Gerard 'Gerry' Freeman, Shinan, Shercock passed away on Saturday, September 2nd, 2017. He had a great love of Irish culture - including music, history and gaelic games. Gerry represented some neighbouring clubs, but spent the twilight of his career in the colours of Shercock GFC after helping reignite the club in 1975. As a farmer and coal merchant, Gerry was a man of tremendous physical strength, which was evident in his role as a commanding and tough full back with Shercock during the days of catch-and-kick football. A huge crowd attended Gerry's removal from the family home to St Patrick's Church and Shercock footballers past and present came from near and far to provide a Guard of Honour for their former colleague.
