Raffertys pass wasn't mis hit. That was a tactic Armagh had been working on according to McConville

Of course they are a lottery…. but you would be more happy with a 6pt defeat… strange that

Replying To Loughduff Lad:  "Ye were both talking up there like it was some amazing transformation or something, like it's the new way. It was one game, and they still lost. They were 6 points worse off only for the flukey goals. Vast bulk of the games have not been won this way, the teams with plans and good tactics are winning. You boys are hilarious. Do you actually watch football?"
If you keep kicking high balls into the square and the defence/goalkeeper keep clearing you will soon stop. BUT when you see results ( goals scored) because backs/ goalkeepers can't communicate or defend properly well you will keep exploiting that tactic.
Sligo/ London/Tipperary did it against us and poor finishing on their behalf cost them.
Donegal/ Armagh reaped benefits because they can finish these off.
That's the difference .
Watch Derry do the same against Galway and watch how many goals they get.
It's horses for courses ! You do it when you know it will work.
That's called tactics. Changing your play when you spot a weakness.
When do we capitalise on other teams weaknesses??

The first and third goals were mishits. I watched it again last night. Look at the way the player strikes the ball each time. First one was close to the bar, he was going for a point. Third one was O'Neill blasting the ball from 50 metres out, and the ball bounced near the penalty spot. They were mishit shots going for points. The 2nd one I'll give you, O'Neill fisted the ball across the box, and then the keeper made a hash of it. But let's not pretend this was some high ball tactics. It was 2 mishit shots, and bad keeping for the 3 goals. I listened to Aaron Kernan on OTB yesterday, he called all 3 goals flukes. And that's an Armagh man saying that...

How are penalties a lottery when each team gets a chance to take penalties, and have a keeper to save them. They're far less a lottery than the frees from the D or 45s we've seen before. Equal chance to either score or save it. Doesn't seem like a lottery to me. How else are we to separate them? (And don't say replays, we have no time in the calendar for them now)

We capitalised on Sligo's inability to finish their chances by conceding less than they did.

some insight into the game here pure genius so Armagh were 6 points down 2 minutes into injury time and they were going for points the high ball into the danger area was the tactic and it worked a treat and every team should use it at least 4 times per game as teams are not use to defending it and it causes all sorts of panic in the one area that goals can be poached. Its that simple that most coaches cant get their heads around it.

I hope Westmeath don't use it because Heslin will have a field day against our full back line!!

Afternoon folks. How we feeling now leading into Saturday? Looking forward to things, and feeling a nervous excitement for this. Final felt far away and distant after the Sligo match, but coming up close now and things ramping up. Hope things in camp and preparations are going well. Apparently ticket sales are selling well. The Tailteann counties have had a big uptake. I know of a lot of people who held off on the semi to be able to go to the final so hope that means we bring a big crowd.

I see Maurice Deegan is announced as ref. He's a decent ref overall, but seen him have poor games and make mistakes too. So hard to know what to make of that appointment.

The games Deegan has reffed that stand out to me, he tends to side with the favourites.

Kerry got out of Breffni with a draw in the league a few years back, and it was thanks to him.

He did one of the mayo-dublin finals, think it was the one where Keegan got the black card, again a wrong call.

Going by that, we're the bookies favourites so, for the first time in quite some time, we should at least get a fair crack from the ref.

Anyone I've spoken to from a neutral county has said they expect us to win it comfortably. Perhaps they're giving Mickey the credit some Cavan "supporters" aren't willing to give.

I see us winning it. By how much, I'm not sure.
As mentioned over the past few weeks, the big carrot is that winning it means not having to endure it next year.

I'd say the neutral company you are keeping are as knowledgeable about football as yourself…. I can't see how anyone could say we should win this game comfortably…. Westmeath while no great shakes are a step up in my opinion from anything we have played this season ( Donegal apart )… We struggled for long periods against a Sligo team that remember couldn't beat the power houses of London or Leitrim over 70 minutes… that would not and should not leave anyone over confident.. I do believe if we can tighten up defensively and show more trust in our midfield by pushing up on Westmeath kick outs we can win this and I agree there is a massive carrot for the winning team… l wouldn't be over confident of Deegan doing us any favours as he never did in the past…but let's leave the ref out of it for now.. This is a massive game for us so let's go for it from the first whistle and cut out the slow build up… Give Paddy Lynch the quick early ball he craves and the rest will fall into place… If we slow the game up too much we will play into Westmeath's hands

First line, straight to an insult. Jeez, just why?

You just never know what you're going to get with Cavan. Could win by 4 or 5, could lose by the same margin. We are notoriously inconsistent which makes this a 50/50 game.

Not an insult just an observation…. Is saying we will win the game handy an intelligent comment in your view..? No wonder we ended up in division 4 with that deluded attitude…!!!

Agree with that.. we are 1/1 -2 with PP. Very difficult 1 to call because as you say we don't know what kind of Cavan will turn up.
Our overall record in must win games is not great. I hope we win but it's definitely 50-50.

It was an insult, and now a rant. Who mentioned Division 4 and what is a bunch of fools like us here talking on a forum got to do with the play on the field?

Like supporters like players who think they are better than they actually are …. This is what happened after winning the 2020 Ulster title… posters on here saying we would wipe the floor with teams in division 3 the following season…. Where did we end up ..? Now we are going to easily beat Westmeath according to some geniuses here after struggling through Division 4…! Is it any wonder their knowledge is questioned…?
