Hyland to continue with Cavan

That's right Sean66, we should over throw the current Irish government, democratically elected with a large majority just because you say so. Maybe put Sean66 in power as he knows best. It's been tried before Sean - see Germany 1940s, North Korea Etc. an excellent analogy there by your good self. Forget elections, put sean66 and the rest of the cranks in control

So Forde is gone, it has been confirmed. There were rumours all right. Maybe this was the only way Terry could be ratified for the last year.

Anyway, a breath of fresh air will do no harm - it's a chance to bring in someone with a view to promoting them to the main job in 12 months. Not sure if that's a good thing as a top county manager probably won't want to be number 2 to anyone (i think the Jason Ryan situation was the only recent case of this happening).

A lot of people mentioned Ciaran Whelan as potential manager and I have said on another Thread that I wouldn't take him on without experience. Maybe this could be a way to introduce him to management??

What I'd like to see is Peter Reilly given the selector role to introduce the players he has managed at u21, with a high profile manager coming in next year and Peter remaining as selector.

Peter reilly would certainly be a fairer selector picking on merit

No harm bringing in someone like Ciaran Whelan as a selector however I would be very reluctant to hire him as manager. There is a huge difference in the Cavan and Dublin set up's and the infrastructure of the 2 counties is not comparable. Anyway, we know we have a manager for this year so we can park that.

I think that if we look outside Cavan then we should look at someone who can spend the time looking at players and surely we need someone who knows the players in Cavan to a reasonable extent. Terry is quoted as saying "we will sit down and see" and "there is no need to panic". I'm all for taking time to make the correct appointment HOWEVER we are now in championship time and surely a selector should be looking at players playing competitively in the Cavan championship. Terry can't be everywhere at once. If we go down the route of bringing in an outsider and it happens in November/December time as there is "no panic" then are they just going to go along with whoever Terry has looked at and drafted into the squad?

Where did the name Ciaran Whelan Come out off??? I doubt he'd leave the comfy chairs in RTE just yet esp for a job in Cavan.!!

Finbarr Reilly could be a good choice but I would not go for Peter Reilly if the deplorable way he had the U-21 team playing...far too negitive and woefull to watch... Even if nobody comesin its still a positive move...!!

Terry should have gone with Forde.
The whole set-up has gone stale.
Neither were up to the job.

Whelan's name is being thrown around because he is very prevalent in the media and it is clear to see he knows the modern game inside out. He will be snapped up by some county in the next 2-3 years if he wants to go into management. Why would he leave RTE for Cavan? because that's the step into management he might just be looking for.

Interesting to hear Colm Parkinson on Newstalk the other evening lambaste the Laois county board for "taking the easy option" in looking for a manager, and that he would have loved to see Liam McHale get the job! I don't think there are many in Cavan who would want McHale as manager?? His impact has been questionable to say the least.

I really like the idea of Peter Reilly as selector for a year under Terry then for 2-3 years under an experienced intercounty manager.

If people want an outside manager who has a knowledge of the club scene in Cavan, there are more than you might expect. Joe Kiernan is one, Mickey Harte another - don't think either of those would be interested but given the success at underage level, there is certainly plenty of people who would relish the chance to manage Cavan.

You'll have to explain to me how Mickey Harte and Joe Kiernans have knowledge of Cavan club football.

Harte named "Conor Smith of Cuchullains" as the best young player in Ulster a few years ago - not of Cavan, of Cuchullains.

I have sat a few seats from Joe Kiernan at 2 cavan club games in Breffni, one Mullahoran v Gaels, one Gowna v Gaels. And at McKenna Cup games in which Armagh weren't involved (after his time as Armagh manager).

We all know those guys who will go to just about any GAA match that is on on a given day. Kiernan seems to one of those guys.

Fried Flint your like a broken record making a case for hyland . Let's chat about Terry's Ulster championship record. U think its good enough? After all the Ulster championship is what it is all about and in my opinion Terry's record is not good enough. End of. Now you can be as pro Terry all you like but the one shinning light is next year will be his last year yipeeeeee! And he will leave us where he found us in Div 3.

I see Mchale is gone now aswell.big savings for the CB.the wheels are falling off Terry's management team.if he had any love for cavan football he would follow in the steps of Forde and Mchale.

Just a point on his Ulster Championship record . Lost to Ulster and All Ireland Champions - Lost twice to Ulster Champions . The only no show was the game against Armagh last year . He has had what you would call one very good year in Championship , got us promotion and survival in Division 2 and raised the bar a bit . Anyone who keeps going on about failure at Ulster Championship level or "setting Cavan football back 10 years" has either a personal vendetta against him , is off their rocker or has the memory of a goldfish .
Personally I think he is ok but lost a bit of time for him this year with some of his decisions . Could have stayed , could have left - in any case seeing as he got the job for another year I will judge him on performances and results next year . However I don't think it was a particularly outrageous decision by the CB to leave him at it for another year and I find the reaction it has caused to be extremely embarrassing . People need to grow up .

I'd say mchale wants to go back.. heard locally that he had an awful time with the selector that just left also (forde), I heard he was unable to implement any changes. I would guess he would like to go back to help the cause.

Well if McHale is gone this will be brilliant news I hope McGrath follows him for I cannot see what they have to offer Cavan. I am sorry however that A. Forde has left us.
