Don't be kidding yourself…. nothing wrong with either Burns or O Neill and I would expect both will start…. McGeeney playing mind games like our own genius with the team selections…..

You complain every time. We know your stance is all. You just don't need to say it every time

Dont think we'll see either of them to be honest, but if we see any of them, It'll be Burns rather than O'Neill. O'Neills injury was a serious one a will need another few weeks to recover in my opinion and I cant see Armagh risking him, they'll keep him for the All Ireland series of matches. I'm putting it out there, Cavan will run Armagh tight and nobody should be surprised if we come of County HQ with a victory. This team is so experienced. In every line their are players with pedigree, and success. This team will have every belief in tomorrow. Hope a big crowd can attend. The players will know their roles, and bring steel and fight. A lot of this team have beaten Armagh, '13, '16 and '19. So excited in so many of the match ups. Just wish the team the very best. If O Neill's injury is that bad what's the point in naming him on the bench…,? Cavan to have a chance will have to go hell for leather right from the start… if they revert to their usual turgid slow build up and hand Armagh the kick outs they will play right into their hands… Quick ball into the forward line is also a must as our attacking line will be tighter marked today than anything they came up against playing in division 3/4….. A big game is needed out of McKiernan and McVitty will need to release the ball quicker and not run into tackles or he will end up in a heap….. We can win if we play clever football and not get sucked into a negative mindset..

Unfortunately the lack of high intensity games in recent years in Div 3 and 4 has caught up on us in championship against a top ten team . We had our chances 15 wides to Armagh's 3 a telling factor and disappointing. Nonetheless we still have a quality group capable of more big performances and better days to come. Didn't see that coming, I was expecting a massive performance but it was just gutless. We never laid a finger on them. asdfg (Cavan) - Posts: 320 - 22/04/2023 20:36:12 2472524 Link 0 |
We were never at the races….. Our 3 wasted years playing in division 3/4 has really come back to haunt us and that's all down to Mickey Graham.. Things we were getting away with in basement football was shown up here big time… bad shot selection, bad passing and especially in the first half very poor defending… 12 points will not come close to winning any inter county game and yet again our lack of a goal threat was obvious… The Taltainn Cup is indeed our level and I wouldn't be too confident of this team getting the job done there either…. Hang on a minute. We bossed the midfield . We stopped Rafferty from going short and every time he went long we won it in midfield. Yes we were taking shots from toi far out but for goodness sake dont write us off like that. We had enough chances to win that game . Both Galligan and Lynch missed frees they would normally score. GNac, Lynch, McVitty and Oisin and Conor Brady other chances that would normally go over. Maybe not all of the 16 wides or the 3 or 4 dropped short would go over but 5 or 6 out of that 20 or so would normally end in a score. It would be interesting to see the possesion stats. If I was Armagh I would not be happy with that second half performance at all. They have some wonderful players alright and Ethan Rafferty is giving them an extra masn outfield but they could easily have not won that game. This was nothing like our defeats to Tyrone or Donegal of a few years ago . s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 23/04/2023 09:11:05 2472630 Link 2 |
Amazing how the same people every year get carried away thinking cavan are a top team. wishfulthinkin (Cavan) - Posts: 1720 - 23/04/2023 09:17:07 2472631 Link 1 |
I saw a stat that none of Cavans shots were inside the scoring zone. Potshots from the wings and outside the 45. Armagh eased up in the second half. The damage was done in first half. Cavan too slow and ponderous

It was every bit as bad…. 9 pts down after 30 minutes at home meant the game was over and Armagh could do as they pleased… It was a tame exi

we were wiped out in midfield in the first half Armagh won almost every long kick out no one on the Cavan team played well form 1 to 15 and most other teams in ulster apart form a poor armagh team would have wiped the floor with us on yesterdays performance. I dont know what went wrong but we did not seem to be up for this game same as Tailteann cup final or maybe we have gone backwards as i said after win over Fermangah in league final with 5 minutes of normal time left we were two points ahead and fermanagh looked the most likely winners, Management were very poor should have been a change in midfield at half time and earlier subs in the second half when we were still 8 points down but it was Armagh who were making the changes. Tailteann cup is our level and hopefully we win it this year as given the age profile of this team and how our underage teams are performing in another two years when most of these lads go we will struggle to be competitive in the Tailteann cup.

Cavan 16 vArmagh 3 wides if we scored half of them we'd have won wasn't even remotely like how we played against Donegal last year very disappointing conditions were poor but same for both sides, really don't know where this team are going Armagh missed nothing but got their scores to easily as Mark O'Shea said we never laid a hand on them in the first half a bit better in the second but we were to wasteful, from the 69 th min to the 75th we kicked 5 wides which would have drawn us level and Armagh were starting to crack at that stage, don't think Armagh are any great shakes and they won't win Ulster playing like that but good luck to them on a deserved victory. As for us there's an awful lot of work to be done with that team in div 2 next year we'll be playing teams like that and better every week and if we carry on like that we'll be back in div 3 again. At no stage did we ever look like getting close to Armagh on the scoreboard. Bossing midfield and picking up the breaks is pointless unless you have some one inside to aim for., GMc spraying 20m passes latterly in the middle of the park is pointless. A half fit junior B player can do that. Let the ball in fast and have someone imposing in there to win even half of what goes in. Edge of the square is GMc only position. With PL playing off him. How difficult is that to implement?? Armagh are no great shakes as I said last week but they better than us. They cuter and that comes from playing at a higher standard. We are Tailteann cup material. We won't win it but it's possible maybe to get to the final again . Management need to take a good hard look at themselves and the game plan that they sending players out to implement. Shades of the Antrim league game were backs stood off forwards and gave them free shots within range. Not a glove put on any Armagh forward . McKeever (Armagh selector ) said after the game that they couldn't be happy with their performance… he said it was enough to get over the quality of opposition they faced but would be no use against top opponents….. They obviously didn't rate Cavan very highly and looking at yesterday it's hard to blame them… Armagh just kept us at arm's length when they got a commanding lead and knew they could up the ante at any time if needed… Even Kerry wouldn't be silly enough to consider shooting from some of the positions we tried from and they have real forwards…. We just don't have the forwards to trouble any top 10 team and the paltry 12 points we managed yesterday over 70 odd minutes shows this is the case…. not talk of the total inability to score goals against even the weakest opposition… 3 Ulster Championship games in a row now and not a glove left on any team yet somehow bizarrely some here think Management show their real mettle come Championship time…. Unbelievable ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 3057 - 23/04/2023 13:11:40 2472707 Link 0 |
