Replying To Breffini1967:  "Super performance from Cavan when it counted yesterday. When the pressure came on, goals were needed. Really came out on top in the forwards in the second half. Delighted for players and management. Stood tall!

Sets the team up well for Tyrone now. Terrible record against the Red Hands over the years, a last win in Championship been in 1983. Can anyone confirm where the Tyrone game will be? It was mentioned on Sunday Game that the game will be in Omagh, but if memory serves correctly, after Cavan winning a preliminary match away, the winner of preliminary game, is at home next day? Can anyone confirm this?"
It's in breffni on the 21st

Reason we won the game yesterday was Faulkners decision to go for goal when 9 players out of 10 would have been happy with a point form the position he was in and the number of defenders in front of him. How often have we seen Cavan players in much better positions take the handy point and end up losing the game afterwards. If faulkner takes a point we probably end up losing this game as it gave the team tremendous confidence entering the last few minutes.

41 years since we beat them and that was Breffni park too…Martin Lynch with 7 points that day.. I wonder how many times have we actually played them at home in the Ulster Championship since 1983…? Can anyone enlighten…? It might be our time again with another Lynch on frees this time…!!!

I did think back to Brian O'Connell's point when we went behind again late on. Felt we may have been punished.
In fairness to him, he had just run the length of the field at full pelt and was being closed down.

Probably he took the right decision…. wrong player in that position at that time… he was looking to off load it so he obviously wasn't confident enough to go for goal… he did the right thing

Just getting time now for a few thoughts. Jeez but what a win that was on Sunday. Had a feeling we'd sneak a win, and the best thing is that we have turned our form right around and League is now very far in the rear view mirror. That's the season opening up before us, and no reason we can't go at Tyrone and then the group stage of the All ireland and go from there.

The best thing about it is we did it while missing players like Clarke, mcVeety, and McLoughlin, yet we got into the pace of the game quickly and managed things very well. Bar a few stretches and some missed shots we managed time very well. 2 down at half time in that wind was near a result in itself. I text someone saying we'd take that as it was more a 2 point wind as it proved. It was also interesting to hear Galligan say that they chose to go against the wind v Armagh which absolutely backfired. Clearly with some players back from that game and from learning our lessons we were able to keep things tight, waste time, and break to win frees which Lynch was then exceptional from. If there's anything to take from a bad loss it's to learn from it and make it right when it matters.

Worked that 2nd half very well in not killing ourselves 3rd quarter but staying in it, picking off chances and then taking the game when it was there. Our match ups worked, and while it was poor to give 1-2 away and not score for near 10 minutes after the Faulkner goal and O'Connell point, we didn't panic and did the job. That last goal was just unreal

We had so many good performances all over the field. Lynch and Faulkner - what more can you say there. Gerry Smith rapidly turning into one of our most important players. Gunner class, Carolan and Holla too, O'Connell and Cian Reilly really good games. Oisin Brady maybe needs to grab a few more scores but overall worked very hard and had a good game for me. O'Rourke rapidly growing into a brilliant keeper. The 2 Maddens had good moments (Cians pass to Lynch first half unreal) but do need to be more involved. Overall I'd be nitpicking at others - near everyone had good games without going through every single player.

The crowd was very disappointing. Lot of factors at play - weather, soon after League, ticket prices, on tv, other events on. It's still disappointing. Thought we'd travel the short trip better than that. The only thing is maybe those who stayed away are back to Breffni in a few weeks. We owe Tyrone more than one, but I'd take this one. Last time we played in Breffni in Championship vs them we won. In fact we've never lost to them in Breffni in championship. get some lads back from injury, hope Smith is ok, and let's go at them.

I heard that Paddy Lynch did his ACL and is most definitely out for the season sadly. Terrible news for Cavan and Paddy.

A good opportunity to see who's capable of stepping up. Not gonna win the all Ireland so use the games to find a few players who can score from play.

An unfortunate injury for Paddy but an opportunity now for someone to step up and deliver the scores… Wishing Paddy a speedy and perfect recovery…

So Lynch out is confirmed. A big loss. Best wishes to the lad and hope he recovers well and comes back strong. No reason he wouldn't be back for mid League next year

Now need a few lads to step up. Oisin Brady has been playing well and threatening to break out. Cotmac O'Reilly has been good recently too. Need those lads to take this one now and show we've more than one scoring forward. Will be good for us overall to have this

It's a tough one to take losing Paddy Lynch. Right now we all wish him a speedy and full recovery. The rest of the squad must now refocus and prepare for next week. Will it be Mcveety, James Smith, Tiernan Madden as the new focal point of our attack? We need to keep the spirit up. Cavan fans tend to have a boom or bust attitude. Maybe, wait and see how things develop. We're not hopeless without Paddy. He's a huge loss but we've a good squad there.

Draw on now folks. Go to link here

Very likely to get another Ulster team. Derry? Or repeat of Tyrone or Monaghan?

Dublin
Roscommon
Losers of Galway v Mayo

Could be worse. Could be better.

That's about as good a draw as you could hope for. Dublin a write off clearly, but Roscommon beatable, and we'd take a rattle at Galway if they lose Connacht final.

As far as I can make out, it'll be us away to Mayo/Galway on 18/19 May, home to Dublin/Louth on 1/2 June, and then neutral to Roscommon on 15/16 June.

What do people think of that draw ? You would have to be quite happy , Roscommon and Galway (likely runner up) are both very winnable games at the minute.
Good chance to test ourselves against the dubs too.
Lynch is a big blow but it's time for other lads to stand up and be counted now. Wouldn't be surprised if young Lovett is involved this summer.
