Replying To Ned_Stormcrow:  "No, certainly not. Nonetheless, we are where we are, and the reason we are in this final is because we are not good enough to compete for the Sam, which is embarrassing for a supposed football mad county.

However, a final is a final, and winning it will go some way towards redemption in my view, so I'm hoping for a good performance and result.

By the way, does anyone think it would be a good idea for the Tailteann cup winners to play the Sam Maguire winners perhaps a few weeks after the AI final to give the Tailteann cup winners a chance to lay claim to being among Ireland's best? Kind of like how the Champions league winners play the Europa league winners?"
No …. Is there not enough turkey shoots in football… the Taltainn cup was brought in to try and eliminate turkey shoots…not provide one

Replying To breffnibluewhite:  "alot of negative deluded posters on here the only two competitions that Cavan have any chance of winning are The Tailteann cup and an out side chance each year of winning the Anglo Celt cup. We have no chance of winning the sam maguire cup same as 29 other counties in ireland and there is no shame in that. Why cant ye just enjoy it and dont be turning up your noses at what is the second most important championship competition in the country at the moment and only one that Cavan and 29 other counties have any chance of winning. Even if we get promoted to division 2 next year and division 1 the following year this wont change what chance has any team other than kerry of dublin of winning the sam maguire this year and it will be the same for the next two year with one or two other teams with an outside chance ie mayo and tyrone. These new competitions should be celebrated and supported its the level we are at and have been at for the past 50 years."
Totally agree with you on that…. The main reason I want us back up the leagues is that if we were competing regularly in Division 2 it would give us a better chance of being more competitive in Ulster and maybe win the Ulster a little more regular than every quarter of a century… Playing in the depths of Div 3/4 gives us no chance of even getting to an Ulster Final let alone win it…. The Taltainn Cup is indeed our level and it would be great to win it but promotion to Div 2 next season is a must… Despite what "genius" Graham might think playing Division 3/4 football does you no good whatsoever come Championship time….

The Ref should be the least of our worries if we're completely honest with ourselves ! !

Well that's also true but this particular ref is so poor in my opinion, it's unreal…. I wonder why there was a change.. We will just have to get on with it… at the end of the day if we are good enough we will win despite the ref…!

That's right I didn't bother watchin the Ulster final of 2020 ! doh ! ! Point being despite the Ref's performance Cavan were so good on the day that his influence didn't matter in the end.

We will win despite the ref....

So is it a case of excuses at the ready if you don't win??

Westmeath are a very good side and would beat some teams in the All ireland championship, Meath included (as would Cavan) so put a bit of respect on their name and abilities rather than having an convenient excuse around who the referee is.

Referee's don't win or lose matches, they don't kick the ball for teams.

You've had experience with him and should have prepared accordingly, it's not as if you've no clue about it

you have to call it as you see it if we complained about the ref after a loss it would be dismissed as a case of sour grapes if cavan management had made their feelings know after the ulster final about the referees performance we would probably not have the huge problem and uncertainty we have now it may not matter how well we perform on Sathurday anyway best of luck to lads heres hoping for another miracle like 2020.

Referees decisions certainly can and do decide the result of matches . There are numerous examples of it , I m sure you remember 2010 when the Meath try against Louth was awarded as a goal and cost Louth the Leinster title .
I m sure referees judge every incident on its merits as the case should be and in most cases they get it right ( with little or no help from the other six officials ) . The most farcical thing about it all is the refs are not even supposed to look up at the big screen in Croke Park to check a decision . Why cant they have a pitch side monitor at the big games to help them out for off the ball incidents if need be for or would that be going too much like soccer ?
The one that stands out for me was the game in Breffni against Roscommon when Mossy Corr was involved in a striking incident about five minutes before half time which wasnt seen by the ref David Gough or his officials but the game was televised and he went in at half time and had a sneak look at the telly and came out at half time and sent Corr off . He shouldnt have had to do that .

a ref can absolutely decide a close game.
No one knows the rules regarding the "tackle" so a ref could swing a game by 4 or 5 points . no problem. also Black cards is another area where anything goes.. no consistency at all.
Every indication points to a close game so both teams would want a competent and impartial ref.

if you could impart more of your wisdom to us brian we know that this ref may not award a mark when a player calls for it and this is one of cavans attacking options so should we now drop this tactic against westmeath all together should we tell our defenders not to attempt to tackle as they may well result in a a black card just wonder how we should adapt our game as we now know his form.
