terrible display down in Clare, simple as that and I don't think we will play that bad again. In Navan I would expect this to be a slightly more comfortable and convincing win,. Round 3 Derry v Meath in Celtic Park - This will be really tough - Derry had a great year last year and I think they will carry that through this year! This is one that might get away on us! I can't see us winning this based on where the two teams are at on last years form, the fact it is in Derry as well mean I can see a Derry win here. Obviously I will travel in hope and cheer the lads on, it is impossible for us to win but looking at it from a logical stand point you have to have Derry as favourites. Round 4 Meath v Louth Pairc Tailteann - I actually think we will win this one - Harte is doing a decent job with Louth but I would expect us to have a little more than them! Anything but a win here is not acceptable. Louth are doing well under Harte yes but are still not a good side and having them in Navan means we can't accept anything other that the 2 points. Round 5 Limerick v Meath in Gaelic Grounds - Like us, Limerick have a new manager! I think they will be looking to retain D2 status and depending on where they are by the time this game comes around this game could be a banana skin! that said I'd fancy us to win it!! Similar to Cork, I think we are better than Limerick and if it was in Navan I would see us winning easily, the fact it is away has me slightly un easy but again I think we are the better team here and should get the win. Round 6 Meath v Dublin in Pairc Tailteann - Which Dublin will be playing in the League! I expect the Dubs to be going all out for promotion but I think the veneer of invincibility is well and truly broken! A good chance to get one over on the Blues! Regardless of venue we are still a long way off Dublin, yes having them in Navan is nice and hopefully we put up a decent performance but there is nothing to suggest we can beat them at the moment. (Will happily eat a table of humble pie if proven wrong...........along with a rake of pints as well) Round 7 Kildare v Meath in Newbridge - Kildare v Meath is always a tough one! Hopefully this game will involve two teams looking for promotion! I think (getting carried away with myself here!!) we will be coming into this with 5 wins and a loss - and set us up for a real run at Leinster and the All Ireland!!" In my opinion this is the game for 3rd/4th place unless Kildare manage to beat Derry. Its the one fixture where playing away from home doesn't bother me either. Its been fairly close down through the years and this game will be decided on form at this stage of the league and any possible injuries/absentees as well.
Its a new era for Meath football and hopefully we can go well in the league but we need to be realistic about things as well.

It's a tough enough set of fixtures, and if we win all the ones we should win and are competitive and show a bit of something in the other games, I'll be happy.
But momentum is the most important thing in football and we have a good chance to bringing that into the tougher games if we can string a couple of wins together. Derry away is huge, with Louth and Limerick coming up after - we could easilly be 4/5 or 5/5. But being more realistic, below is what I think will happen.
Round 1 Cork v Meath Pairc Ui Chaoimh - We should be winning this, Cork barely survived the drop last year and they were absymal in Navan when we beat them. They'll be better but has to be win
Round 2 Meath v Clare in Pairc Tailteann Was down at Ennis when we embarrassed ourselves in the championship, but I think we are a better team than Clare. Don't get me wrong, you have to respect them and they're more than capable of turning us over. But we should be winning this
Round 3 Derry v Meath in Celtic Park Coming into this game 2/2 will be huge, we haven't travelled to Ulster well in recent years so it'll be a huge ask. If Derry continue to progress, I just can't see us beating them away from home
Round 4 Meath v Louth Pairc Tailteann Always a bit of something extra in this one, but another one we should be winning.
Round 5 Limerick v Meath in Gaelic Grounds Potential to be a tricky fixture, Limerick are not a bad team but we should have too much for them
Round 6 Meath v Dublin in Pairc Tailteann Be definitely great to see this take place in Navan, Always going to be a very big ask. Dublin will have too much for us.
Round 7 Kildare v Meath in Newbridge This could be a all of nothing match for both teams, haven't seen Kildare's fixtures but they'll be right up there. We always seem to fall short against Kildare when it matters, Kildare to edge it
So 4 wins 3 losses if we're being realistic, but we're more than capable of picking up something against one of the three big team. Like I said, Derry might be the big one, if we can go and win there, it gives us a huge promotion shout

Difficult to forecast how things will shape up this year, panel as yet unkown, sure there will be many familiar faces and hopefully a few new ones, what style of football will we adopt? How quickly can management correct long standing issues, so many unkowns make it impossible to predict any result, only form to go on is last season and hopefully that is in the distant past. Tough opener away to Cork, like ourselves will be a bit of an unkown, have a good man in charge and a fair bit of young talent coming through. A good start, as always, is a must, build a bit of confidence and see where it takes us.

Could lose every game with the exception of Limerick. Could win every game with the exception of Dublin. No one knows. The team won't be that much changed apart from a couple of departures. What will the system be ? Has to be the running game , we don't have any players to play any other way I'm afraid, so it will be defensive with quick breaks and hopefully some better finishing than last year. We have to be going for promotion otherwise what's the point. ? I really think relegation shouldn't be a problem. Limerick and louth are odds on to go down. If we were to be relegated it would be a disaster and a terrible start for orurke one which I don't think he could bounce back from. So for me that's a no no. Cork are terrible at the minute, and even down there we should be winning with a bit to spare same with Limerick, Derry are a decent side but let's be honest we had them beat all over last year until a error let them win and we had nothing to play for they had everything, Kildare still don't rate them and actually think if we are to show improvement this year this game is a must win. Should be beating louth in a tough match in navan clare are a decent solid consistent div 2 team I wouldn't be as confident as some seem to be of a win. Clare have beat us , Roscommon, Kildare etc over the past few years. So it's not a gimme by any means, I'd settle for a draw. Dublin in navan is the pinnacle in my opinion, we really need to give them a game on home soil. But if I'm honest Dublin are still ahead of not only us but most of the country and they will want to go through league unbeaten, they have some excellent players back. And despite my eternal optimism I can't see anything other than a loss for us. So on that basis I'll go for 1 loss , 1 draw and 6 wins. Enough to promote us along with Dublin and a day out in Croke park in final. Hon the royal.

Every year you will always get one or two who can't commit for that year. For various reasons. I was really hoping lavin would be back this year as I think we are a much better team with him. But again I heard he won't be. If anyone knows any different I'd love to know.

Heard this too but will be interesting to see will it happen. Don't think we have the dangerous ball winning forwards inside to play this way. And Garrigan and Eivers' teams from what I've heard/seen usually play through the hands more

Replying To bert09: "COR has already come out and said he wants to play more of a kicking game so can see some changes coming in that regard." Heard that. But it's hard to see where the ball winners are in that scenario. We tried that last year with the u20s and to be honest we were humiliated. I just don't think we have the players with those attributes at the moment. Open to be proved wrong. But the running game is still our best option with what we have I'd say

Replying To LeitrimRoyal99: "Heard this too but will be interesting to see will it happen. Don't think we have the dangerous ball winning forwards inside to play this way. And Garrigan and Eivers' teams from what I've heard/seen usually play through the hands more" Yeah that's my thinking too

Replying To hyperache: "League fixtures announced, 4 away games is always a bit tougher, Derry & Kildare away will be particularly tough.
Round 7 Kildare v Meath in Newbridge" Don't see us winning away in Derry, hard to see us loosing against Clare or Louth in Navan. I would have liked Dublin in the last game when they may already be qualified. Still if they have won their earlier games they may have their eye off the ball a bit when we play them. At this distance each of the other games look not far off 50/50.

Div 3 and the Tailteann cup beckons after that draw im afraid. It was crucial we got 4 homes, including Derry Kildare and probably cork at home. Can only see 2 points I'd be relatively confident of and that's home to louth. I'm sure Dublin in Navan will insure we don't get a hiding. We usually start slowly so cork away not a good start. Derry will be a hiding up there. Limerick clare and louth are the 3 games that'll determine it all for us, and would you bet on us in any if them right now ???? Kildare could end up sending us down in Newbridge

Even as poor as we showed last year there is nothing to say that we shouldn't be beating Louth, Limerick, Cork at a minimum and potentially Clare at home as well. "Div 3 and Tailteann cup beckons" is a sad sad view to have and a completely unfair one as well

To me the forthcoming league campaign will to a great degree depend on us getting a boost from the new management team. I for one welcome Colm O'Rourke's statement the there will be 'more kicking', now I don't expect high "Hail Mary" efforts into the full forward line but I hope that when working the ball from the back that sensible crisp kicks directly to outrunning forwards will be used to transfer the ball to the scoring area quicker than we did in the recent past. If we're don't derive some extra synergy from the change of management then it will not be a comfortable few months. The very winnable games, to Louth and Limerick could easily become sticky wickets if the start is not good. Even with the hoped for new management boost Clare will be no pushover, even since our last meeting their stock has improved considerably by beating Roscommon against the odd in the championship, something we could not achieve. So I expect a tough battle there. As for the last two games, it will all depend on what we are contending for.
