Ciarán Brady, why do you ask?

32 years in championship campaign. Think we haven't played them that often in championship but if you check you'll find the last time we beat them in the championship was 1987. Virginia (Cavan) - Posts: 101 - 29/05/2019 16:46:52 2188901 Link 0 |
I'd be quietly confident but Armagh can be an enigma sometimes. They've been mediocre for a long while but are capable of flashes of brilliance when you least expect. I seem to remember us beating them handily enough in Breffni in championship a few years ago where they looked a shambles at times and the next season they were relegated from D2. But in Championship they were a relevation. Beat us handily, took Monaghan to a replay. Beat Tyrone, Roscommon and Meath in the back door and gave Jim McGuinness's high flying Donegal the fright of their lives in an AI quarter in Croke Park. Haven't really done anything since. Like I said I'm quietly confident but still have a nagging feeling we're meeting them at a bad time on one of their upward spikes.

Definitely remember us beating them a few times in Clones in championship much more recent than that.

You need to stop digging man, the 32 years was a home win against them. We beat Monaghan in Ulster Championship in 1995 and 2001, both in Clones I believe. Both times we beat them we made the Ulster final which is actually a good omen for Sunday...

Because there are 3 Bradys on the panel

That's correct. One of them plays in defence, the other doesn't start, and the other one plays at midfield. I thought it would have been very obvious who I was referring to.

Anyone got any idea which end of the Gerry Arthur is Section 'J' situated? Was obliged to take what the Season Ticket offered and I've a funny feeling the view will be s***e despite a 100% attendance record so far this year ramor101 (Cavan) - Posts: 289 - 30/05/2019 12:43:31 2189079 Link 0 |
We put Monaghan in their place, but now its time to move on lads. Bigger fish to fry!! MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts: 493 - 30/05/2019 12:43:44 2189080 Link 0 |
Super article in the IT today about Martin Reilly and what he brings to the team. Great to see such a committed and reliable player get some national recognition. Unequivocally the unsung hero of this Cavan team. Cavan_Shambles (Cavan) - Posts: 575 - 30/05/2019 14:39:44 2189118 Link 0 |
What world are you living in Madge? It's 50\50, both have only won their first match in year's! It's only after this one that they will learn their worth! Good luck to both them! fifty (Mayo) - Posts: 108 - 30/05/2019 14:47:59 2189124 Link 0 |
Jesus, you've a bee in your bonnet over this. .. Ciaran didn't start the last day either. You could easily have been referring to Gunner given that Holla isn't a man marker. But no, it's my fault for not being a mind reader, sorry! cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5200 - 30/05/2019 16:29:33 2189163 Link 0 |
We will see. I am not saying Cavan are brilliant but they won't have to be to get over Armagh. The McGeeney name has them way-overrated

Normally I get a good seat with season ticket, exception when it's croke park.

Not really, I just thought your question was completely pointless and unnecessary. I know Ciaran didn't start, but if fit he's nailed on to play somewhere in the defence. Anyway, no ill feeling here man. We'll move on. Cavan_Shambles (Cavan) - Posts: 575 - 30/05/2019 19:25:25 2189207 Link 0 |
Yeah, fair enough. I agree Holla should start. My worry is that him coming back in would see Killian moved from 6. . I've been saying since we beat Mayo in Castlebar in 2017 that Killian needs to be played at 6. The Monaghan game was his first start there since and look how that went. I'd move Gerry Smith into the forwards if I was changing that half back line, but not sure who misses out then. Probably a toss-up between himself and Oisin Kiernan. Onto the game itself - I actually agree with Madge above. . IF we play the way we did against Monaghan, I think we will beat Armagh more comfortably than most people think. I think the way they struggled to put a poor Down team away means we will just have too much for them. We've contained better forward lines and their defence is very suspect. But we had over a month to prepare for the Monaghan game, and only 13 days to prepare for this one, so I don't se our gameplan changing too drastically. I'll go for another 4 point win - in a quite similar fashion to the Monaghan game. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5200 - 30/05/2019 20:09:05 2189214 Link 0 |
you are a wind up merchant or else deluded. Cavan have also struggled against Down recently and have been very lucky tobeat them on the last few meetings. In truth there is not much between ourselves, Down, Armagh, Derry and Fermanagh. Donegal and Tyrone remain a fair bit ahead in Ulster (it remains to be seen if the Cavan game was a one-off blip for Monaghan or have they really come down to our level). Antrim still the bottom of the pile in Ulster and the only one that you could be confident of beating. It's z 50/50 game with Armagh's superior firepower upfront likely to just shade it. We dont score enough and they tend to score heavily. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 30/05/2019 20:31:49 2189222 Link 0 |
