Kilkenny came from seven points down to see off All-Ireland champions Clare by 0-23 to 0-21 in Ennis and ensure a winning start in Division 1A of the Allianz Hurling League.

After David Reidy sent over the first two points of the contest, the Banner men moved towards a 0-9 to 0-2 lead after the opening quarter of an hour but Kilkenny battled back to leave it at 0-11 to 0-9 when the sides went in at the break.

Derek Lyng’s men would eventually hit the front in the 56th minute via Billy Drennan’s free, but the hosts got two ahead again thanks to scores from Keith Smyth (2) and Cian Galvin.

Back-to-back points by Martin Keoghan at the other end squared it up 0-20 each with three minutes left in normal time, and Drennan free would have the Leinster champions up by one heading towards the added minutes.

Paddy Donnellan squared things up for the Munster side ahead of Kilkenny finishing out with the points of Eoin Cody and Luke Hogan to open their league campaign with a hard fought win.
