Fermanagh V Cavan

I like to know these things.
I also don't like certain referees doing our games as they seem to give us nothing, particularly one from a neighbouring county.

Sorry didn't mean to be so blunt. I know who you mean but he has been good to us in as many as he has been bad. I don't buy into theories that refs have that much of an influence. Fans perceptions can be skewed at times

The Munster final Cork V Kerry is a perfect example of how a referee can make a B******S of a game.

I'd love to know the times when that referee has done us any favours Sceptical.

Great win tonight. Nine different scorers.

Good win. We're in a great position now in the league, does anyone know what the permutations are if we win our last two games? Are we up then?

Ned we need Derry to drop at least one point. If us and Derry finish on 10 they go up on head to head.

After today one will have a fair idea of permutations. Cavan have to play Galway and Laois and can get to 10 points should they win these matches Galway have 5 points and I think they are playing Tyrone today so if they loose this match and Cavan win the last two they will Finish ahead of Galway but should Tyrone and Derry finish level on points with Cavan they get promoted on the head to head as score difference will not apply as they beat Cavan. So lets see today's results and one will have a fair idea of permutations. But Cavan have to win their last two games to be in with a shout otherwise they are staying in Division 2 which is good for a lot were writing them off after their first two matches but it would be great to get promotion.

Another good win. Johnston getting a lot of praise for his performance and while deserved I'd like to also congratulate Ray Galligan, nailing frees, great kick outs and also now making important saves. Perhaps those that were saying to get rid of him might like to acknowledge this although they all seem to have stopped posting in the past few weeks. I'm sure they'll be back when we lose next.

Great win. Derry away to Laois today, home to Meath and away to Armagh. Can see them slipping up

Armagh have Mckeever back in team for the game today. They should have a few more back by the time they play Galway. But Cavan has to do the job in final 2 games.

Sean if Cavan Derry and Tyrone all finish level then it's points difference. Only head to head if only two teams on same points.

I've being saying since the McKenna cup Galligan is an excellent keeper. His ability to pick out a player 60 yards away is class. Also his handling installs confidence in a defence.

Well another great performance from Seanie last night he has definitely instilled confidence in this group of lads all looking for the ball and ll helping each other giving each other confidence. I have to say our goalie had the dream game ,he has come on a lot fair play to the lad. Terry Hyland must be commended as well as i had my doubts at the beginning of the year. Long may all this last and look forward to next two games

Good crowd in Brewster last night, hopefully we'll see the Cavan supporters come out in numbers now as the end of the league approaches and we have a chance at promotion.

To those that mentioned Galligan, agree entirely, he is easily our most improved player in the past 12 months, kickouts are superb and he is good at commanding those in front of him, he deserves a lot of credit for learning the ropes of a position he's not familiar with.

Gearoid is in terrific form, playing at centre forward is definitely his best position. SJ finished the goal superbly, once that went in Fermanagh were dead and buried.

I think we can win our last two games, but I'm baffled as to why score difference is not the deciding factor if two teams finish level on points. Surely that's what a LEAGUE is all about?

Ned, I would like to ask you a question. Do you still have the same opinion as this particularly poisonous post you wrote elsewhere on this forum.......

Disgraceful decision. Hang your heads in shame whoever is responsible for this obscenity. Cavan senior football has been one sorry episode this past two seasons, and the travesty continues. Based on the current downward trajectory, Hyland will have us relegated next year alongside the usual early Ulster and qualifier exit. He peaked in 2013 and has been living off the Derry match ever since. Promotion to division 2 was welcome, but championship is the yardstick, and his record is dismal.

I said it before, and I will reiterate the point again. Cavan GAA won't be getting another red cent from me until change is made, and I know plenty of other fans who aren't happy, all you had to do was gauge the reaction on social media. What we should have strived for was an outside proven manager to coach a solid bunch of players who have untapped potential. Is that too much to ask? Is it? Tipperary, Derry, Laois, Cork, all counties where the manager walked when things didn't work out. Why doesn't our man do likewise? We saw Ciaran Whelan call it as it is on the Sunday Game after the farcical Roscommon game. We haven't kicked on, the future is not blue, and we're ranked 8 out of 9 in our province. Now doesn't that seem familiar? Oh yeah, because that's exactly where we were when Hyland took charge.

As for the players, I firmly expect plenty more defections and there's not a hope of enticing the exiles back either I'd imagine. We're a laughing stock, Monaghan and Fermanagh both with proven outside managers and look at the incredible benefits it has brought them, we're insane in Cavan, doing the same thing again and again expecting a different result. If it's broke FIX IT, but no, this is the antithesis of common sense.

The paltry crowds will be even worse next year, we're doing serious untold damage to ourselves, you can't persist with a failed approach, I heard Cavan GAA enlisted the help of a group of businessmen to help them with their finances, perhaps we'd be better use them for personnel advice, when you have a project and the project leader isn't cutting the mustard, you change him.

Sentiment should have no place in decisions like this, localism first, Cavan football second.

Fredflint,

Get off that horse and see things realistically.

Cavan have changed tactics. Something many said said needed to happen. They have given up the total blanket defence and have started to move the ball a lot faster with less men behind the ball. Something many posters have been urging them to do and which many GAA commentators have remarked on. Defend well but break fast. It is now paying dividends.

Our recent success is down to the tactical change. We had the players there already and they were being held back.
Terry is now like St. Paul on the road to Demascus. He has seen the light.

Fred you need to apologise to Ned as he has been proved right. Cavan are now playing the way supporters wanted them to all along AND it has began to bring success and brighten up the lives of the Cavan supporters.

Firstly well done Fred on digging that post out. Lads like him need to be reminded of such charleton posts and maybe now he will discuss all the predictions he made. As for times when refs favoured us? Get real I have never been at a county game where the ref failed to give us at least one 50/50.

Yes Ned would you care to row back on some of your scathing comments? A few more below:

The reality is, nobody is going to hand us two points. You seem to think we'll miraculously pick them up somewhere, well, to borrow a phrase from your good self "LET ME TELL YOU", the Armaghs and Meaths of this world will give us nothing easy. There isn't one game remaining where we'd be confident of getting a win. Fermanagh perhaps, but they could easily surprise us as they have better forwards and arguably a better midfield. After years of underage promise we find ourselves fighting to retain second tier status and most people on this board are delighted with that. Strange mindset for apparent "fans".

Promotion is unattainable. It's beyond us now even though that was the aim before the league from a players perspectiver.

Ned_Stormcrow (Cavan) - Posts:867 - 08/02/2016 13:59:53

Slasher I can only assume your post above is based on the fact that you haven't been to a Cavan game in a year or more? Anyone that was at Cavan's League and Championship games last year couldn't possibly maintain that we were playing an excessively defensive style of football throughout!! It was a media blurb inspired by Joe Brolly and it appears it even caught on with the Cavan fans. It's a form of 'doublethink' to watch us rack up 3-53 in 3 Championship games last year and still somehow think Terry inspired this change at half time in the Meath game!!

Terry has not "seen the light".. There has been no massive change in focus, the personnel are slightly different, the team is clicking together well and they've found form. To say that when we win it's because Terry has "let the lads play" and when we lose it's because they've been instructed to play defensively is moronic, anyone who goes to the games on a regular basis and has two eyes and a brain in their heads can see this.

Very impressed with Cavan last night. Good side, very big and physical, very hard to break down. Mckiernan on the 40 looks like a beast of a player. One of the big differences for me last night was the two goalkeepers. Your's had laser like kick outs, Snow for us....well the less said about it the better. Of the three Ulster sides I have seen Fermanagh play in the league this year you look the best bet to win Ulster.

Slasher, Maybe you are Neds mammy answering for him? Anyway as I see it Terry spent his first two years solidifying the defence. You may remember we used to concede a lot of goals one time. The 2nd two years were designed to maximise defence to attack conversion. We were all disappointed that this didn't come to pass earlier but then again we were short a lot of forwards. It is however fair to say that the McHale experiment didn't work. It was at this time that the min wanted Terry's head. Finally we are seeing the improvement we all wanted but if think Terry just said "let's just start a tracking more" the Monday after the Derry game then you have a very poor grasp of coaching a team at this level.

Anyway, I was also wondering does Ned go to the games this year. He passes comment on them but he said he wasn't going to pay in while Terry was in charge so maybe he is scaling the fence to get in free?

Great win at Brewster Park last night. Big crowd but I would have to say that Traffic congestion afterwards was a nightmare. Sat in the car park at the Cinema for half an hour before moving. There appeared to be no traffic control and didn't see a PSNI officer all night. I tink the size of the crowd took them by surprise as there was big back ups to buy tickets.

Anyway Great win and I don't think Cavan played particularly well. I believe there's much more in the tank.
