Div 2 reserve would still be more appropriate that div 3 reserve. Glad to see you agree that they shouldn't be in Div 3 reserve.

Munterconnaught man here. TheMackAttack (Cavan) - Posts: 6 - 01/05/2024 23:19:24 2542357 Link 2 |
Why is yer man saying they had 20 players available? It's bad form if he's from a neighbouring club and simply taking the chance to run a club trying to survive down.

I'm not sure to be honest. I can only speak for the game I was in attendance at. TheMackAttack (Cavan) - Posts: 6 - 03/05/2024 13:07:03 2542641 Link 0 |
Any stand out teams or performers across the 3 divisions, now that it's semi final time and only a few weeks from championship. wishfulthinkin (Cavan) - Posts: 1720 - 15/07/2024 06:47:07 2559179 Link 0 |
What's the opinions on this farcical situation at the bottom of Div 1 as regards relegation play offs.. Lacken conceding their last league game has thrown the whole thing into a mess…! ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 3057 - 15/07/2024 15:04:35 2559312 Link 0 |
Obviously I'm not a Cavan man, but I have family from there so I try to keep up with the club scene. Ciaran359 (Galway) - Posts: 16 - 22/07/2024 16:14:25 2560694 Link 0 |
You are correct our reserve teams play in separate divisions from 1st teams….. A few years ago they went with the mixed league like you have and they have in Dublin but discontinued it after a couple of years for some reason… As regards the Championship all teams ( say senior ) are in the one division… a draw is made after every round ( obviously you can't draw the same team twice ) and after 4 rounds the team that is on top play the 8th place team in the Q-finals and so on… The bottom 4 teams play off for relegation.. The same applies in Intermediate and Junior with obviously no relegation matches in junior…. It makes for a bit of extra excitement as you don't know who you are playing until after each round….I hope this in some way explains how it's done

Wait till you hear about their Div 1 teams playing Junior championship …

It does, thank you! How many league games does each team play? Do they play everyone, or is it the same as the championship? Did the few year of the mixed league work better or worse than the current system? What happens in the case of a 2nd team in the reserve league who are miles ahead of everyone else? Can they move into the regular divisions? Would not doing so limit their development? For example, in Galway, Corofin's 2nd team are at the top of division 3, and compete against intermediate teams. They also play in the intermediate championship. Ciaran359 (Galway) - Posts: 16 - 23/07/2024 09:52:16 2560818 Link 0 |
I've heard a bit about that with Arva. I honestly don't think it's an issue, if they are separate competitions. In Galway, the league is played without county players, so the best teams in the league aren't necessarily the best when it comes to championship and all teams are at full strength. In fact the 3 championship winning teams last year of the senior, lntermediate and junior all played div 1 football.. make of that what you will. This year the favourites for junior champ are div 1… clearly a broken system

Don't be replying to that…. he just hates Cavan football… Monaghan never won anything major and he just can't hack it… another ORIELMAN from that area is the same… delusional

Division 1/2/3 are pretty evenly spread with 12/14 league games played…one round only.. The promotion and relegation setup is a bit silly and leads to controversy like this season but that's almost impossible to explain here… There are 3 reserve leagues as well but the winners of reserve league 1 doesn't get promoted to the regular league… I can't say why they discontinued the mixed leagues to be honest.. Years ago the first and second teams played fixtures against the same opponents on the same day in a double fixture which I always thought was a good idea logically but that's changed now too.. I think it might be to facilitate clubs with tight numbers so that players didn't have to play 2 games one after another which is fair…. I remember doing that on multiple occasions in the old days but that can't happen anymore which is maybe a good thing… I hope this helps your curious mind somewhat and the best of luck at the weekend…. One can ( in my case ) only imagine the excitement in an All Ireland final build up…. Enjoy

They discontinued mixed leagues because Maghera (the only first team ever relegated to Division 4) lodged a motion reversing the mixed league approach. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5200 - 23/07/2024 20:02:57 2561068 Link 1 |

Veterngaa/Tom, your own club Scotstown operate a transfer system that would make Man City blush. On top of that, your superclub assimilated its neighbouring parishes. Youd be better served chatting to Mrs T about Scotstown's chances of winning an Ulster or whether they need to look beyond the 'parishes', or maybe even Monaghan, again for players to strengthen the squad.

Would it not have been for the best to be the end of them..they are only a few minutes from Munterconnaght and don't really contribute much to Div 3 or Junior Championship.

Well it would be sad for any club to loose their identity or fold….

So a team who doesn't pick up a single point the whole season in the league survives relegation… what sort of a nonsensical system is that…? ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 3057 - 24/07/2024 23:12:25 2561371 Link 0 |
