No, I'm not saying there's no link, there is and that's clear. I'm saying that there's no guarantee's of success based on minor/ underage success as i highlighted.

Also that a successful minor team doesn't mean anything, you might only get 1 player from that team as a senior player, whereas a team with no success could provide multiple multi year starters.

Yes you'll get teams like the 90 and 92 minor wining teams that will backbone a team, bit doesn't ensure success unless those players all develop and have the drive and determination to make the best of themselves.

From my own age cohort 1998 minors were knocked out first round in the championship by Dublin, Laois won Leinster. in 2001 when that group was U21 the Leinster final was Meath v Dublin which Meath won. So in 3 years a minor team who got to an all ireland final couldn't get to a Leinster final and a team that was knocked out in the first round at minor won the provincial title. I accept that's an example but things can change in a couple of years and it's about bringing through the players to the senior team.

We won Leinster minors in 2006, 2008 and 2018 and haven't won an U21/20 since that team in 2001. There's no guarantees. Laois won 6 Leinster minor titles between 1996 and 2007 and you'd hardly say that Laois maximised on that with 1 Senior title.

right , so you are saying that underage success doesn't Guarantee Adult success...But would you maybe add...that without underage success of some sort...you can guarantee that there will never be adult success?

Yeah I think that's fair Longwood, that's what i was indicating. Teams just don't appear from nowhere. You need a certain amount of it to give you a base but i wouldn't be blasting an underage team and saying everything is fudged. Wining one year doesn't mean you'll challenge the next year.

Another poster mentioned there were players back from last years squad but i think McWeeney was the only starter, so this years team might've just been a weaker bunch which happens. We've no entitlement to win and other counties can have a great batch. Look at Offaly winning U20 last year, and i think they've 7 players back but you wouldn't say they're favourites to win the U20 championship and they might not even get of Leinster.

im just hoping that we used some Learnings form the 2021 experience into the 2022 set up...ie we layered up as best can be...if we did that and the end result is what we now have, that im fine by that....but if we did our usual, and we treated each set up as an individual Silo....well then we will get what we have got in the past..Im hoping this was a blip...a set of unfortunate Game situations...and next year we are back succeeding in getting out of the round robin ...that has to be our minimum standards

There was only one regular from 2021 carried over which was probably significant enough and 3 subs which were unused, in contrast last years all ireland winning team had 4 players who featured prominently in the previous years leinster winning team, that experience alone would be important. Out of interest anyone know how many players carried over from this years squad in to 2023?

Well done to the minors on regrouping and winning their 3 games in the shield competition fairly easily. It's hard to know what to read into it because it's the first year of the competition but maybe it indicates that this group wasn't as bad as the championship suggested and that they were just unlucky to lose out in 2 1 point games in the first 2 group games
