Tipperary opened their Allianz Hurling League Division 1A campaign with an emphatic 12-point victory over Galway in Salthill.
It finished 3-25 to 2-16 at Pearse Stadium, where the home side bagged two late goals to take some of the tarnish off in this lopsided first round contest out west.
Darragh McCarthy’s penalty in the 11th minute saw Tipp into a 1-4 to 0-3 lead and they wouldn’t look back after that, as ‘Man of the Match’ Willie Connors, Andy Ormond and McCarthy added points that saw Liam Cahill’s charges towards a 1-13 to 0-9 interval lead.

Craig Morgan got the ball rolling again with a point early in the restart for Tipp and, while Galway got points back via Oisin Lohan and Kevin Cooney, they’d ship goals which saw the game over as a contest come the 50th minute.
Gearoid O’Connor fired in Tipp’s second major of the day before Dylan Walsh had the umpire reaching for the green flag again, leaving late goals from substitutes John Fleming and Declan McLoughlin as mere consolation in the end for the Tribesmen.
