Galway U21s from 2011 have nobody on the current Senior pane. They hammered Cavan in that All Ireland final. Tom Flynn and Danny Cummins were there for a few years, without ever cementing a place on the team FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2832 - 22/07/2022 20:32:36 2433615 Link 0 |
Yes I agree with you there.

Very hard to win games on a regular basis if you don't kick the ball into the forwards…. Cavan have gone down this road for a number of years and when you factor in that we can't defend properly either it's not hard to work out that when we meet any sort of decent opposition we are dust… We even lost the Taltainn final playing the same rubbish against very moderate opponents… There is absolutely no future in the way Cavan play especially when we can't defend properly……!! Or maybe cavan devised a defensive set up because they didn't have the forwards to play any other way. In Hylands last year he had tweaked things and I think we were one of the top scoring counties in ireland. Unfortunately Joe Brolly continued to spout dung about the black death and just like in the USA there are idiots that believe everything trump says in ireland there are idiots that believed Brolly. Cavan owes Terry Hyland a huge debt. The biggest crime as ive said is that we put some shocking people in charge of underage after those glory years and destroyed the conveyor belt that every county needs.

We didn't have forwards because of the systems we employed…. picking defenders in the forward line because they were going to be sent back into defence… Hyland said his biggest regret when managing Cavan was the negative way he set up against Kerry in the All Ireland QF when he allowed them easy possession leading to the game been over at halftime… The current way Cavan play can be traced back to the Hyland era so I don't think he is owed any huge debt….!!!

Players like Martin Dunne when in his prime got sick of Hyland negative tactics and quit. Hylands biggest problem was he didn't have a seasoned coach with him. Yes he had done great work with the U21s and has to be applauded for that. But it's a big step up to Managing a Senior team and pitting your wits against the likes of McGuinness and Harte! Martin Dunne that was 2nd highest scorer in ireland in his season under Hyland? He got fed up did he? Give me a break from such nonsense.

The biggest mistake we made was the 2 years we wasted between Terry leaving and Mickey starting. We got that appointment wrong. Picked the wrong man and appointed him too late in the year when we did pick him. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5200 - 24/07/2022 21:06:26 2434065 Link 1 |
Well was he dropped? Or did he walk away? Why? Get real.

Dunne walked away like many others because they got fed up with the lack of ball been played into the forwards no matter how many runs they made… It must have been absolute torture to play in that Cavan full forward line in the last 10 years..:. And you have people on here at a loss as to why we have produced no decent forwards in that period… Do these people have any clue about football at all..?

And anyone who knows anything about football in cavan knows that's complete bull. Dunnes successful season with Cavan was playing off Eugene Keating who won the ball and handed it to Dunne. Dunne wasn't big enough or powerful enough to win his own ball. Why are you making up these stories?

I don't thing you have ever been wrong about anything, it's a pity that you wouldn't take the mangers job. RHF (Cavan) - Posts: 878 - 25/07/2022 11:49:30 2434169 Link 0 |
Cavan were top scorers in the 4 Divisions in 2016, Hylands finals year.. Givney and Johnston were excellent in the full forward line. McKiernan was on the 40. There was a good balance to the team. Galligan was making his mark in goals. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2832 - 25/07/2022 12:04:33 2434179 Link 0 |
I would admit that Mattie McGleenan was way out of his depth with no County managerial experience…. But we then went and appointed a carbon copy…

Not a story it's fact….. If players are not getting any enjoyment out of playing county football with all the commitments involved they will walk away… that's what happened… like it or not

It's fairly obvious they don't by what they post but at the end of the day it boils down to pure common sense and fact…. We have a decent full forward at present in Paddy Lynch but we still flute around with the ball out the field and won't kick it in when he makes the run…. If it continues it's only a matter of time when Paddy stops making the runs and eventually stops playing county football altogether… The way Cavan set up and played in the Taltainn Cup final was a disgrace…. slow lateral buildup with no pace was shocking to watch coupled with handing Westmeath every kick out played right into their hands…. Could the management team ( all 22 of them ) not see from the Sligo game that this was senseless…. Obviously not… You reap what you sow as they say….!

Ask Dunne why he walked away. Because he's not shy in saying why.
