Mark Cronin and Brian O’Driscoll combined for a dozen points as Cork defeated Limerick by 0-24 to 0-13 at the TUS Gaelic Grounds to advance towards the semi-finals of the Munster senior football championship.
The result means the Rebels will face holders Kerry at Páirc Uí Chaoimh two weeks from today for a place in the southern province’s decider, while Limerick are now bound for the Tailteann Cup.
The visitors held a 0-7 to 0-6 after 20 minutes and the points of Paul Walsh, O’Driscoll and Brian Hurley stretched their advantage prior to a Cronin free from outside the arc making it a double scores game.
The half-time score would go on to read 0-16 to 0-7 in favour of John Cleary’s side and Colm O'Callaghan’s point two minutes into the restart made it a 10-point game.
Ace attacker James Naughton pulled back a few scores for the Treaty men, who had saw Seán Clancy sent off in the 24th minute, but they never looked like pulling off the upset here as the points of Matty Taylor, O’Callaghan, Cronin (free) and Chris Og Jones closed out a comfortable opening championship victory for the Leesiders.
