Bit of a blow for Cavan with at least four first choice players unable to commit.
Hopefully some of the previous under 21 players can step up now.
It could be a long league campaign 2017 and more than likely a short championship.

How is it a blow we have a manager that is very positive and oozing with confidence and this will rub off on the players he brings in and those he keeps from the current panel. The future is bright. The players that are not available the majority were not available for most of the year. I feel things will be good.

Don't think flanagan or keating are a huge loss. Thought Givney was starting to come good so hes a big loss. Mackey has been the game changer for us for a couple of years now so obviously a massive loss-a bit disingenuous to say otherwise

Absolutely hopefully not a repeat of his famous deluded comment guaranteeing that Mr Andrews would get us promoted when he nearly succeeded in getting us relegated!!! Anyway now is the time for the conveyor belt of talent from our u21 success to stand up & be counted. Really looking forward to seeing what progress we have made against the best teams. Best of luck to management & the squad

Not all down to the U21 success for next year. A lot of the players invited in for trials played little in the U21 titles. Shane Tierney,
Niall McKiernan, James Galligan, Enda Fitzimmons, Liam McCabe,. They should have had bigger roles, though Cavan played to a system which probaly didn't get the best out of forwards.

Galligan was let go from the Panel after the Hastings Cup in 2014.. He has been one of the top midfielders in the County

Sean o Rinn the proof of the pudding is in the results and regardless of how you dress it up or regardless of how nice a man VA was , he didn't get the results.
He was a kick of a ball from getting us into div 4.
Now that's the facts. Can't dress it up anyway.
Now I'm not disputing or degrading VAs integrity or anything else about him.
All I know is his 2nd coming should not even have happened.
And I know who pushed that appointment through. He also should have been ran when VA quit.
Now hopefully all that is behind us.
Let's get behind Mattie, he comes with great club success and enthusiasm and more importantly an open mind.. which we haven't had for a while.
Hopefully there will be no favourites guaranteed starting positions.

One thing is for sure I am not in trouble with this individual he speaks the same language as many on here and even up on the stands when things don't go there way they revel on saying I told you so. I would have backed Cavan for promotion again if I felt as I did if Val Andrews was still manager. It was my opinion that I was not trying to shove down anyones troth. I won a handy few bob with them getting promotion this year so noting lost but plenty gained. Will I back Cavan to be in Division 1 for 2018 off course I will depending on the odds depends on my stake. I am not in dream land I take it one competition at a time division 1 is priority followed with Ulster and then hopefully Croke Park. It's what most genuine supporters want at the end of the day isn't it.

At least we agree on one thing cause I'm backing Cavan to stay in div 1 aswell. However I most definitely would have to disagree with you comparing me to the experts in hindsight because I have always been Positive in my points in respect of our players & the fantastic work that Terry Hyland & his management team done over his term considering the mess he took over.

Unfortunate to lose any players.
But don't think manager should be saying later on in the year they could come back in.
Not a good singal to the players that are still ere

Disappointing losses for sure. Mackey was terrific in 2013, but was plagued by injuries since and never hit the form he showed that year. I think it's a real shame Keating never fulfilled his obvious potential. I had big hopes for him years ago, but sadly things just didn't work out. As for Givney, I reckon we're going to miss him the most. He showed glimpses of his talent down the years, but struggled to get consistency. I thought him and Gearoid were potentially Cavan's midfield for the next decade. He was simply unmarkable against Tyrone in the first game this year, caused them all sorts of problems, and could get scores in a forward line that often found it hard to deliver.

Best of luck to the lads, and hopefully we can unearth some good replacements.
