Lacken Celtic lost one of its finest gaels in February with the death of club stalwart Barney Brady. A prominent player and official of Lacken GAA, Barney gave outstanding service to the Crowe Park club both on and off the field. His biggest success  came in 1967 when he guided the team to the intermediate football championship title as manager. As a player, Barney lined out in defence and was a fierce competitor every time he took to the field. He spent some time in the USA, where he became a member of the Carpenters' Union. He is sadly missed by his wife Kay, sons Barney and Gene and daughters Kate and Monica. His funeral took place at St Michael's Church, where the Lacken club formed a Guard of Honour as a mark of its appreciation.
