What junior players would you be looking at?

It has only been one month since Andy left. The Antrim post was vacant for the past 6/7 weeks. I would fully expect Meath to have the position filled in the next 2/3 weeks. If Colm O'Rourke is interested in the role, I would expect him to get it. He is the standout candidate among the internal options and he would be able to surround himself with the best people possible. Eamon Fitzmaurice is just not a runner. Could Cian O'Neill be tempted to come in as coach with Meath? BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 998 - 13/07/2022 09:41:10 2431782 Link 1 |
Joe, asking as I don't really know but where's Cian O'Neill based? He's a great trainer/ coach so I'd back him being brought in if he was interested.

Based in Cork. Travelled to Kildare for a couple of years and has travelled to Mayo in the past. Donie Buckley could be another option. Or perhaps closer to home, could Declan Darcy be tempted to come in as coach under O'Rourke?

Cork as far as I know. But not afraid to travel by the looks of it. Although would be hard to see him leaving a team like Galway for Meath.

Thanks Joe and blackspot, think he's originally from Kildare and given all the counties he's been involved with hard to pinpoint where he was located. think he's worked in UL and CIT so the Cork thing makes sense. Agree re Donie Buckley and Declan Darcy being considered if they are open to being involved. Sound them out regardless of who is coming in unless they have their own top quality trainer already involved. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 13/07/2022 11:59:52 2431826 Link 5 |
Ive heard Donie Buckleys name mentioned already but as part of another candidates team.

Slight update. Flynn would still seem to be the fav. Along with geraghty. But nothing concrete as yet. Hard to know but a lot of the top people mentioned don't seem to be interested. You'd have the wonder did the impact of the vile abuse of Andy and his family have a negative effect on who might take over. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 14/07/2022 13:53:45 2432058 Link 1 |
We will never be that desperate though to stoop that low.

Stoop that low... Wow, no wonder so many of the Dubs living in this county feel unwelcome with attitudes like this and don't get involved in local communities. Glad that you don't speak for the majority on here. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 14/07/2022 14:26:16 2432066 Link 13 |
What about your own abuse aimed at the players?

Pardon me, not interfering in your discussion, just a point of information re Cian O'Neill, yes he is a Kildare man, he played his football with Moorefield until a back injury ended his playing career.

Cheers LilywhiteGael, you're not interfering at all and welcome along. I'd seen that info on Wikipedia, but as I'm sure you know yourself that can sometimes be as reliable as some punters who I won't name on this forum. He's a great coach/ trainer, maybe not the best manager but definitely wouldn't be out of place with any top class inter county set up as he's shown time and again. I think himself and Paul Kinnerk are two of the best in gaelic games.

The lad saying Philly McMahon is clearly winding people up. He's fitness coach with Bohs and is still playing full forward for Ballymun. Joint management team of Philly, Eoghan o'Gara and Johnny Cooper would go down well in Meath. royal11 (Meath) - Posts: 102 - 14/07/2022 15:56:09 2432096 Link 4 |
Absolutely not. Every manager gets abuse. Where is the attraction to taking over Meath? A manager will get a 3 year team. No chance to win Leinster in those 3 years. Will they succeed and get league promotion? They chances are no. Throw in the way the county board handled Andy's ratification last year. I'd say those things would have a more negative effect on who might take over. As I said before, we're living in fairyland if we think the likes of Fitzmaurice would come up here

You need to stop this whinging about a few nasty comments. Any top manager isnt going to entertain these idiots. And if they do they arent a strong enough character imo. Plenty of abuse flying about directly at managers before the internet so par for the course i am afraid. Not saying its right but its life
