Galligan a good shout. Naturally more powerful but still very raw. Has a tendency to put the head down and plough on. But a few more years, bit more conditioning and a bit more cuteness he definitely has the natural ability.

What about Buchanan lads, I hear he broke the leg, is that the case? We're really missing him in the middle. We are light on midfield options atm, but I don't think Brady has done enough in the two games to warrant a third start. Not sure Graham is the answer either. It's a tricky one. What about young Smith from crosser lough? Still a bit young maybe? Cavan_Shambles (Cavan) - Posts: 575 - 03/06/2019 15:42:02 2190214 Link 0 |
Didn't hear anything about Buchanan breaking leg. Regardless, I'd imagine he has a lot of fitness work to do. Has the ability but not sue if the motivation is there. Argue a similar story. I think he has fantastic ability but lacks aggression. Smith on U20 duty.

I thought this game was better on the TV when I watched it last night than it looked from the terrace, there was plenty of monotony at times in it with keep ball, lateral passing and park the bus stuff. I think Martin Reilly has to be allowed out the field for the replay, I don't understand why he was played in the ff line yesterday totally underutilised there. Dara McVeety got plenty of needle but didn't react to it he played his heart out, he put in a massive shift I thought as did mcloughlin, moynagh, Murray x 2, Mackey, gearoid & rehill. I think we should try a few high balls in to the ff line next time and keep Madden and Galligan in there. We didn't test the armagh's full back line & goalie under the high ball at all. Cavan didn't lack for effort and spirit but a bit more direct ball into forwards is needed facer4home (Cavan) - Posts: 159 - 03/06/2019 16:26:05 2190229 Link 0 |
Yes we need goals from somewhere. And a free taker. Might limp on without one of them but not two.

What's Caoimhín ó Reilly like on frees? Admittedly I've seen very little of him but from the bit I have seen he has potential.

Yes from memory he's pretty decent on frees but from close range. So is Johnston. Long range problem is another matter but it's those 30 yard gimmes that are the real killer. He carries a decent goal threat as well.

Any news on Gerard Smith ? If it's a hamstring he's not likely to make next game facer4home (Cavan) - Posts: 159 - 03/06/2019 22:15:44 2190346 Link 0 |
The game certainly looked better on TV than it did in real time. Some of the play in the latter stages was very laboured. cavanblueman (Cavan) - Posts: 636 - 04/06/2019 09:48:21 2190403 Link 0 |
Bloody madness fixing the replay as a double header and after the Monaghan/Fermanagh game why couldn't they have the replay as a single fixture in Brewster, or move the first game to Saturday evening and let the Replay go ahead as a single fixture on the Sunday! The traffic and trying to get parked up is going to be a nightmare scenario for lot of fans, long tailbacks and long walks! pologrounds1947 (Cavan) - Posts: 26 - 04/06/2019 10:25:05 2190417 Link 0 |
Undoubtedly we are not at the level of Tyrone or Donegal, however I think we have closed the gap this year. Last year Donegal brushed us aside easily, but I believe the two years we had under McGleenan are lost years where many of our best players didn't commit and we were really scraping the barrel in terms of players on the panel. Notice this year how the personell is substantially different. I hope we make the final, I don't expect to win it, but as you said if we got within 3 points of the winners, we'd have made solid progress. Additionally you just never know what could happen in a final, complacency could be an issue for the favourites. Anyway, too early for talk of finals, massive game next weekend, who do we think will play in defence? Smith and Brady are absent, I'd imagine Oisín Kieran will be moved back to the HB line and maybe Enda Flanagan put in the FF line. What do people think? Agree with your assessment. I think Oisin will move to wing back. Maybe Oisin Pierson will start? Or Stephen Murray, who was excellent when introduced. Don't think Mackey will start but I think we'll see him much earlier the next day. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5200 - 04/06/2019 11:02:59 2190430 Link 0 |
Murray is definitely an option, might he be better off the bench though? He tore through Armagh when they tired. I don't think Pierson will start because we didn't operate with a FF line the last day, our plan seems to be to get scores from onrushing players. The ball went into Martin Reilly a few times but it didn't stick, Armagh had decent markers on him. Likewise with Galligan and Madden, they were bypassed a lot of the time. This is the perfect type of game that suits Mackey, someone who can carry and break tackles. Give him the second half. Cavan_Shambles (Cavan) - Posts: 575 - 04/06/2019 11:40:36 2190451 Link 0 |
I thought the vast majority of Armagh "shackeling" our players was illegal and let go by the referee. McVitty and Martin in particular came in for a lot of abuse. Gilligan was pulled to ground inside at one point. I looked at the ref to see if he was looking at it. He was. But he ignored it. I just think the refereeing of the game completely suited how armagh wanted to play it. We got whistled out of the game against Kerry a few months back for much much less. It was so frustrating to see Armagh get away with the amount they did. Someone on the main page mentioned that Armagh are appealing Donaghy's red card. They don't need to - it was a 2nd yellow! For dropping the knees onto Killian when another player held him on the ground! I honestly think, despite being below the level we showed against Monaghan, that we were better than Armagh in all aspects except midfield. And that it was poor officiating that kept the game close throughout. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5200 - 04/06/2019 11:51:39 2190456 Link 0 |
It was a straight red, ref accidentally pulled wrong card but quickly got the red out.

Here's hoping. Can't recall the same ref refereeing a drawn game and replay in recent times.
