Banty for Cavan??

Replying To theDagger1986:  "Jayo is NOT the man for the Cavan job. The Gaels players would tell you this themselves. Cavan Gaels have a panel of 30 lads chomping at the bit to get into the starting team, they have more quality than anyone else. In fact I think there is so much more that could be got out of them.
If we appoint Jayo we are gonna have another long two years"
From what i hear jayo is not the front runner. Another former player is odds on for the job at the moment

Few names mentioned to me yesterday for the Cavan job
Aiden O'Rourke Armagh
Stephen Poacher Down
D. McCabe
M.Graham but in that conversation he said that Maybe he will take the longford job if offered it.
J O'Reilly
John Brady
Peter Reilly with Downes.
K. Downes the man that brought the U20 team to Donegal and got hammered by 20 points, same Donegal team got beat by Derry the next round a few months back. Can you imagine him as our senior manager.
Terry Hyland but he has gone to Leitrim so that rules him out.

I'm not exactly bursting with enthusiasm reading that list.

I suppose Poacher would be the best of them, he's done a solid job with Carlow. Perhaps he might just be the man to bring us forward, he boosted Carlow's self belief, I think thats what we need in a manager. I hear he's in for the Down job though, so he more than likely won't be the new man for us.

If the County Board are going to shop local then in my view the job has to be offered to Peter Reilly.

Are you ready for ultra defensive setups and would you be happy with that?

You don't think a coach can evolve his style?

Btw- yesterday the swashbuckling saviours of football Dublin had 15 men inside their own 45 on numerous occasions.

It's not about being defensive, it's about quick effective transition to attack when you win the ball

I thought Peter Reilly was no longer in for the Job.

I suspect that Peter Reilly is no different to Declan Bonner, if he feels that he has the talent to win playing a more expansive style then that is what he will do. He managed the county to two under 21 titles and was very unlucky not to win one of the semi finals against Cork and then Dublin.

As stated previously I have a preference for a proven candidate from outside the county but if Peter is the choice then i will support him and you won't have me on the forum after a McKenna Cup defeat in January looking for his head! i would also have been quite happy if the previous manager served another term.

I am by no means certain that their will be a breakthrough if the players who signed up in 2016 return to the squad. It may require the introduction of Pierson, Madden and their like from the under age teams to push us forward.

Best of luck to Monaghan today!

Yes I agree that the new man will have to bring in the pick of the 2015 and 2017 minor teams as we're likely to lose Mackey Johnson and M Reilly in the near future.

Best of luck to TYRONE later, c'mon the red hands. I don't want noisy neighbours.

I see on the paper that Aidan O Rourke is in for the job with Stephen Poacher, Mike McGurn and an ex Cavan player on his team. Looks an impressive enough team.
Also in are Mickey Graham with Dermot McCabe.
Jason and Peter are no longer in the running for the manager position.

That would be a decent coaching ticket all right. Seems strange to me though that Poacher would leave Carlow to go and be a number two - maybe he's had enough of the travel. I'd be trying to get Tony McEntee involved too now he's left Mayo.

He must feel that it is better to be number 2 in Cavan than in Carlow.

3 candidates left in the race according to Paul Fitzpatrick's article in the Irish Examiner this morning. Mickey Graham, Michael McDermott of Ramor and Aidan O Rourke.

County Board seem to be favouring a cavan man so that would rule O'Rourke out. Anybody know who is on the Graham & Mc Dermott tickets?

If McDermott gets it I give up. Big step backwards and would defiantly not entice players to come back.

At least D McCabe is not mentioned. Give me McDermott anytime above McCabe and those of you that don't know the man he is a respectful individual well disciplined and I am sure he would bring in the quality regardless of what club they are from.
I 100% favor an outsider O'Rourke Poacher even Banty.

If local give me John Brady and John Young anytime bring in Mark McKeever and Dessie Brady as selectors .
