Imagine if there was a Cavan Manager all ready selected and has been watching a lot longer ???"
Or imagine if the county board bided their time and got the right man for the job rather than the first to show an interest (everyone remembers DK buying the job)!

Like I've already asked - what would any manager have learned from watching the championship? Who would he bring onto the panel who would SIGNIFICANTLY improve the team, notably would he have seen an top inter-county scoring forward who has somehow been missed by the previous management?

Ray cullivan, is one who could improve team and panel.

Ray Cullivan definitely. The other players who performed well are probably still too young and raw. The likes of James Brady and Cormac Daly. The Kerry lad may be worth a look too.

Cullivan has been on the panel under Hyland. He couldn't be player in midfield as he's too small and not mobile enough at the top level. So he played in the half-forward line. He doesn't score heavily. So that's another forward on the panel who won't score.

Yes, he may improve things, as would McCutcheon (also played under Hyland) but I don't think either are an example as to why we should have a manager in place already.

No it is vital to make the right choice rather than a quick choice. I also think someone like Damien Donohoe should be part of set up. He has done a good job with Kilinkere and has seen a lot of football in Cavan with his We Are Cavan work.

Strongly disagree with your sentiment here. Thats a very narrow view on the overall interest of the county team. nobody is suggesting that you pull a player out of the championship scene and turn them into a county player overnight! The idea is to bring in the best players (elite players) and have them training and working together with a county set up. Some won't make the grade but the idea remains that we try to promote and give everyone a chance and even more than that, aid their development with better training, better standard of training games, etc.

I posted before that I don't believe that it is fair with the club fixture debacle being the way it is and how this is effecting the game time of the likes of Tom Hayes and others. The point that I am making is that now is a time where new players could be spoken to, asked in to the set up to learn and then given a definite plan moving forward. Like I say, some make it and some wont. But your point was about who can come in and make an instant impact. Well, nobody can do that, especially in October!! That doesn't mean that we shouldn't be shortlisting potential during the business end of our club competitions.

My first reply was rejected as usual to people like you.

Yes Jim was onto me but I had to turn him down to stay with my adopted county for another few months anyway. Reason for rejecting him was I cannot stand soccer and the overpaid professional nancies.

Can Cornafean do anything in Ulster? Next year if we had the restructured championship our clubs would be better equipped to compete.

I'm not sure we're actually disagreeing at all.
I'm not saying shut the door on any player - by all means bring the lads in. I have said that whoever gets the job, they should have someone local with a knowledge of the club scene on their roster. So the manager not being in place now doesn't necessarily hamper us.

Slightly off topic, but I'm reading O'Mara's book at the minute and he stated that the difference in approach and professionalism under Terry (as outright manager) and under VA before him was night and day.
The next manager MUST be someone who brings the same level of professionalism with him and not a journeyman out for 2 years handy pay.

Val Andrews was a gentleman don't ever forget that and for many years Mr Hyland walked hand in hand with him both here in Cavan and another County. Writing a book is very easy for paper will not refuse ink. Many of us have been around a long time and I suppose could very easy put pen to paper.

I feel sorry for a new manager walking into the job shortly for if an outsider he will know nothing about the team the players the players we lost over the last four years and especially the potential players that are out there now. It's a shame for he will have a hard task for the next twelve months until he gets a chance to see potential replacements for players that are now coming to the end of their inter-county career and also that are not up to standard if he thinks so.
I hope to god if he listens to the carriers that he makes his own opinion of them if they are brought in very fast. Quality players are out there BUT do they wish to commit to the cause I don't know. Should we get any of the five that are being mentioned I hope they will get at least three years to show their worth for they will not be able to make excuses after 2018 for they will have seen the Cavan players that are not at this moment on the county panel.
I hope we get a strong willed manager and if we do I wish him very well for the future.

1. I don't know Val personally - if you say he's a gentleman, then I believe you. That has nothing to do with my point tho - O'Mara's issue was that players were ordering take-out the night before a game and that the commitment wasn't there. Terry changed that (yes, I know the players have the greater onus in this regard but a manager needs to command the players' respect).

2. Who is retiring from the current panel? I doubt Johnson will and he's our oldest player (I think). Mossy is pushing on but started intercounty late and has a year or two left.

3. I know you won't name names of potential players to bring in, but I'd have no hesitation in doing so. But if I was to sit down and draft up a 30-man training squad right now, I'd make very few changes to last year's panel.
