I'm well aware of Fr Benny's achievements but unlike yourself I don't rate getting to finals or League quarter finals as success, you must have yourself when Terry got us to an All Ireland quarter final."
Amazing we won 3 Ulster championship games in Hylands time!
Great manager let's get him back!"
Last year we beat Armagh in McKenna Cup, embarrassed them in league and beat them well in Championship, we changed managers, they didnt who is still in championship??????

For those people who want to canonise Terry Hyland...I have followed Cavan Football for a very long time, back into the 70s, but the last 5 years have been the most brutal type of football that I have witnessed a Cavan Team playing. Yes, you can point to other poor managers, but at least they tried to play some kind of football. You dont need reminding, but attendances at Cavan Football matches have decreased and its all down to that nauseating defensive football he introduced.

Yes, he won under 21 Ulster titles, but the other side to that is that the man had access to some of the best underage talent that this County has ever produced, there were underage development squads, minors and U21's in abundance, all scoring for fun, and what did he do, he destroyed them with his negative, backwards type of football that has brought this County to its knees.

the blame lies with Jim mcGuinness.
He introduced the blanket defence. it was effective and other counties copied it.
It was a case of play it or get beaten.
The problem is that other counties are much better at it that Cavan are.
Another problem caused by this system is that it has produced robotic players, playing a system and performing a certain role.
There is no individual flair and lack of spontaneous reaction on the filed.
To add to the problem we have no natural forwards in the squad. When Tyrone, Dublin, Kerry etc play the system they transition from defence to attack fast and have men to finish the move.
We go over and back as we slowly zig zag up the field.

and of course he was the only manager in the country doing that. Cavan were the only team in the country who were playing that way. It all started with Terry and Cavan.. You heard it here first.

There is still underage development squads, and if not for terry there might not have been any U21 titles at all, your talking about talent you might not have noticed it only terry put in out there for every one to see, he brought us from the brink of div 4 to div one and you not happy with him, well you would be happy watching us having been beat out the gate , he made us competitive , and by god I hope he comes back .

Lads Terry's football was like watching paint dry but in fairness to him has the quality of play this year under Mattie improved or dis improved??
Also while Terry's championship record was very poor he did bring us from the verge of div 4 to div 1. While I know there is divided opinion on his reign here I think we should acknowledge his success during his reign especially in view of our pathetic results overall in decades. One Ulster title in 48 years for a county like cavan is dire stuff

When 1 poster with multiple usernames won't let his agenda go then it'll always be debated.

He can only manage 1 team at a time.

If you had god almighty himself he would not be good enough for the Cavan critics on here.

The defensive system that's been imbedded in young lads minds since 2011 seems impossible to break. That system was never tweaked and players are now brainwashed by it .
So when you have forwards like Mackey and Martin Reilly playing in their own half and players like jack Brady and Barry Reilly and tierney and Dunnie sitting around the house bored of the style of football been played it really doesn't matter who's managing us.

Thanks for that Martin. So you're saying there's no manager capable of taking over the team and making them more attack minded?
It's just as well out current manager knows how to keep the opposition from kicking 2-15 against us then. .

We kicked 18 points against Tipp. Our attack wasn't the problem!

So let me get this right Dean. Cavan's current manager is in fact sending out his teams to play free flowing attacking football but because the players are pre-programmed by the terrible Terry Hyland they simply incapable of doing what Mattie asks and instead just play ultra defensively. Do you actually read the nonsense you write?

Cavan were top scorers in Division 2 last year so it clearly was tweaked.
