Gettie died peacefully at the Virginia Residental Care Centre in January at the age of 87. Born Bridget Lynch from Drumina, she moved to Virginia in 1953 and became one of its best known and respected citizens. After marrying her late husband Tommy, they raised seven children while Gettie worked in the glove factory on the Bailieborough Rd before moving on to McEvoy's where she acted as a telephonist until it went automatic. Gettie loved socialising at bingos and bowls and became a keen supporter of Ramor United. She was also one of the first people to set up fundraising for St Christopher's Hospice in Cavan. Gettie's passing was met with real regret from her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Concepta, sons Philip and Thomas in Philadelphia, Sean in Dublin, Lorcan, Charles and Patrick in Virginia and sister Anna in Dublin.
