Malachy o Rourke would be my choice but the county board need to act quick on that . Because I could see him being lined up for the Derry job after Sunday. I hope the county board are bold and brave in terms of approach. Preference would be Mickey Harte or Malachy O Rourke, but also Mickey Moran, Kevin Walshe, Declan Bonner, Oisin mcconville would be my potential dark horses. I don't believe anyone internal in the county has shown enough to get the job in the last 5 years . asdfg (Cavan) - Posts: 320 - 11/07/2023 12:16:30 2493765 Link 0 |
McGuinness and O Rourke are even more defensive. They invented that way of playing.

Mickey has made the right decision and new and fresh thinking is needed but the big problem is at under age level which is a disaster and getting worse by the year and until this is rectified it makes no difference if god himself is in charge and the future is bleak is their a decent defender in the county. breffnibluewhite (Cavan) - Posts: 479 - 11/07/2023 13:03:38 2493784 Link 0 |
As far as I'm concerned, it was an Ulster Final, the venue, the fans, the month, it was the same for both teams, and not to forget, Donegal were reigning Ulster Champions. It was Cavan's first Ulster Title since the 90s, the first back to back Ulster Final appearance since the 60s so I'm sorry if you slept through all of that, but for the majority of Cavan supporters it was a fairytale couple of years and a period that Graham should be applauded for. Many a manger passed through Breffni Park since McHugh left in the late 90's and none of them came close to what Mickey Graham achieved. I thought the supporters would be wide awake now having slept through the 5 years of the Black Death! cavanblueman (Cavan) - Posts: 636 - 11/07/2023 14:17:18 2493797 Link 0 |

Agree. They need to look outside Ulster.

You're extremely bitter. Under the management of Graham, Cavan reached their first final and won their first Ulster title in over 20 years.

Precisely, first back to back Ulster Finals since the 60s, the first win since the 90's, when was the last time a Cavan man managed Cavan to an Ulster Title, But never mind foreverblue, one minute he's saying the 2020 win was a strange win, and then he calls it a great win on another thread. But you cant beat facts and you cant rewrite history, Cavan are in the record books for winning an Ulster Title in 2020, and Mickey Graham is in for having managed them and that's all that matters! cavanblueman (Cavan) - Posts: 636 - 12/07/2023 15:42:31 2493988 Link 0 |

Give it to Damien Donoghue. There's nobody in the county more passionate and has done reasonably well at underage level. Get someone like Kevin Walsh in around him as coach or maybe Paddy Tally might fancy something closer to home. Donoghue will actually go watch club games too. Oh ForeverBlue2 what will you do now that you don't have anyone to criticise. You come across as someone who had a fallout with the previous management or just a bitter person, hoping Cavan lose so you can give out. Maybe you are just a disgruntled U10 manager. You will of course criticise the nest decision by the County board but question is, who do u want as manager Desman (Monaghan) - Posts: 35 - 12/07/2023 20:33:35 2494029 Link 1 |
Worth ignoring that poster. They've been denigrating and diminishing our Ulster win since soon after it happened. They're never happy and never will be

There seems to be a bit a slight bit disrespect towards Donohue, likely due to his media commitments. But if we do end up looking internally, he would be my choice. I liked what he done with the under 20s group last year. Smart, fast and clever football. I was at the 20s game this year and they actually done a lot well in that game . It was more an individuals/leadership issue as opposed to a preparation or coaching one . The key difference was, Donohue never got a second bite of the cherry this year . How many chances did the minors and seniors get to fix things and try new things ? From what I have heard his due diligence and preparation is top class so I would have no issue if it ends up going to him and the county board back him with a decent ticket. asdfg (Cavan) - Posts: 320 - 14/07/2023 07:37:18 2494244 Link 0 |
Happy now...nah, you're forever blue, Jim Gavin could take over Cavan and you'd still find the negatives in it.

So what's his track record that would make him a contender?

i hope Donohoe management is better than his commentary on games. When we started out division 4 campaign 2 years ago and were barely scraping past teams he was on about good time management and running down the clock etc etc this was in a match against Carlow who were beaten by sligo the previous week by approx 20 points. It was 3 or 4 games in before he even realised we were playing very poorly against very limited teams not all ireland contenders and we managed to come down to their level. I gave up on him after listening to a few of these match commentaries. breffnibluewhite (Cavan) - Posts: 479 - 14/07/2023 12:18:12 2494315 Link 1 |
