Bit unfortunate having to play the last few minuets with 14 lad's after we had a player black carded and all our subs were used up, this did not help either. ???

I said this in a previous discussion regarding the Hastings Cup.
It was a closed shop. No open trials ! Clubs were not asked to forward players for consideration.
Where were the likes of Hendrix from Munter Connaught, McKiernan from Swad, Rehill from Mountnugent, McEnroe from castlerahan etc. Strong lads, excellent footballers
There are lots of other lads who were worth a look at but were not even considered or called for trials.

Cian McEnroe is over age. Some of players above might not have been able to comitt

Hi younger brother, was on the minors 2 yrs ago. Also Kiernan from Ballymacugh is a strong player. Saw him in action against us in minors 2 years ago.
As I said, the net was not cast. There were no open trials. Clubs were not asked to send players. Closed shop.

Ah yes the panel of 50 odd lads, including lads who had never played county football before and lads who had never met Niall Lynch before.. A complete "closed shop"....

I might have known that the rep for the county board would jump to their defence !!!!
As with minors last year, this is a missed opportunity simply because of blinkered vision by management.
Jon, in this case I know the facts in both incidences and know there were no open trials for u21's. Clubs were not asked to send players.
You can defend all you like but there was no open trals - FACT

You can think of me as a rep for common sense if you'd rather.

I'm aware of that FACT thank you. However, Cavan have not previously held open trials at U21 level and it didn't exactly do us any harm over the past 6 years.

You are calling for the same lads that weren't good enough for Minor last year to be on the U21 team a year later!
You claim to know more than Niall Lynch who has managed a lot of teams to titles.. once again on behalf of Cavan supporters I urge you to be a manager of a Cavan team at some level if you are indeed the hidden genius you claim to be

I am not knocking your assumption but the U21s were playing right up to the 22nd of December and I saw Mr Lynch at a lot of these matches in fairness to him, I also saw his two selectors at some of them. I cannot comment on wither he picked the best or not but he certainly got the opportunity to watch quiet a lot of players.

FrDougalMaguire (Cavan) has important points to make but as previous the county board establishment are out to rubbish any fair and future important comments.

FrDougalMaguire is absolutely correct instating that the county underage teams are selected on political grounds and closed shop rather than selecting the best players in the county for the better of cavan football.

Absolutely correct when stating that Cavan football has lost out on championships over the failure to select the best and current players on underage teams.

Why not have a look at all players at all age breaks and assess the player ability based on current year ability and performance rather than if they were a member of a political selected on development squads ?

I get really annoyed & disappointed when the establishment present themselves time after time to disrupt any reasonable debate in relation to Cavan football and all you have to do is look back over the thousands of comments that some of the establishment guys make.

The sooner that we open all county panels to, all county cavan players the better and regardless of the club, politics, development squad relationships, & even personnel relationships, the better.

Well I am not a member of anything involving the county board and I do have to bite my tongue because of what I do. I made my last post in defense of Mr Lynch stating he was at most of the U21 matches but regarding the selection of players I too wonder from time to time what do they see but thats all I can do is wonder. When one posts as an alias his or her post really has no foundation at all so really if one has a gripe attend the AGM go to your club meetings and voice your grievance it's the only way until you come out and say who you are then and only then should anyone really listen to you. Name the players one feels are left out because of their caste status it's the only way.

Regardless of who was picked for the panel, the game was lost along the line, Tyrone were there for the taking but management failed to grasp the opportunity. There was one/two lads on the bench that could have started, but it was the same old story with Cavan Football, defend, defend. We started very brightly, we let the ball do the work and we had Tyrone on a rack, but sadly, we went back into our shell again.
We've seen it over the last 5 years with the seniors, defensive football does not work, and thankfully, we are now playing a brand of football that is enjoyable and we are also notching up the scores.
Plenty of talent in Cavan, its developing it with a good brand of attacking football that will make is successful.

Of course it's the management's fault. Niall Lynch bringing himself on and kicking 16 wides himself was a poor move. Lynch out.

It's great to be back to the present 2010 era in Cavan. All Star Teams at every level, management the cause of every loss.

I'm far from an expert, but always amazed how simplistic some people are on here. "Play like this, pick these players, win every match" Is the jist of every post.

Jonsmith - Dougalmaguire was right, all you do is jump to the defence of the County Board rather than come with anything good to say.
Any man worth his salt knows that Cavan were defensive on Wednesday night, the 16 wides that you talk about - how many of those were kicked from distance? Also, why on earth did our goalkeeper have to come out of goals to take 30 yard free kicks, surely, any good manager who (supposedly) attended all these U21 games would have seen Mattie McKenna and David Brady kicking frees at their ease for their respective clubs.

Then again, I suppose it wasn't Lynch's fault either that we used up all our subs and had to play with 14 men when we got a black card...surely a good manager would leave a couple of subs spare for those circumstances?

The county board? Where have I mentioned the county board anywhere? I'm standing up for the management. The management is not then county board.

Ah yes leave a couple of subs on the bench when the game is slipping away. Had he not emptied the bench I can guarantee you that you'd be slating him for being too slow to act.

Genuine question here and I'm trying for some reasoned discussion. When was the last time in your view that Cavan lost an underage game simply because the other team was better?

Jonsmith - Its either funny or coincidence, but you've also stood up for the senior management despite the failures over the last few years.

Are you telling me that Tyrone were the better team last week, and that Niall Lynch could have done nothing along the line to change things to win the game? Also, I'm sorry, but to make 6 subs with 10/15 mins of a game left is beyond comprehension. To have a goalkeeper taking 30 yard frees when you have plenty of talented free takers on the pitch is ridiculous.

Specsavers are doing deals at present JonSmith but I'm not sure of it includes blinkered vision !!!
I've never seen anyone so blinkered in their views. The Deanmartin and Fr Dougal are making very valid points here.
Sure there are times when we lost because the other team was better. In fact it happens in most games, but have you considered that the other team was better because we could have had a better team on the field.
You really need to get out more, take a cold hard look at whats happening. All is not as rosy as you think Jon.
Favouritism exists at all levels. There are stories of underage management laughing and joking with some players and barely giving others the time of day.
I agree with the posters that their should be open trials at all levels and every player given a fair chance. Take off the rose, sorry blue tinted glasses and open your eyes.

One thing is for sure, when a Cavan team are bet you'll find Deanmartin will be there to kick them when they are down. When a Cavan team win he will be very quiet hence he's here posting and nothing to say on the Fermanagh thread. Over on his FB page he was saying that Lynch was a great manager a few weeks ago.

It's beyond belief that people come on here slating young lads, telling them they weren't good enough and shouldn't have been on the panel, that they weren't good enough to be involved but for some "politics" that worked in their favour to get them involved, lads who have given up 4 months of their lives to work hard and play for Cavan and then seen that all go in vain after the defeat... Frankly it's disgusting. Have a good hard look at yourselves. I'll leave it there as I don't want to fuel any more diatribe directed at the young players of Cavan.
