I see there are still plenty of tickets available for today's game in Omagh…. Hardly a surprise

U20s were outclassed last night. The underage teams have really fallen away from the time of winning 4 in a row.
It's not a good sign for the future Senior team when the likes of McKiernan, Galligan, Reilly retire.

Goodluck to the Seniors. Hopefully they'll be be competitive if nothing else..

Will you go lad or will you be sitting by your keyboard ready to write the postmortem?

No 'lad' I will watch it on Sky Sports…. Hopefully they will put up a decent show to erase some of the embarrassment of being relegated to the depths of Division 4…..

Pathetic, last year was a covid fluke. No point in getting rid of the management, the players just aren't good enough.

We were all fooled into thinking things had changed.

Mickey will walk surely before he's pushed.
Worst season in cavans history.

Embarrassing 24 hours, exit both U20 and senior without a whimper. How could we look so tired in the senior game, all county players held back from club games since resumption of games, would they have been better playing, wonder did Tyrone allow county players to play in club games??
Mickey will survive another year but he needs to reconsider his coaching staff, they haven't players fit enough, and haven't brought in any quality forwards. Seems like you need to be from Gowna, Killygarry or Gaels to have a chance. Niall McDermott or James Brady better than what's there at minute based on last year's championship scoring tallies.

Who would you replace him with, if he did go?
I think it's a serious case of careful what you wish for.

I've no doubt he spoke with the county board about how he planned to blood young players during the league. Yes, it backfired terribly, but I think if his brief next year was promotion first, then face Ulster when it comes, then he'd approach it differently and we'd get promoted comfortably.

So it would take the 4th year of the reign to take the League serious? Jesus. And I don't see Cavan doing anything confortable

actually it wasn't as bad as I feared.
McCurry was on fire and our mgmt were far too slow to make changes to rectify the situation.
Sad to see Martin Reilly depart if that was his last game. it seemed we were not fit enough which is strange. Conor Smith did well when he came on. we still panic and have no clue what to do when we get close to goals. We could have scored two and we kicked 3 or 4 bad wides. We must concentrate on the league now and get back to div2 asap.

It depends if Mickey Graham wants to stay on or not, If he stays on then he'll be looking to get promotion and reaching a Ulster final to avoid playing in Tailtean Cup

Louth attracted Mickey Harte, Antrim got Enda McGinley and Stephen O Neill.

This is surely the worst defence of an Ulster title in history?

The game panned out near enough to what was expected…. I wouldn't rate this Tyrone team too highly but they are light years ahead of us….. Cavan did not look near fit and had shot their bolt after 25 minutes… How on earth did Mickey and his management team think it appropriate to start a player ( Moynagh ) in the 1st round of an Ulster Championship when he hasn't played a game in nearly 2 years…! Bonkers stuff.. Our full forward line again were woeful and the vastly overrated Madden made no impact when introduced… With Pat Faulkner saying it's the worst season in the history of GAA in Cavan that should be more than enough for Mickey Graham to consider his position…..

Disappointed with the game today, I thought we would have made it a better contest. But being honest, I think the ulster final win last year really was papering over the cracks. Lets not fool ourselves thinking that we were a dominant force in ulster even last year, yes we got across the line (which in itself was great achievement) but I feel that there was a lot of luck in a number of games leading up to the final. We were down by 7 against Monaghan and 10 to Down at points during the campaign, and I felt we struggled to get across the line against Antrim. I think the Donegal performance was the best I've seen in recent/not so recent years but you can't help wondering if Donegal overlooked us based on what happened the year before.
Reading a number of posts here I think we have gotten carried away with our expectations of the team based on in my opinion one very good performance.

On todays game, I feel we didn't get the tactical matchups right and I think the loss of James smith has a massive impact on the side. I think tactically putting Cian Reilly on Mc Curry with no help was a big ask on the young lad and something that we got wrong. Around the middle the absence of Smith was really noticed. Himself and Tomas Galligan seem to be the only two men that are able to consistently win primary possession around the middle and with Galligan asked to drift into full forward i feel we were left really lacking around the middle. This I suppose was obvious after the first 20 minutes when Tyrone started to dominate possession. I don't think slating the defence is the way to go seeing as they are under constant pressure with our lack of balling winning.

Up front is also a big issue. The two best scoring forwards that i've seen over the past few years weren't playing or arent involved in the panel. (Niall Mc dermott and Caoimhin Reilly based on the club championship last year and past county performances) I thought Conor Smith was good when he was introduced and offered a scoring threat and actually won ball inside something that was sorely missing before he was introduced. Otherwise we were very tame up front with a few directionless high balls aimed in at Galligan apparently our only hope of getting a goal.
Then bringing Conroy on as a sweeper when tyrone went down to 14 men and us behind by 8 points baffled me.

On a sad note, I hope Martin Reilly coming off injured isn't the last we see of him. He has been a model player for us over the years and a servant to the jersey.

Thats just my take on the game from what I seen, I'd be interested in hearing what you all thought.

County board need to appoint a GAA development Leader
- keep coaching development squads 14-17 as they are
- invest heavily in schools , every kid should be having a 1 hour session per week with a county board coach whatever the cost.
I don't think there is enough long term planning, and coaches only come in at 5th 6th class scouting for development squads.
Get everyone playing GAA and you will reap Long term, the multi cultural society now in big towns Needs to be encouraged to play GAA, which will make for better players in Future but also Better society with inclusion.
I do not think our county board are delivering on this .

Tyrone away was always going to be a big ask. We have good players and they don't become bad overnight. Something is amiss this year.
What I don't understand is how, when management knew the draw, they didn't put more emphasis on the League and promotion to Division 2.
We're now facing into six months of waiting for Division 4 where we've gone full cycle from boom to bust.
My fear is a lot of players will step away. It's a long road now back to the higher Divisions.

Everyone in Cavan is playing GAA. There is literally no other sport for Gaelic Football to compete with in any meaningful sense, no rugby, no soccer, no hurling. Gaelic footbal has a vitrual monopoly on sport in Cavan, and that is not a good thing. Here's why.

The problem with Cavan GAA is that they have had it too good for too long when it comes to a playing pool. If we encourage youngsters to play other sports to the detriment of football, it might finally spur those responsible into taking the necessary structural measures needed to produce good teams.

I have said it before, and I'll keep saying it, if you want to look at the reality of Cavan football, look at the results of our clubs in the Ulster club championship. The truth is the standard in the county is very poor. We have buried our heads in the sand for decades and hoped that something might happen, which it did in 2020, but that was a flash in the pan, and normal service has resumed.
