Feakle have been crowned Clare senior hurling champions for the first time in 36 years and a seventh time overall after powering to a 1-17 to 0-13 victory over Sixmilebridge at Cusack Park on Bank Holiday Monday.

The East Clare side led from pillar to post in a dominant display, to which their vastly experienced and decorated opponents had no answer. With county star Shane McGrath, Eoin Tuohy, Martin Daly, Killian Bane, Oisín Donnellan, Steven Conway and Packie Daly all on target, Ger Conway’s charges took a 0-10 to 0-6 lead into the break. They would have been further ahead had McGrath’s 23rd minute penalty not been saved by Derek Fahy.

Fahy was eventually beaten by substitute Owen McGann’s strike which extended the winners’ advantage to 1-13 to 0-7. To their credit, the ‘Bridge rallied with scores from Alex Morey, Shane Golden and Brian Corry, but Feakle weren’t to be denied as Oisín Donnellan emulated his father Val by lifting the Canon Hamilton Cup.
