Add 4 amalgamations to the 12 Senior teams . Something like west Cavan , mid Cavan , east Cavan and south Cavan. Form these teams of the best junior and intermediate players so as to give all good players at that level the experience of playing at a higher level. For example mid cavan could consist of teams like buttlersbridge belturbet drumalee. Something like that. It would mean all good players at these clubs had a chance of Senior football as well as their own competition. 16 teams , 4 groups of 4 and the top 1 in each group contest the Semi finals . Use scoring averages. Job done you'd have an exciting championship run off very quickly Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 30/08/2017 15:10:58 2040780 Link 0 |
Don't know how 4 amalgamations will work along with those teams playing in their own grade Intermediate and Junior. It might work in Kerry ,where those teams have pride in those areas ,East Kerry , West Kerry etc. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2832 - 30/08/2017 15:59:50 2040797 Link 0 |
Don't think the amalagation's would work. PatTheDandy (Cavan) - Posts: 356 - 30/08/2017 16:26:10 2040812 Link 0 |
The whole GAA scene in Cavan needs a total revamp and this should be lead by the County Board, but again, they dont care, they're only interested in making money and pumping it into a County Team that continues to fail year after year. Tell me, what good did the €50k GPS system do this year? absolutely nothing, why do you need to monitor the distance a lad covers, you need to monitor how he's plays football! cavanblueman (Cavan) - Posts: 636 - 31/08/2017 09:25:21 2041008 Link 0 |

Standout junior and intermediate players need s chance or a way to compete at a higher level within the club scene . Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 31/08/2017 12:38:30 2041114 Link 0 |

amalgamations won't work only at underage when there are a few small clubs struggling. If you combine two or three clubs there will be lads loosing out at first team and b level and the GAA will loose out as numbers will drop. It's bad enough as it it. Off course it's needed it will show the management those that are just making up numbers plain and simple maybe the new manager will now find out who want to be there and who as I said just want to make up numbers plain and simple. getting back on topic, I believe there was a draw after extra time in cootehill's playoff last night . Does that mean that if there is a positive result in the other match that there is no need for any more games to decide what 3 teams go through to the quarters . s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 03/09/2017 11:25:55 2042095 Link 0 |
Madness that the Ballinagh game will have to be replayed again, far too much waiting around for teams that realistically haven't a hope of winning it anyway, this championship structure is fine but score difference should have been used which might encourage teams to play a bit, Cootehill played with 12 defenders and 2 attackers against the Gaels. There should be a rule in GAA that when teams are level after extra time the referee should throw the ball in once more and the first team to score wins. That would make too much sense though. Yes ,Ballinagh or Cootehill will have had six games played before, they even reached a quarter final. Real survival of the fittest stuff, the cavan championship. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2832 - 03/09/2017 12:02:10 2042101 Link 0 |
That game should have been played to get a positive result last night - the losers still go through to the next stage of the play-offs anyway so both teams are still alive in the competition. Whats wrong with taking penalties anyway ? - Sorry - that would make too much sense as well. tenyearplan (Cavan) - Posts: 147 - 03/09/2017 14:04:19 2042147 Link 0 |
Yeah make up rules on the spot. Makes sense.

yes but it would have made more sense to treat the 2 playoffs as a mini-league. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 03/09/2017 14:34:46 2042152 Link 0 |
