Best of luck to Raymond Galligan and his back room team on their appointment as Cavans new management team…. He will be a huge lose from a playing point of view but I guess it opens the door for someone else.. Hopefully we have a more enjoyable type of football to look forward to instead of the boring tripe we had to put up with for the last couple of years… ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 3057 - 23/08/2023 22:32:25 2502001 Link 0 |
Jim Mc has never lost a game his team were 1/10 favourites for tho. Gavin winning what he did with Dublin is akin to me or you taking on Celtic and claiming greatness when we stroll to another SPL. Says more about the shortcomings of Caffrey and Farrell that they didn't win more than they have over the last 2 decades. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5200 - 24/08/2023 00:09:08 2502002 Link 0 |
I am now accepting apologies. I told you the deadline was closed, applications were in and the choice of manager would come from the 4 names previously mentioned.

Very full of yourself, aren't you? Just because others didn't apply, didn't mean it was closed. The prior deadline was for nominations by the clubs. The Danny Hughes application came after that for example. And then McDermott pulled out. But that did not mean no more applications would have been accepted. And imagine going that far back for my comment. Living rent free in your head huh? How sad... Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2450 - 24/08/2023 09:48:00 2502011 Link 0 |
I talked and you didnt listen, I told you the new manager would come from the original applicants, there was never a doubt and I said it yesterday before the announcement that Galligan was the preferred option and a county board meeting at 8pm last night confirmed that.

Did I say it wouldn't come from them? I just said that the deadline stated was for club nominations only. As far as I am aware, other applications from outside would have been accepted after that date. Sure didn't Danny Hughes apply after that date? That was my point which you continue to miss

Can you not just get behind and support the manager now. It's not unusual for a player to go straight to management. sure McHugh did it with us when he was 34. Nothing to say a player cannot be a good manager. he has put a good backroom team together including high level coaches and others. Look outside your bubble and a lot of GAA people in the know are impressed with what he has put together. Support the man and his team

Ive been lurking on this for a while now and Loughduff Lad you seem to like to put a positive spin on all events. Im not sure why or if you people know who you are. but I have two comments for you lad. first. people are shocked and many are livid with the appointment going by the private messages i have recieved and read. you wont change that. its a big risk the Cb are taking . I know some who feel it undermines coaching badges and courses and experience and building a management cv. second. I agree with you on this one. he's appointed now so all we can do is row in behind him and his coaching team. I like to see eamonn murray in there and I think keaney will be big asset to him. there is some level of safety margin with the support he will get. I would be very happy to be proven wrong so good luck to him. Creilly_Baby (Cavan) - Posts: 41 - 24/08/2023 10:37:42 2502030 Link 0 |
Tell us then. . .what's Terry Hyland's role in the new setup?

It's such a Cavan thing to go completely negative on absolutely everything. I've taken my time to think on it and chew it out and see what it all means. I'm not always positive, but I just don't go for the nuclear negative option without first thinking about it which seems to be standard here. I'm not sure who your friends are, but I'm not seeing livid messages from my fiends, but at least intrigued that he went for the job and put that team together so he seems enthusiastic for it and wants the job. Do I think this is 100% positive, all sunlit uplands and all that? No. But I see a lot of reasoning and why it could work. We also have to see where we are as a county. Simply put we had 4 applicants, 1 pulled out leaving 3 who all had no inter county experience. Who were you honestly expecting? Jim Gavin? We honestly need to wise up as a county and see where we are and who we attract. And if Galligan is motivated enough to think he can come in and do a job here, then I'll support him. Like I would if it was someone else who got the job. Who says he hasn't his coaching badges or courses done? And who says he has to have had prior experience? Again, we see others do it, so why can't it work here? Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2450 - 24/08/2023 11:16:23 2502044 Link 0 |
lots of truth there. and a lad can harbour different thoughts without having to camp in one. if Longford can get paddy christie and louth can get mickey harte and wicklow can get oisin mcconville why shouldnt cavan fans have that level of expectation off the Cb for cavan?? and you suspect them men were actively hunted. I know for a fact that mcconville was anyway. the cb should have actively been seeking managers who fit the bill long before graham decided he had enough. not sure what other young managers you speak of. davy burke is young but has prior experience in both club and colleges. vinney corey was a monaghan selector before taking the big role. conor laverty again has colleges and county selector experience. I think what people are getting at is the galligan is as fresh as they come. by new year he will have played and managed his county in the same year. Im told he hasnt as much as managed an underage team with his club so im doubting the coaching badges. but thats not fact and i dont know that for sure. these are the gripes people have. I have seen thiose messages with my own eyes. it would be very sad to make that up. but anyway. lets see how the players respond to him and lets see what he can do in div 2. I was never expecting Jim Gavin or Jurgen Klopp, just a candidate who had ACTUAL managerial experience. It's a slap in the face to coaches who spent time getting their badges and then see an individual fast tracked to an inter county job. And to add insult to that put him in with coaches who are far more experienced than him. Why not name Murray who has won 2 all Irelands with Meath ladies or James Burke who just missed out on the Mayo job as manager and bring him in as selector(which I would still disagree with by the way) Jobs for the boys.

Do we know his full backroom team yet. I've heard and seen several names mentioned from Catherina McKiernan to Ronan Flanagan etc.. ponger (Cavan) - Posts: 544 - 24/08/2023 12:58:38 2502061 Link 0 |
Paddy Christie wouldn't be on my list tbh. Harte was not available (Louth were lucky he was available when he was), and think he said before he'd be hesitant to take an Ulster job as it would pit him v Tyrone more often. Louth is close for him while not being Ulster. McConville not sure just yet. Think he'll get there in a few years but he's building himself after club and colleges jobs. He's still with Wicklow anyway. The simple facts are that the job is more than a full time job alone in some counties. And Cavan for better for worse is one of those too, what with the level of mania for football in the county and the staff behind and such. An inside person would know the score and know the work they'd need to put in. There may be outside managers who would like the looks of it, but for whatever reason, whoever was around did not apply. I'm just saying it is not unusual. McHugh did it with us at 34, McGeeney went straight to management, and even Corey you mention had no management experience (fair point on being a selector). Ideally maybe he would have got something first, but the world is not perfect and things don't align the way you want. The job was there now, and he likely saw the opportunity to put together a team and strike while the iron is hot with being in Div2, a shot in Sam, and some younger players there he can works with. but make no mistakes, it's a big job to take on Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2450 - 24/08/2023 13:18:15 2502068 Link 0 |

Be interesting to see how Murray goes in his new role as assistant manager. Was he hands on with Meath Ladies have heard mixed reports of what he did in his role of manager of that team. Raymond could still play then Murray be the manager ..interesting times ahead

First of all good luck to Raymond he's got a tough job in front of him I would say minimum requirement is to consolidate in division 2 and that won't be easy some big names in there relegation would be disastrous. [email protected] (Cavan) - Posts: 138 - 24/08/2023 17:03:16 2502118 Link 0 |
19 of a back room team including 5 stats men… The complete nonsense continues…

Bit futile arguing about it now. Wish the lad all the best and let's see what happens. Very interesting to watch the league next spring any way JamsieMac (Cavan) - Posts: 482 - 24/08/2023 18:36:57 2502133 Link 0 |
