I would love to see tomas galligan at full flight he is a fantastic player when fully fit . There are so many players not involved that it is a shame lads didnt get a call up .

Midfield is definitely where we will struggle. McKiernan on his form so far is definitely not up to it.
I like the idea of Mackey playing a roving centre forward but not tracking back too deep.
Do we start Seanie or bring him on at half time. Definitely not 70 mins in him but could do damage in the full forward line playing off McKiernan if we let the ball in quick with C o Reilly in the other corner.
Pushing up on the Donegal backline is the only way to stop them building from the back as they like to do.
I believe we are in with a good chance here. Better chance than people think.

You could have named many more several you mentioned don't want to commit.

Sean it is a pitty they dont want to pull on a cavan jersey , is there any reason lads do not want to commit and if so how do cavan fix it . We are not playing with the best 30 players in the county .

Forget about the players that are not there for whatever reason.
Mattie can only deal with what has committed and they are well able to step up to the task.

The only 2 that I would consider a loss is Jack Brady and Kevin Meehan.
But if they can't commit for whatever reason we'll get over it. At least what we have are committed to the cause. Madden, Johnston , o O Reilly Mackey McVitty are match winners on any given day and all have proved that.

We have to be confident going into this game but we will be massive underdogs and for good reason. Writing off Donegal's league form and failure to beat a "poor" Mayo team is not very realistic. Mayo have the second best panel of players in the country for years now and a mainstay in Division 1. They always manage to survive. Donegal had a decent league and were very unlucky to get relegated. They fought out every game closely. They've actually survived in Division 1 for years and have fantastic young players coming through. They have lads on the team with All Ireland medals in their pockets, players who are proven in the cauldron of a September Croke Park. To think we are going into anything but the lions den would be stupid. Championship football is different to league. Harder ground, faster pace, more hype, more expectation, much larger crowds, high pressure. These factors adversely affect players and not everyone is cut out for it. Donegal are much more proven than us in these regards. If we are to win our players are going to have to step up a significant level- it's that simple.
We had a good league. Promotion from Division 2 is not to be sniffed at. We are a decent team who will ask questions of teams. We have our problems for sure and the injuries have weakened our hand but talk of bringing lads in at this stage and changing the whole team around is crazy. We have to build on what we have achieved so far and that means trusting and rewarding the players who have got us this far and giving them the opportunity to improve. They have earned their Championship places. TBH I would be absolutely disgusted at this stage if they brought in lads who earlier wouldn't commit at the expense of the ones that did.

McLoughlin
Clarke
Murray
Holla
Faulkner
MReilly
That's as good a 6 backs as we have and all fairly experienced."
McLoughlin plays mf or forward with club.
Clarke the same. Holla loves attaching. Martin Reilly is a forward. Not exactly defensively sound. Donegal have six excellent forwards. The Roscommon game was not the first where we were cut open, it's just they took their chances. Down sliced through us, Tipperary likewise. Galligan has being saving us in a lot of games. Mattie needs to learn how to set up a defensive structure quickly.

Cut open with no centre half. Can't believe why they won't try Faulkner at centre back.
Haven't seen much attacking play from M Reilly. Anytime he gets the ball he goes backward or lateral.
Name Donegal's 6 class forwards? Have I missed some?

This is not the Donegal of 2012 or 2014.
They are very average and their league form proved that.
I'd rather meet them that meet Tyrone , Monaghan or Armagh away in the 1st round despite their home record.

Only those two jesus the other 28 must have been shite but then again thankfully it's a matter of opinion and you are entitled to it like the rest of us. Meehan does not want to come in he is involved in unsocial hours working with his job. Keep living in your dream world.
Still they are division 1 for next year plenty changes will have to be made to stay there.

Mark McHugh not getting his place. Ryan McHugh more effective then his brother if played in attack,
Paul Brennan is a back. Darrach O Connor good forward too, started 2014 all Ireland, few bad injuries since.

Jamie Brennan has lethal pace.. A lot of attention would go to McBrearty in full forward line, but Brennan can do damage.

Put Thompson in instead of Paul Brennan. There a lot of talent there.

Mc Niallais been played mostly in midfield . Mark mc Hugh can command a place . Ryan is playing half back . Has o Connor played this year yet?
They are more unsettled that us .
They brought Leo mc lone back for whatever reason . Mc Brearty is worth 10 points from play and frees. Keep him quite and we are half way there.

Agree entirely. Donegal played well throughout the league and ran Dublin close. They're comfortably better than we are.

Our defence is wide open and we're still not that potent in attack. Midfield is also an issue.

We may have had a chance with mc Veety, I can't see us winning without him.

Men of Cavan can I ask are your senior squad playing for their clubs this month ? I suspect a number of counties are wrapping them up in cotton wool as usual. In Monaghan they are back playing for their clubs which is right & proper so hopefully will stay injury free ! I think Mattie is doing a good job for you !

This forum is starting to resemble the National League one leading up to the Clare game.

I agree, the doom and gloom merchants, the same lads, who gave us no hope after the McKenna Cup and Clare match.

Yes, Donegal are a good team, but they got relegated by a very poor Mayo Team, theyre going to be playing Division 2 football next year. The pressure is all on Donegal to put in a good performance in Ulster.

Cavan had an off day against Roscommon, but still ran them close, we should be going into the championship with confidence.
