What are expectations? What will starting team be? fatkeeper (Dublin) - Posts: 316 - 05/04/2018 23:37:59 2091330 Link 0 |
The expectations were low with McVeety. They are pretty non-existent without him. Donegal have way too much pace and power for our physically small team. Croke Park made us look even smaller - Gearoid is obviously not fit enough for 70 minutes of football at a high level - too many weak links and too much inexperience of championship football on our starting team. I hate to sound negative but that's the harsh reality. I fear for our day in Ballybofay. countdown (Cavan) - Posts: 14 - 06/04/2018 09:26:23 2091352 Link 0 |
To be fair Dara was pretty reluctant about making any shapes towards the line. He led us to Croker and he was adamant about seeing the game through. Quite possibly the best captain I've ever seen in the Cavan jersey ramor101 (Cavan) - Posts: 289 - 06/04/2018 10:00:01 2091357 Link 0 |
The best captain you've ever seen in a Cavan jersey? Pure hyperbole. And the manager chooses who comes off not players. His reluctance to come off has possibly cost him leading the team out in championship.

King was captain when we won our last Ulster title but it do sent mean he was our best captain by any means... It's a silly argument and way off the topic. . As stated on the league forum I don't see us with any chance up in Donegal and McVittys absence will give us an even harder task...

In reference to another post by someone else who is accountable for not taking him off. If the player say's he is fit enough you give him the few minuets before you make a decision then, neither the Doctor or the Physio have xray vision and cannot make a decision on a persons injury it's that simple unless it's obvious. No one is accountable other than the player himself. He is the only one that knew the extent of the situation at that moment in time. Have to say... the delay in taking McVeety off on Sunday was one of the most ridiculous things I have seen on a GAA pitch. McGleenan has serious questions to answer on that!! fatkeeper (Dublin) - Posts: 316 - 06/04/2018 12:46:21 2091397 Link 0 |

Is there any games planned before Championship? Anyone to come back in? fatkeeper (Dublin) - Posts: 117 - 06/04/2018 12:46:21 2091397 Can you explain to me how the manager has questions to answer and how can you claim it was one of the most ridiculous things I have seen on a GAA pitch. You must lead a very sheltered life fella or lady. The player did not want to come off it happens week after week on many a playing ground. The situation happened a call was made they went with it and then took him off it's as it was and no finger pointing at anyone here, the call was taken out of their hands by the insistence on the player who happened to be the captain wanting to remain on the pitch. Jesus you would think it has never happened before?? It has it does and it will continue to happen it's life. Adrenaline flowing takes over most of the time. This panel deserves huge credit for their efforts to date, but it is tough to get a 15 that looks like it could trouble Donegal in Ballybofey. As a first go: MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts: 493 - 06/04/2018 16:25:59 2091439 Link 0 |
Cavan would be doing well to keep it under 6pt defeat with that team. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2832 - 06/04/2018 17:41:02 2091453 Link 0 |
Such nonsense! The physio signalled to the line that a change should be made (grade 3 hamstring tear). McVeety pleaded to stay on.. and they let him. Minutes later they were back on and same action. You wouldnt have seen it on Fr Ted! Meanwhile McVeety hobbled and limped around. Sonetimes you have to save players from themselves. The procrastination from the line has cost Cavan dearly and screwed cship chances! fatkeeper (Dublin) - Posts: 316 - 06/04/2018 23:37:14 2091496 Link 0 |
You would hold McKiernan till 2nd half?! Mad stuff. He has to start and Clarke will fall back to mark Murphy. fatkeeper (Dublin) - Posts: 316 - 06/04/2018 23:38:36 2091497 Link 0 |
Sean.....just stop. You don't run off a hamstring injury. The physio should signal he comes off and the manager makes the change. If a player isn't ready to come on, you exaggerate the hobble and carry Dara off.....you don't....under any circumstances let him carry on. I agree "Fatkeeper" that Clarke should drop back into defence but on recent showings and for that matter all displays down the year's in big games there is no way McKiernan should be a nailed on starter in this game... Sean.66 (Cavan) - Posts: 293 - 07/04/2018 11:04:32 2091521 Link 0 |
Yet it's not far off what the team will be. Bench is a worry too. We really need players to step up a level. Hopefully they can.

I take it all those over the years that have stayed on at all levels especially at the top tier that the medical people were wrong. The manager we have is not a medical man so he has to depend on these people so the buck you are saying stops with the medical people and not the manager??? Folks, can we move on from the McVetty injury scenario of last Sunday. None of us know how things panned out at the time, what information the player gave the medical team and what information the medical team relayed to the manager, However, i very much doubt that the manager would have allowed to guy to play on if he knew the full extent of his injury. kildare blue (Cavan) - Posts: 578 - 07/04/2018 12:21:12 2091537 Link 0 |
