It just needs to be a good referee regardless of where he is from. A bad referee is a bad referee. The issue some refs have is that they are on too friendly a term with some of the more big name players as they encounter them frequently. The players know this and so can "lobby" a ref a push the right buttons. A ref should be strong enough to issue a straight red to the most popular or best players in the first minute of a match just as quickly as dishing out a card to a lesser known player in the middle of a game. The most blatant example of this was the ref who allowed Taidhg Kennelly off scot free for his horrendous fore arm smash on cork midfielder just after the throwin in the final s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 01/12/2020 21:27:48 2317478 Link 0 |

To be fair, that happened at speed. Ciaran Whelan on Nigel Crawford. Punch to the face, in front of the ref, ball nowhere in sight. . .yellow card. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5200 - 01/12/2020 22:26:40 2317499 Link 0 |

Have to hand it to ye lads, all this talk about refs maybe causing you the match, and not a word about what you're facing into, ye'll do well to get within ten, even with the ref of your side. lilypad (Kildare) - Posts: 1363 - 02/12/2020 00:49:23 2317536 Link 0 |
True, For Cavan to win they will need every thing to go right for them - including the ref - In fairness they have had two poor refs in their ulster semi final and final. And I dont rate Brannigan as much better. Coldrick or Goff are two of the best referees in the country and to be fair having a Meath man in the middle would probably have been the fairest all round. I doubt Cavan management/players are paying too much attention to whats been said here though. We are all just blowing wind here!!

Of course you are right I didn't explain it very well yes a Connaught ref could do Cavan v Dublin or a Munster ref but certainly not an Ulster one as we play in Ulster and then Ulster or Leinster ref for Mayo v Tipp that's the point I was trying to put across. Up Cavan.

We know we're facing a storm and your probably right as Dublin are the greatest team ever but we will be closer to them on Saturday than your county so put your feet up and enjoy the view.

Any other County player outside of Dublin would have got 48 weeks One rule for the Dubs another for the outsiders. Lads try and look at the Cavan game try and make an unbiased assessment of the full game and the overall performance by the Referee. My own opinion is that decisions balance themselves out most of the time. Overall I feel he had a good game. Referees have a split decision we have the luxury of replays ect. I will ask just one question: A player gets a black card correct decision as the rule goes then around the 42nd minuet that same player gave a Donegal a right elbow into the face continued up the field and Cavan scored from what in fact should have been a red card and a free for Donegal, As I said decisions balance themselves out. The second black card was spot on as the rule goes and the offender will agree with me if we chat about it. The Donegal line ball that Cavan got they also scored from that decision so overall decisions balance out over 70 plus minuets. Cavan are the holders of the Anglo Celt cup and were deserving winners on the day. Good luck to the Cavan team next week play your best and hope for the best. Gone well so far so no reason why it should not continue. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4601 - 02/12/2020 12:45:05 2317638 Link 0 |
Every analyst I've listened to said Brady's black card was wrong because intent wasn't clear and obvious. You've a bee in your bonnet about the current management and you're letting yourself down now with petty bitterness. It must be killing you that they've proven your doom and gloom predictions of 6 weeks ago to be completely wrong. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5200 - 02/12/2020 13:21:57 2317652 Link 1 |
Am l to believe that Ciaran Brannigan is the ref for Cavan / Dublin on Saturday. l have it on the best authority that neither the referee, Brannigan the other linesman nor any of the four umpires saw the Galligan incident on Sunday last. We can only hope that his eyesight has improved in the meantime. God help us!! Cavan abu. Declankillann declankillann (Dublin) - Posts: 83 - 02/12/2020 13:49:07 2317666 Link 0 |
is that why kildare gave up 10 years ago so? listen, this is our first time actually facing in to this. its a challenge surely but there's no point in putting up the white flag before a ball is kicked.everyone is saying this is bonus territory, some outsiders half sniggering about ''this will be the end of it'' etc etc. truth is cavan need a big performance to actually gain respect because even still people are saying donegal took cavan for granted and they didn't show up. there isn't one word coming from the camp but going of interviews etc they're going out to give it their best shot. where that brings them will be seen at 7pm Saturday evening. they're keen to get a cut at them anyway which can't be said for most of the teams in leinster (excluding meath) who actually appear to not want to win if Dublin are the other side of the draw. theweanling (Cavan) - Posts: 414 - 02/12/2020 14:10:07 2317671 Link 0 |
Best of luck to the boys on Saturday evening. You have done the county proud over the past five weeks and now you have the chance to prove to the whole country that you can mix it with the best. kildare blue (Cavan) - Posts: 578 - 02/12/2020 14:38:06 2317679 Link 0 |

You lot are more lily-livered than lily white, yourselves and meath rolling over to have your bellies tickled every year is really pathetic considering your populations and resources. Cavan wont beat dublin, in fact they may get a bit of a hiding but you can be damn sure they show a lot more guts than kildare or meath would, The players are excited about playing dublin and are looking forward to testing themselves against the best and having a cut. The right attitude, not the pathetic, limp effort from the other 11 leinster teams HuddHastings (Longford) - Posts: 144 - 02/12/2020 14:56:33 2317690 Link 0 |
I think it's more the mindset of other Leinster Counties. Monaghan have competed well against Dublin in League and Championship over the past few years. Even Fermanagh when Pete McGrath was manager didn't stand off and admire Dublin when they played in Croke Park. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2832 - 02/12/2020 15:07:42 2317698 Link 1 |
What is it with you and others. I have a good relationship with Cavan management there is not an issue. Your problem fella is that if I don't see it your way I have an issue. Look knocking a referee is all okay is it. We could write for ever if all we did was watch the referee and not the game. Get over your personal issue with me, Micky Grahams nephew is my wife's god sone why would I not wish Micky well. FFS sake most of you lot are FFING pathetic. I don't have a personal issue with you or anyone else on here. My issue is with your waiting with baited breath to kick the Cavan team when they're down. Your flat out refusal to recognise and acknowledge a good performance. The place has been quieter since we beat donegal than when we lost to Roscommon and got relegated! Wait and see. . .if Dublin do beat us by 15 points, the usual suspects will be on here saying we got lucky winning ulster in a strange year and are miles off competing with the very best teams. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5200 - 02/12/2020 16:56:25 2317729 Link 0 |
I did not say Dublin would beat Cavan by any score no matter if anyone wants to order the Ulster Final programm they can buy a maximum of 3 if interested here is the address the best of luck. http://ulster.gaa.ie/product/usfc-final-official-match-progtamme/ The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4601 - 02/12/2020 18:56:23 2317771 Link 0 |
