5 goals conceded in the 2 games and haven't looked like scoring a goal.

Meath looked hungrier than us today, they were better on the 50 50 balls, were more direct and were more accurate. Conceding 3 goals sank us completely, we had 3 goal chances by my count, we didn't nail one. We were lateral and ponderous at times. Meath won the midfield battle too

Terrible performance…. Everything we did was at a snails pace..: We were completely cleaned out in midfield and needlessly gave away possession on numerous occasions…. The goalkeeper wandering up the field is just nauseating and then when he was replaced O Donnell was shocking… the 3rd goal was nothing short of embarrassing… Unless huge improvements are made Division 3 beckons….!

He made little impact fog the last couple of years he played county so I can't see how he will be any better now… Is he trying to be Cavans version of Michael Murphy I wonder… Are the new rules having an influence here too… When he was younger and playing at full forward they would never kick the ball into him and now they bring him back to possibly play the same position ( well like Murphy he's hardly expected to play any other position )…. We wish him well but it's a poor reflection on our young talent available when himself and Nevin O Donnell returning to the senior panel are seen as major positives for the new season…."
He looked very slow when he came on yesterday. I know he kicked a couple of 2 pt's but they were not the most difficult with a wind on your back. The new rules have put more mobility demands on players and unfortunately not sure if NcKiernan fits that mould. What we're the other panel changes yesterday? Who else was on the bench from the forwards. Lovett kicked very well in fairness even for a little guy, he looks like a potent threat.

Lovett did well with his frees but caughed up possession the first 4 balls that were kicked into him… He is young and plenty of potential and kept us somewhat in the game until half time with his frees… Mc Kiernan would not be the quickest at the best of times but kicked 3 of those silly 2 pointers…

Who should be named Goalkeeper for Cavan given the unique role that has emerged?
Needs to have an accurate kick out, able to be a playmaker in the opposition half, vocal and get back quickly to defend when a move breaks down. Needs to be mobile and comfortable in possession.
There must be a few leading candidates

Big G for the Goals, get him up playing like Beggan. And for the love of god play Holla wing back and get Mac A Veety and Oisin Kiernan up into the forwards quick.

Hard to hear you all the way down there at the bottom of the table.... don't forget to celebrate the "We beat Monaghan this year" trophy of 2023

Vetern's back - obsessing as ever about Cavan GAA. Even had a go at our hurlers a while back.

There's a similar user over on Twitter called @kingoftheding89 - could be a twin. Obsessed with Arva & Knockbride being Division 1 league teams - tweets at Official Cavan GAA with thoughts on this.

Also very keen on Tesla, Bitcoin, Musk & Trump - didn't realise they were mining bitcoin in the stony grey soil or that you would see many Teslas around the United parishes.

If it keeps them happy .....

Good question. There must be lads around the county that would suit this role. Watching Ethan Rafferty at the weekend for Armagh - someone with height, power, athletic and good kicker - could be a game changer

That's if the new rules stay, which hopefully they won't

Big game in two weeks, I'd fancy us to beat Louth. Will there be changes to the team ?

For all the giving out the Meath lads did about O'Rourke, he built a decent group of young players there, and they have added players like Menton and the corner back looks a good player.

Suiting the role is one thing but being a good shot stopper is important. Rafferty is an average shot stopper but gives them an outlet out the field. Nevin O Donnell looked very average in nets for Leitrim but was an outlet on attacks.

Having watched the two games I feel like we are in real trouble. Tactically inept, haven't adjusted to the new rules at all- I for one hope they keep some of the changes. Not overly surprised we aren't lighting the world on fire in terms of scoring as most of the best forwards in the county aren't on the panel any longer. Brady, the two Reilly's all stepped away this year. Having heard last year that some of them were not getting game time for "shooting too much"- I can't blame them.
The core of the team are now over 30 and bringing McKernan back is a step in the wrong direction in my opinion (not taking away from the fact that he has been an outstanding servant to the county). The team we have has been systematically coached to play a defensive brand of football over the past 10-15 years and clearly aren't coping well with the rule changes opening things up.

Bringing in a 32 year old keeper that never really featured in underage football at a county level in to replicate a Rafferty is simply madness. I honestly don't think it's fair to even ask the lad to play that role.

It's just more of the same from a management perspective.
Same names, same tactics, same results.

Nor on Twitter but we all need a bit of a laugh occasionally.

Having confidence to pontificate on subjects he has no knowledge of is an admirable trait even if everyone is laughing at him.

Many people called for Mickey Grahams head, despite the fact that he made us competitive again and brought the Anglo-Celt home after 30 years. Raymond wasnt the man for the job, he had very little or no managerial experience and it was totally wrong to give him the job. Graham had that little more experience and was able to get that little bit more out of arguably a limited group of players and now Galligan's in-experience is starting to show, having said that, there's a lot of experienced players on that panel but unfortunately, they keep making the same errors over and over again. McKiernan shouldnt have been brought back in,, his legs are gone and there's a few more players on that panel who no longer have the legs for the new rules, this was pretty apparent against Monaghan and Meath. Cavan are in trouble and best case scenario is to try and remain in Division 2, but given what we have and whats coming through, Division 3 is a very strong likelihood for a number of years. One thing that needs to be reviewed is the underage structure in Cavan Football, there has to be a very vaild reason why we are not producing the calibre of other top Counties.
